Hello everyone. I couldn't figure out what category I should put this in, so miscellaneous it is. I guess it's also kind of a jewelry question. One of my jewelry pieces requires me to solder a cabochon to a brass cuff blank. I just want to know if I absolutely have to use flux when soldering. What would be the result if I didn't use flux? The only reason I'm trying to not use it is because I live in the middle of nowhere and I have had extreme difficulty finding a store that would sell flux. By the way, I'm using a soldering iron, not a torch, if that makes any difference. I'm under some time constraints, please help if you can. Thanks!
I'm more used to soldering electronics and plumbing, but, here goes...
the flux's purpose is to help the solder bond to the metal, you can do it without flux, but every time I've done that, its become an experiment in how fucked up I can make the job look. an iron is more like a scalpel, whereas a torch(even the small ones) are more of a broadsword, you get a lot more finesse with heat application on smaller jobs with the iron. there's actually solder that comes with a flux core, its easy as hell to find in any hobby shop or hardware store.

as class begins, ask him if he did the homework, then ask him what he thought about it (this works in history/english classes, but in math or science, ask him if he found it hard/easy depending on the assignment) or after a test, ask him "so how do you think you did on the test?"
theres so many legitimate class topics that you can use to start the conversation.

So I'm the type of person that says "I love you" a lot. Like, my family's as dysfunctional as can be, but I always make sure to say it before I leave the house or hang up the phone. I say it to my best of friends whenever I say "bye," and whenever even an acquaintance makes me laugh or does something nice for me, I'm always like, "holy crap, I love you," and I mean it.
I met this guy in late September and we went on our first date less than two weeks after meeting. Because we talked nearly nonstop over text and IM, we were super, super comfortable with each other by the second date. We saw each other unofficially for four weeks and have been officially dating for nearly three weeks. This is my first serious relationship (I'm 16) though he's had a few girlfriends before me (he's 18).
I'm not one to overcomplicate love (obviously). You don't have to love everything about a person to love them. This guy is the sweetest-- he compliments me constantly, isn't afraid of PDA (romantic kisses goodbye, not makeout sessions), would do anything for me, and would never want to intentionally hurt me. He's not "in it to hit it" either-- he knows I'm abstaining until marriage and he's fine with that, and we didn't even kiss until the third date.
What I'm saying is, I know I love him, but is there a clear difference in the love you feel inside when loving someone as a person and loving someone romantically? He makes me happy, and I want to spend every second talking to him and just being with him. And I could not STAND to see him with another girl. But what qualifies love to be romantic rather than loving someone as a person? Have I already crossed it?
Also, how soon is "too soon" to say it? I know his family says it a lot too, and he says it to his family in front of me, so I know he's not uncomfortable saying it. But I don't want to freak him out.
Any advice whatsoever appreciated, or past experiences :) Thanks so much!
uhhh.... how about you wait a while, or better yet, let him say it first. I'm not good with this "love" word of which you speak, as I have never had any chick say it to me... so let's just go with some flawed assumptions on that sticky mess.
as for the nature of love, there is no tangible difference between romantic love and loving somebody as a person. they are the same thing, but with a different context and motive. there is, however, a difference between Loving somebody, and being infatuated with them. make sure you avoid that booby-trap...best method, again, would be to wait, see how it goes, and try letting him say it first.

its not too serious, but you should still make it a point to see a doctor as soon as possible. most likely cause: you have a hemmrhoid inside your rectum, and it popped. they're not painful...only the external ones are... but minor surgery and a rectoscopy might have to happen.

I'm sorry, but I don't think of consequences when I'm going to get laid. but then again, I'm 24, and there are no limits for me. your parents sound like they just need to get used to the idea that their little girl isn't so little anymore. do you hang out at his house often? if not, try doing that. or...just go out on a picnic hike at a state forest... thats a fun way to get the hell away from prying eyes.

My boyfriend of 10 months broke up with me last week. At first it was almost unbearable and I was a total wreck. But the second day I knew I had to talk to him, so I did. The number one reason he broke up with me is because he said that his love for me had disappeared. He was in love with me at one point, but somehow he just doesn't feel that way anymore. He just sees me as a friend. This part I understand.
BUT i don't understand what he means by me not "really acting like a girlfriend". I mean, I would try to. I kissed him in public, hugged him, told him I loved him, made him gifts, held his hand, and spent most of my time with him. I thought I was doing an okay job, but apparently he says that I'm "not capable of having a relationship". But he says that he doesn't want me to change for him. why would you? there's nothing to pay taxes on if you've never worked.

then go to www.IRS.gov, and print out a 1040EZ form. they're easy to fill out, hence the name. then it'll give you an address to mail it to. in addition, you get a slip from the company you work for that states your yearly earnings, and what's been deducted from your pay. most of the time, you get your money back if you make less than thirty K a year.

there's a skydiving crew at nearly every airport, the one up at the northampton airport is pretty good. call the skydiving company you're thinking of using and ask them. some may allow people under 18, but others might say no because of the liability issues. it doesn't just depend on state law, it also depends on their insurance coverage.

you could also move somewhere that has more dudes than girls. for example: athens, Ga has 118 girls to every 100 dudes. thats where I'm going. anchorage, alaska has a dude-heavy population, as does most of alaska. it stacks the odds in your favor. just wikipedia any town you want to see the ratio.

I want to raise money to build a school in india. Just because education is the key to unlock the potential, and it isnt really fair how some children dont get it. So i have a few questions:
1. any money raising ideas?
2. Once i have collected the money needed...what next? what are the laws? do i just pay for the building. Do i contact the government? i am really confused about it.
I think its quite possible to collect the money, its just how to go about the building and planning. Any help? thanks.

1: ACORN, SEIU, and the like, are community action groups. They advocate "spreading the wealth"(ie: socialism) to bring the masses out of poverty. They also happen to have ties to the present administration. hell, the President even spoke at an SEIU conference.
2: When on the campaign, the president was confronted by small business owners about his tax plans, to which he replied "we need to spread the wealth around"(this is a synopsis of his comment, google "joe the plumber" to find out more)
3: some of his closest advisors are known, self pronounced, and unrepentant Marx socialists. its going to take a minute for me to gather some names and links for this one... okay, look these people up: Anita Dunn, Van jones, Mark Lloyd, Ron Bloom
These people are special advisors...
so-called "czars" for their respective industry or initiative. Anita Dunn is particularly funny, quoting mao and mother theresa in the same sentence.. thats talent.
In addition: a fellow named Robert Mcchesney; head of an organization called "free press", known to seek goverment censorship of the news media ( in order to make it less biased) has been meeting with the President....
This is terrifying. in one interview, the SEIU head advocated " force them through persuasion, and then finally persuade them through force" in order to push their agenda. its one thing to deal with regular hippie-socialists, its another to take on whackos like these that send their minions out to town hall meetings in order to muscle around the average citizen.

here's your baseline: a Republic(yes, we're not a democracy), like ours is based on the principle of life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. there's nothing in that statement about failing, but you have as much freedom to fail, as you do to succeed. we are a Laissez-faire based economy.
Socialism: government controls the economy, levys taxes on those who are successful in order to boost up those who are not, and generally controls all aspects of your life.
the larger a goverment, the more it will intrude on your daily life. if it goes south, like its looking to, you'll be waking up one day, and telling your grandchildren about how great Freedom was, and how through short-sightedness, you lost it.

Hi Advicenators! I was reading the news today and saw that some guy in the U.S. army named Major Nidal Malik Hasan killed and injured his own guys from Fort Hood Army post with two pistols! I'm really shocked because I know that there are some pretty high ranks you can earn in the Army and these guys are suppose to be trained to defend us, not attack each other.
Well, how high of a rank is (or was) Maj. Nidal Malik Hasan then? Is Major higher than Lieutenant? I'm just curious how high of a rank this crazy man was and I'd really appreciate it if someone could explain the U.S. Army ranking system to me! THANKS, ADVICENATORS! :D

heres the deal with this twisted piece of shit: he was a psychiatrist, they have a different system than the rest of the Officers, they're sent through med school, get brought in as a captain most of the time, and have no command responsibilities. they get free school, but have to serve a mandatory service time(most likely five years). their rank is to compensate for the money they would be making out of the army, so obviously they start out at a higher pay grade than your run of the mill armor officer, who has to earn his rank. My initial conclusion, on hearing that there was a shooting, was that some guy from a line unit finally went bonkers after a fourth deployment and shot a few guys. this is a completely different scenario. this guy was "fighting his own jihad". had never deployed before, and like the rest of those blood scared pussies, was bitching about going to war. except he obviously had no problem with shooting people. This would never happen, NEVER, with a real officer from the line. An army major usually has been in the army for at least twelve years, commanded soldiers, and acts as the right hand man to his Squadron commander. This prick came into the army, got frocked, and went about his merry way. In their own way, The doctors are in a league of their own, they have the grade, but not the experience or responsibilities, they only do their job as a medical practitioner, and scan their medical lane.
This situation's lead-up was special, there's no way to categorize it.
