Q: Hello. I just wanted to compliment on this site. It is a great site and its helpful. I am on this site every single day for hours at a time. I am currently a level 1 moderator. I have spent so much time answering questions and rating questions on this site... that I have a question.. How long do you think it will take me to becaome a level 2 moderator? Thank you!
Thanks for your help! Right now we have 14 level II/III moderators, and I don't plan on adding any more than that. There are always some who drop out but I don't promote people based on who deserves it, I promote based on who the site needs. Stick around, I know it can be boring just being a level I but what you do here really is important.

Q: how come nothing is showing up once i click give advice, i have an account, i'm logged in and everything, and at the bottom of internet explorer it says that its done. am i the only person this is happening to?
It was a site error that started last night. It should be fine now.

Q: Why does it take so long for a question to be posted? When people give advice then wait for a question to be posted when we know its going through aproval why does that take so long. Can you speed it up just a little bit.Please.
If it hasn't been approved after three hours, it gets automatically posted. I don't think that's much of a delay at all.

Q: Is there a way to contact a fellow columnist through this site without asking them a question or logging into chat? I'm new so I apologize if this is a dumb question. Thank you for your time.

All columnists have the option of putting different contact information in their profiles (like AIM usernames and e-mail addresses) but if they chose not to do that, you're out of luck. We don't provide other means of communication because we want this to be an advice column site, not just a forum you can send notes back and forth with.

Q: Please consider adding a category called "mature"... the "adult" category name seems to imply xxx sexual topics or expertise.

Thank you.
We don't really want people posting anything that's considered "xxx"... this is not an over 18 site, it's an over 13 site, and adding a new category would just make people want to lie about their ages to see it. If anything on this site is too obscene for a 14-year old, we try to remove it.

Q: I'm just curious, if you pay for a paid account, will there be something put ON your column that tells everyone that you are a paid member aka special because you coughed up cash and helped our your favorite site in the world, advicenators?
There could be. I've thought about it before. There could also be a little icon by your name in the "columnists" list, which would really tell the truth, because technically someone could steal the little icon and put it in their profile. Basically, I'm open to suggestions.

Q: Hi, This is advice~gurl.

I was recently demoted and I am pretty sure its because I haven't been around. The truth of the reason is because my one brother that is Germany came for Christmas and I wasn't able to get to the computer because he was on all the time.
Well I am back and I'm staying. Though I have only answered one question and I know that you have to let the computer see your alive but I honestly don't have any more time at the moment so I will later.
If I can retain my L2 spot would be great but I see moop is a L2 now so maybe you have replaced me. I will live if you have and understand that I probably wasn't much help.

Thank you and I will stay with this site even if I'm not a L2 mod anymore.

We'll promote you, but first you have to be an L1 and rate some questions so you show up on the "candidate" list. Keep in mind that we want our moderators to be pretty active so they can set a good example for other columnists, so if you don't think you have time to keep your column updated, you might decide being an L2 isn't really your bag. We'll still love you and totally understand, it happens all the time.

Q: Hey,
Ok why is there an age policy where you have to be 13 or older? My younger sister is 12 and she's always wanted to give advice because her school doesn't have one. And when I found this website she was really interested in it. But then when I was signing her up it said you must be 13 or older to regester. And she wanted me to ask why. So why?
Thank you for reading this.

Q: how do i become a MOD?
http://advicenators.com/faq.php?t=11

Q: ok this thing for CHAT ROOM keeps comming up on my screen. What the hell is it doing there? And why cant i give advice without it comming up then i have to go back and do it again and keeeeep trying all over again?
That's not our site, that's something else on your computer.

Q: i banned my self for five days because i really need to study for finals rather than be on the computer. and then i relized that i have to wait alot longer to be a moderator because i am banned. do i still have to wait as long because i did ban myself?? and how long untill i can be a moderater??
It depends... if you've never been banned before, the system won't care, you can moderate just like you always did. If you have been banned before by someone else, the system is going to be all sorts of confused. let me know if this happens.

oh, and go study!

Q: Will I get banned if I put music on my column? I know you don't encourage it, but will I really get suspened/banned?
I won't ban you. I can't vouch for my other level IIs though... if it's loud and annoying enough I let them do whatever they want.

Q: How will I know if I'm using javascript or embed(or however you spell it) tags?
because you type "javascript" or "embed" somewhere.

if you're using them, the system will automatically strip them out of your column, so you can't compromise our security system, don't worry.

Q: i wanted to know why ur ratings get deleted. when i check one day it will say ive been rated 10 times but then the next day i will check it will say ive only been rated 5 times. if u click the thing at the top of the page that says: view feedback it will show like all 40 rating that i ever recieved. thanx for the help

frenchfries21
We don't like counting ratings that are more than 30 days old, we like columnists to be able to work with a "clean slate" when it comes to ratings.

Q: Can people get my password if I have music and cursors on my column? If yes how and why does music make security holes?
People can get your password if you use javascript and embed tags on your column, that's why we outlawed them. Most third party music sites require that you use those tags to play their music on your site, and our site disables those functions, so it's a little harder to play music. If you can find another way, knock yourself out. We think music is a really stupid thing to have on an advice column though, so we won't help you figure out how to get it.

Q: I think I accidentally signed up for that paypal thing on this site. I got like 2 messages saying thankyou, I don't know when or how it happened, but I can't be signed up, this is my parents computer, and I have no money to pay for any of that. Will someone please tell me what happened? I deleted the e-mails after responding to one saying whatever happened it was an accident. This is Southern_Chickety just to let you know, incase it's important. I don't know if it's for something else, but I got these to e-mails that both said thankyou for signing up for paypal. So if it's not for this site, then how I can I not be signed up for whatever it's for? Sorry it's long, but I'm so confused.
You can't really "accidently" sign up, the whole process takes like five clicks through pages and a paypal password and a lot of other things. There's no way you can sign up and promise to pay, you have to pay when you sign up, so if you have no money there's no way to get a paid account or even start the process.

Spammers send thousands of paypal fraud e-mails every day in an attempt to get people's passwords. If you just got a general "thank you for your payment" that had nothing to do with advicenators, then trust me, it had nothing to do with advicenators. Forward it to me if you're not sure.

Our "official" thank-you e-mail subject has your username and says "[yourname]: Advicenators account upgraded". People can buy paid accounts for other members, so maybe that happened for you, but either way you have nothing to worry about.

Q: why does it always say Chatspeack please type in english? thanx

Is there anything that I have to do to be able to play the music on my column? If you could help me, it would be greatly appreciated! thank you sooo much!

Q: It says in the FAQ that it isn't permitted to ask the same question to only a couple of columnists but not the whole site. I asked my question to the whole site and it was deleted by an admin before it was posted. Does this still count?
In that case, you definitely aren't allowed to go ask it to individual columnists! If we deleted it the first time, it's either not meant for this site or it really needs to be re-worded and changed to be asking something real.

Q: At the top of My Internet Explorer browser, when i am at the advicenators home page it says "[#] advice columists can't be wrong!" Is the number displayed the actual number of advicenators accounts? I'm just curious. Thanks so much!
That's the number of people who've answered five questions. We actually have a little over 10,000 registered members... we're working on a stats page that everyone can view.

This advice column is for suggestions, comments, or error reporting about advicenators. If you'd like to suggest a new category, ask me a question. If you'd like to whine, bitch, or complain about advicenators, you may whine, bitch, or complain to me.

Three rules though:
1) Do not ask me for life advice. We have several thousand other members that do that.

2) Do not ask for help, or ask how to do something, or ask about
how something on the site works, unless you've read every word of our help pages and you're sure it's not addressed there.

3) Do not ask me to ban someone or investigate abuse. We have an entire abuse system set up for that.

If you disobey one of these rules, I'll delete your question.

Some guidelines about suggestions:
If you offer a suggestion that I find interesting, I might just ignore your question so it stays in my inbox as a reminder of something to do. Don't be upset that I don't answer you, and don't delete your questions (because then I'll forget!)

If you have three suggestions, please ask three separate questions, that way I can address each one individually. It's a real pain when people ask one question with like twenty different topics in it; I can't keep them straight.
