advice

Thank you so much. I have taught my daughter to knit and she really loves it. The probelm is not when she is awake and alert it is when she is asleep and does not even realise she has done it until she wakes up the next morning, and finds the hair in her bed. Is there anything else I can do for her apart from taking her to all the doctors under the sun. I support her as much as I can and she does not need mental health doctors to tell me what is going on with her. I know my daughter and think that they would just add problems not solve them. Is there anything else that I can do for her?

I used to wear night-time mittens so that I wouldn't be able to pull out my hair. the down-side to that is that I may have kicked the hair habit, but I started having jaw problems that escalated to the point where I couldn't open my mouth completely for 2 months straight. if you do go to putting her hands in mittens at night, make sure you watch her extremely carefully to make sure that she doesn't pick up another bad habit. every type of therapy you try on her needs to be watched carefully lest she just substitute habits in that way.

my mom gave me bubble baths once a week before bedtime. she also had me drink teas in bed. I probably would have enjoyed aromatherapy candles in my room as well (but I bunked with my brother who would not have enjoyed them). what finally got me to stop pulling in the night (which I only did for a short time) was listening to the smashing pumpkins. very odd looking back. it used to calm me down completely to hear billy corgan yelling and screaming about his bad love life. I guess I've always been a little bit punk on the inside. heh. you just have to experiment around every day and see what works and what doesn't.

if you need really really fast help from me about anything, my email address is petite.phoque@gmail.com. my quick-response today is a total fluke, but emails are attached to annoying little sounds that I can hear anywhere inside my house if I'm home.

Hi everyone. I've heard this one song like a million times and I know almost every word to it, but I've never been able to figure out the artist.

Anyways the songs goes like this:

Love of mine, someday you will die
But I'll be close behind and I'll follow you into the dark
No blinding light or tunnels to gates of white
Just out hand clasped to tight, waiting for the hint to spark

But if heaven and hell decide that they both are satisfied
And illuminate the NOs on their vacancy signs

that should be enough to tell the name of the group that sings it, thanks. [=

it's called Next Time by Just Fucking Google It.

Can anyone please tell me a bit about this disease. My ten year old daughter has just been diagnosed with it. She also has nocturnal epilepsy. Is there anything that I can do to help her?

as someone who kicked trich myself, I can say that there's not much parents can do. research all that you can and explain it to your daughter. don't automatically assume that she's not well-adjusted. never hint that she's any different from anyone else just because she pulls. no matter what any doctors say, do not take her to a psychiatrist. my parents did this to me at 8 when I was diagnosed which only caused me more stress. I was told by school-mates that I had to go talk to him because I was crazy. and I firmly believed I was crazy up until a short time ago when my mom told me it was for trich related to a traumatic incident that happened to one of my cousins that I had witnessed, but have since blocked out. if you absolutely have to have her see someone see if you can bring that person in as just another of your friends, but she really needs your support more than anything.

make her feel important. take her to get her fingernails done and her hair done (depending on how much there is left). you can get her into activities that help to minimize stress. acting classes (where she can be someone else who doesn't have problems), yoga, even knitting and sewing can all be beneficial. I started out in therapy which made my problem worse, then shifted to stress eating, and finally knitting and acting. when I'm acting I don't notice that I have to go through OCD-like rituals to feel better. when I'm knitting I can just sit and think about everything while my hands are busy moving. almost like yoga.

9 years from when I was diagnosed, I am a perfectly fine person and I am here to help you as much as I can. drop me any other questions in my inbox.

ok i have a white 2 piece bathing suit and it has little colorful hearts on it.
Well I wash it reguarly but it isnt as white anymore and turning creamish yellowish... it
says i can bleach it with a non clorine bleach but im not sure i want to use it.(hard on the fabric. Is there any other kind of house hold substance that could make it look like new
white again?
thank you

bathing suits are made out of a spandex/polyester blend in a 4-way stretch, usually. bleach only deteriorates natural fibers like wool and cotton. it should do no harm to your bathing suit to use bleach. make sure you get color-safe bleach. you'll be fine.

so my sevens like all fit me before i leave the house but then during the day they expand like crazy and by the end of it they're all like baggy in the back. ive already washed them in hot water and dried them and it helped but is there any other ways of shrinking them?

cotton jeans naturally expand and stretch throughout the day. typically, the darker the denim the less they will stretch out. when you buy jeans, try them on and make sure they're really tight if you want them tight. but generally, tight jeans look varying degrees of trashy on everyone.

hey i am on a diet and have been doing fine but im very big on dessert. i cut down my normal ice cream at night and insteas of all those calories have something lighter. but now im ready to cut down dessert altogether. any tips? its very difficult as i am used to having something sweet before bed. help if you can thank youu.

uh... don't do the celery/asparagus thing. you won't get full. you'll snack eat on junk food in the long run. you need full meals and enough calories to maintain activity.

as for dessert. I am also trying to cut back on desserts. I eat a lot of real fruit bars and frozen v8 splash. tonight I made vegan blueberry muffins out of whole wheat flour and farmer's market blueberries. it's also helpful to eat sweets earlier in the day if you can't cut them back. eating before bed is probably not a good idea. some things cause crazy weird dreams and it's hard to burn calories when you're inactive.

i burn my face realy bad like i cooked off 4 layers of skin out of 7 it kills and i put stuff on it to make it better but it makes it hurt worce my skin is realy gross so i was wondering will it get back to normal befor school and thats in a little over a month. is there anyway to make it heal faster because im always crying because it hurts soOOooOOO bad

solarcaine is probably not good for use on your face. it comes in a spray that you really don't want in your eyes or 2 to 3 inches away from your eyes. instead, buy a lotion with lidocaine or (best of all) an aloe vera lotion. oatmeal soaked in water (or aveeno lotion) is also a good, natural, plan. it will speed up healing. aloe will relieve pain. alternate using them beginning with aloe.

is there a thing you can hook up into your at home stereo to play your ipod? if so, where do you find it, and how much are they?

if your family owns anything with unattached speakers, you already have the connection you need. it's a cord with a headphone jack on one end that splits into two speaker plugs (one yellow, one black, probably) on the other. old record players usually have that sort of set-up from the actual record player to the stereo speakers. just ask your parents if it's okay to take it. sure, it's not as "cool" as having a $50 white cable from Apple, but it works just as well and you can spend the $50 on shoes or something.

I have two former friends who (in my opinion) seriously abuse their cat. "Tammy" will grab the cat by the back legs and spin it around, set it on the floor and flip it in circles, chase it around the house, pull it by its tail when it tries to get away, etc. She's 21, so she's not a kid at all. With her boyfriend, they will put the cat in a pillowcase a breathe lungfulls of marijuana smoke in on it. When they have parties, they will "pass the cat." Everyone in at the party will take the joint and the bagged cat, and on every exhale breathe their smoke into the cat's bag. This will go on for an hour or two before they free the cat. This is just what they do in front of other people.

I can only see where I have there options here, each with problems.
1) Call the police.
2) Break into their house and steal the cat.
3) Do nothing.

I don't want to call the police, because I smoke weed and so do a lot of my friends. Used to, if you got caught in my town you just went to jail. Now you reduce your sentence with every fellow pot head you turn in, all the way up to having no arrest record if you turn in enough people.

I don't want to break in just because...well...it's wrong, I guess. And I really want to do something to help the cat. I've already tried talking to them about it, and it doesn't help.

I would really appreciate any other suggestions, or help picking which option is right. Thanks!

nearly every local police department has an anonymous hotline that you can call. if you're still freaked out about the marijauna allegations stop using for a month and then call or convince a non-user to call. a month will allow the marijauna to get out of your system and become untraceable by the police. animal control, a local branch of the ASPCA (www.aspca.org), local shelters, etc. will all jump with your anonymous phone call.

My 11 year old brother confided in me that he likes to look at naked men. ohhh boy--that is just something that I'd rather not know! but he feels comfortable talking to me about it (i don't though..lol) he will not tell my parents. he is DEEPLY religious. and he knows the catholics frown upon gays. but yeah, he tells me that he likes flipping through magazines and ENJOYS looking at naked men...this creeps me out a little. he was freaking out last night asking me what i thought--and i told him that he's not gay (idk if he is though..but i just said that to make him feel better or else he would have a SPAZ if i told him i thought he was. like i said, he is DEEPLY religious.) --and i also told him that maybe he was just curious..idkkk he doesn't know. but i feel VERY uncomfortable talking to him about thsi but there's no one else he can talk to. he asks me stuff about sex too and i don't know how to answer him. can anyone help me? thannnnnnks :)

okay. your brother is eleven. he has time to learn who he is. he may be gay, he may not. you don't really know at eleven. some people don't even know until much later as adults. it's completely normal and healthy that he's questioning himself and nearly all modern adoloscents go through this awkward period. as for the questions, explain to him that you're uncomfortable answering some of his questions. state explicitly which types you are uncomfortable with. stress to him that he can ask you some questions, but that he needs to find someone else to ask the sex questions. and above all, tell him that he is completely normal.

i have really been wondering how people do that, change clothing in under 5 seconds...for example on america's got talent, there was this couple and that's what they did. does anyone know how people are able to do that?

as a costumer, I can tell you that quick changes are nothing special. for theater shows, where time moves faster than in real life, quick changes are employed all the time. well-placed velcro under buttons or on the sides of clothes and custom-made elastic clothing. it's not that exciting.

I'm getting my wisdom teeth taken out next week, and I am kind of scared, even though I'll be put to sleep. I guess the thought of people ripping out 4 of my teeth freaks me out.

Does anyone have any tips on getting through it, or getting through the soarness afterward? Thanks.

before you have it done when you're just talking to the doctors and nurses, be as at-ease as possible. if you're nervous the doctor or dentist will try to stop you from being nervous and explain in great detail what's happening which could be worse. so smile and make jokes about the crappy decor and show as little fear as possible. the doctor will become at ease with you which will help you out.

as for getting through the soreness, don't try solid foods for a week or so. if you really really need them then go for it, but mush them up as much as possible. you'll be scared to chew on your side teeth for fear of getting something stuck in the holes so you'll automatically chew with your front teeth which will make ALL of your teeth ache. they're not meant for that. you might also request a water syringe (without a needle) from the surgeon before you go under. it's a LOT better than swishing with salt water. you just fill it with warm water and squirt it into the holes. you can't get out of salt water, but you can cut back on it if you use a water syringe. also, it's a lot harder to get infections if you temporarily abstain from meat and dairy and eggs until the stitches wiggle themselves out. this also cuts down on infection if you skip a salt rinse once in a while.

edit: alternate pain medications. don't take vicodin all the time. you can alternate it with another strong pain med they give you (lodiene, I think I was given) or ibuprofen (only during the day because it won't take away all of the pain enough to sleep). if you rely on vicodin completely you'll fuck up your sleep schedule and could become dependant on it. I tended to use lodiene if I was going to be awake and vicodin asleep. I'd often sleep 12+ hours on vicodin or wake up woozy and fainty. never take vicodin without eating first (or drinking something heavy like milk though I don't endorse drinking milk) and never shower if you took vicodin less than 14 hours before. I once took vicodin because I was in intense pain and ended up sleeping from 3 PM to about 8 AM the next day waking up once in the middle only to take more vicodin. I had to meet some people for an english project, but ended up fainting in the shower and nearly vomitting because I didn't eat with my vicodin. just don't take it twice in a row. if you can, try and avoid it altogether.

what do i do my dogs are attatched to human table food they won't touch dog food so i have to make them breakfast lunch and dinner. tell me how i can get them to eat dog food. please........ thank you

you might want to try feeding them a vegan or vegetarian diet. some dogs are naturally disposed to this type of diet and will refuse animal products. check out vegancats.com for foods you can try and feed your dog (it's not just a cat site). gradually you can mix regular dog food into the vegan dog food if you are concerned about the price of vegan dog food.

ok.i broke my finger.long story how but any way.i got a splint or brace on it and i cant take it of except when i take a shower and that is every single day.well when i take it off the splint it smells like dirty shoes.i washed my hands over and over and the smell goes away but as soon as i put my finger back in the splint it smells again.i tried washing the brace but that does not work.i was wondering if there r any ways 2 get the smell gone.
thanxxxs

in addition to spraying the splint with something (I suggest woolite or a product made for fabric scents, not humans) you also need to keep it off when you get out of the shower for about a half-hour (and don't use your hand) to wait for your finger to completely dry. the smell is possibly a sign of slight molding because of trapped water. the same thing happened to me two years ago when I had a broken finger.

ok so i have a passion for dancing. i loveee it. i love to be on stage. i love to perform. i've done sports all of my life and i'm about to be a senior and i've never taken a jazz/ballet class. i regret it a lot. i know if i had started dance earlier i could have gone so much further than where i went with sports. i feel so sad ..... like i wasted talent and spent time on things that took me no where.

i started taking hiphop classes....bc that requires no previous dance knowledge....just a little rythym........and a week later they made me a teacher at the studio.

i want to go far and try out for companies and go somewhere.i know i have the stage presence to do it. but every audition, application, or place wants jazz and ballet knowledge. i want to learn jazz and ballet fast and cheap but all of the classes are for 5 year olds and it takes years to learn all i need to know.

does anyone have any advice?!?!?! am i too late!

and if i did learn jazz and ballet where do i go from there?

how do i get noticed?!?! where do i start!?!

if you're a senior in high school, see if you can take jazz/ballet classes at a local college. you'll be the youngest in your class (but probably not the least experienced). you'll probably even meet some cool, new people. and you're sure to get the type of experience you want WITH the added bonus of college credits once you get there. if you're not a senior in high school then I'm really sorry, but I have a great feeling that you are.

okay i love the way flats look but they always cut the backs of my ankles, does anyone know how i can get them to stop doing that without socks cause i like to wear them with like capris and skirts and stuff and socks wont look right and nylons are a pain the the butt and if i put in the backing things then my foot feels squished. should I just use band aids? thanks in advamce.

16/f

they're either not broken in yet or just low-quality. if they're not broken in yet then wear them around the house for 3 days with wool socks on. they'll stretch out accordingly. if they're made of canvas you can also soak them (and your feet) in water then walk around outside until they dry. they'll be molded to your feet.

I'm going school shopping soon... I'm 16, 5'0 and I'm a size 7/8... what are some cool jeans that fit good? i usually get stretch skinny flare from AE but they have like new stuff out and i don't know how they are so ... is gap or anything better? i hatee shopping for jeans it's so stressful everythings either too big or too small or tight in one place and huge in the other ..

as a taller average girl I buy all of my jeans at either old navy or the gap. the gap tends to have better fit because all of their jeans are customized into several different fits. they also take the time to figure out which would work for you the best. my mom, who is a completely different body shape from mine, always finds jeans at the gap that fit her perfectly (as well as at some other stores). old navy uses the same fits as the gap (as does banana republic, but they're more expensive). their fabric tends to give less. I'm not a huge fan, but I'll purchase a pair of jeans there occasionally.

one thing to keep in mind with shopping at the gap is that their sizes run smaller than other stores. at some stores I am tight in a 10, but at the gap I can almost fit a 4. so do make sure you get advice from a sales clerk on which pair is the best fit for your body shape and size.
