Question Posted Monday August 7 2006, 10:13 pm

Thank you so much. I have taught my daughter to knit and she really loves it. The probelm is not when she is awake and alert it is when she is asleep and does not even realise she has done it until she wakes up the next morning, and finds the hair in her bed. Is there anything else I can do for her apart from taking her to all the doctors under the sun. I support her as much as I can and she does not need mental health doctors to tell me what is going on with her. I know my daughter and think that they would just add problems not solve them. Is there anything else that I can do for her?

I used to wear night-time mittens so that I wouldn't be able to pull out my hair. the down-side to that is that I may have kicked the hair habit, but I started having jaw problems that escalated to the point where I couldn't open my mouth completely for 2 months straight. if you do go to putting her hands in mittens at night, make sure you watch her extremely carefully to make sure that she doesn't pick up another bad habit. every type of therapy you try on her needs to be watched carefully lest she just substitute habits in that way.

my mom gave me bubble baths once a week before bedtime. she also had me drink teas in bed. I probably would have enjoyed aromatherapy candles in my room as well (but I bunked with my brother who would not have enjoyed them). what finally got me to stop pulling in the night (which I only did for a short time) was listening to the smashing pumpkins. very odd looking back. it used to calm me down completely to hear billy corgan yelling and screaming about his bad love life. I guess I've always been a little bit punk on the inside. heh. you just have to experiment around every day and see what works and what doesn't.

if you need really really fast help from me about anything, my email address is petite.phoque@gmail.com. my quick-response today is a total fluke, but emails are attached to annoying little sounds that I can hear anywhere inside my house if I'm home.
