I am a final year med student and have decided to use part of what free time is available to me to offer advice to anyone who feels they have a genuine problem. Please DO NOT waste my precious time by putting forward questions which you KNOW to be NOT genuine. If I feel this is what you have done I will not answer them.
Owing to the nature of my work, my time on here is limited, although I may show as on line. Please feel free to ask me a question, however, I apologise if my answer is not immediate, but rest assured, it will be a genuine one.

people say running is a way to lose wieght but can i just walk instead? if not, why cant i? (link)
|
Any form of excercise which stimulates your cardiovascular system,ie, your heart and lung's , sustained over a regular period, will enable you to lose weight. This includes walking, PROVIDED it is brisk and causes your heart to pump a little faster.
If you are unused to excercise build your time up gradually week by week, particularly if you know you are overweight.

How do you get rid of hemroids? im 13 and i just went to the doctor and she says i have a small one. do they ever go away? do guys care if u have them? thanks (link)
|
Haemorroides are not common in a person of your age. Are you overweight and/or suffer from constipation?
They are easily treatable by various methods, however, if you genuinely suffer from them, the least of your problems would be what "guy's" think about them. You are far too young.
However, if you are foolish enough to dabble with sex at your age, then YES. They would be silly enough to care about them.

14/f. I've read on the internet the signs of having depression. I fit many of them. Though I do not ALWAYS feel depressed and hopeless, it comes often. Certain things in my life have caused me pain, and then there's other times where I just feel horribly down, yet I can't point it to any certain cause at all. I don't feel close enough to either of my parents or anybody..come to think of it that I could tell about me having this problem. Yet, I do think that me getting help is a good idea, because I've become very close to doing something drastic more than once. Is there reason to suspect that I really do have a depression problem, or is it just teenage hormones? Is there a way for me to get help? (link)

Hello,
I'm sorry you are feeling this way. Certainly at your age your hormones may be causing your mood swing's. Ok one moment, down the next etc, but, if you have had occassion's where you feel like self harming you MUST tell your Doctor, if not your parents.
Many young people of your age feel they are drifting away from their parent's, this is natural and has to do with you becomming more independant, maturing into an adult. I really do think you should tell your mother just how you feel, you may be suprised at her response. I'm sure she would feel she has let you down if you bottle this up , she would want to know. It's also a way in which you can show her that you do value her.
Adolesence can be a very emotional time, you are moving away from your childhood which many youngsters of your age feel they want to hang on to, rather than face growing up, others are in too much of a hurry to get there. We are all different. If you are aware of any particular thing that is causing you concern, no matter how small or silly you think it may be, talk about it.
This really is the best advice I can offer you right now.
So, take a deep breath and go and confide in your mother.
Good luck....

why does my vagina itch. hmmm. i dont do anythin nastry with myself but i read this thing and she did nasty stuff and and had problems with that... but i dont do that. my vagina itches and i dont like it!! PLEASE HELP. thanks (link)
|
It could be one of many reasons. Thrush sounds likely in which case you may also be seeing a white discharge, although not necessarily.
Do you use vaginal deodorants? They are notorious for causing irritation. Either way, you really ought to seek the advice of your General Practioner.

My fiancee wants to have sex, and the bad thing is, IM SCARED OF SEX. I am almost positive my hymen is intact, because I don't masturbate, im a virgin, and I detest tampons. Any suggestions?? And since I know were getting married in August, don't tell me to wait, because he's talking about sex on our wedding night, and since I've already told him Im scared, he still wants it, wich I don't blame him, were both virgins, we both dont have diseases of any kind, and after all, IT IS OUR WEDDING NIGHT, so its not furnication (since were both Christians) so please help me, because I'm scared of the blood and the pain. Btw, is it true that when you pee after sex it hurts? My mother said it hurts the first couple times you have sex, and that you bleed, and it hurts, and it burns when you pee for weeks. Is any of this true? Plz help me. (link)
|
I'm sorry you are feeling so anxious about sexual intercourse. Not all females feel pain at all during their first experience, this is something that is all too often over exagerated. Occasionally the hymen may be thicker that it ought to be in which case all that you would feel would be a slight sharp twinge for a moment, nothing more.
As for bleeding, expect to see an odd spot or two, again, this has been over exagerated.
Passing urine following sex should NOT cause pain.
During sexual pleasure your vulva becomes swollen and if you feel the need to pee immediately following sex, you may find it slighter harder to begin the flow and no more than that.
So, please try to put your mind at ease and look forward to your wedding day.
I wish you both all the luck in the world.

i didn't know what category to use but when i get my braces off i wanna make sure that my teeth are white..some say if you brush your teeth with baking soda it really helps but im scared that my teeth will be like glowing white and i dont want that to look retarded. i just want a nice shade of white..and is it safe to brush with baking soda? (link)
|
Mix baking soda with hydrogen peroxide 6% strengh,(available form pharmacies)to a smooth paste. You may add toothpaste if you wish, do NOT swallow the mix. Leave on for two minutes then rinse thoroughly.
I do not advise you to use this treatment more than once a week.
The next time you have a dental checkup, inform your dentist what you have been doing.

hi, this has been bugging me for ages. when i was 13 i got the chicken pox. i went to the hospital and was seen by a male doctor. he asked me to take my top off to have a better look at my spots. i had them on my arms and body. then he told me to take my cami-top off too so i'd be naked down to my waist. i cried but he insisted it had to be done. so i did and he touched my breasts...all this was to confirm i had chicken pox. thats not normal is it? (link)
|
I can see no reason for a breast examination to confirm a diagnosis of chicken pox.
You must tell your mother for the simple reason it was obviously an upsetting experience for you and it's obviously been worrying you for far too long.
However, it should have been reported at the time, although you would have found it very difficult to prove. It would have been your word against his, but DO report it. You may well not be alone in this, if he is guilty of professional misconduct my guess is he will have or maybe still is behaving in this way with others. If further complaints are received from other patients, the powers that be will have no choice but to investigate.
Hope you find this helpful.

um like i'm to embaressed to buy k.y warming gel or w/e but what else could i use to lube up my fingers like would vasaline be okay or what? URGENT lol (link)

If you are unable to become naturally moist, you are also obviously not ready for sexual intercourse. I think you should seriously consider your "relationship" here.

how can i lose the fat in my thighs? please dont say oh as long as your healthy then you dont need to lose the weight or get lipo suchtion
ps im 14/f (link)
|
Hello,
First of all, as you are only 14 you are quite likely to lose excess fat around your thighs as you are still growing. However, in the mean time, excercise ic the best way forward, provided to stay with it. Ten to fifteen minutes a day really isn't very much, and well worth the end results.
Lay flat on the floor on your right side, raise your left leg as far as you can comfortably manage, hold for a count of ten. Aim for fifteen of these to begin with, gradually building up. Repeat on your left side.
Alternatively, buy a stepper.

Gosh.. I'm 600 pounds! I can't even sit in a chair, or walk in my room without getting bruces on my waste! Since I was a young lady I became like this. Once, I broke a ride at Coney Island, it was a Kiddy Ride and I wanted ever so much to go on with my dearest cuz! Tell me how I can.. sit on chairs, ride the rides, and walk through doors! My nurtricious is going DOOWWWWNN! HELPP!.. OH HELP!!
Much Loveness- Doris (link)
|
At that weight it's highly unlikely you would be able to get out of bed, much less walk through a door or sit in a chair!!
Why dont you try being truthful and stop wasting our time.
I wouldn't normally bother to answer a question such as your's because quite frankly, I do not believe you. You are mocking those people who genuinely are morbidly obese.
|
I am 5'8" and I weigh like 165 pounds.. is that too much?.. i have bigger legs but i dont look fat.. most people say i look really skinny actually. but i want to know if theyre just saying it to be nice and if i really am putting myself at risk for like heart disease or anything. (link)
|
Hello,
You are probably what we consider to be borderline weight for your height.
What age are you?
My advice to you would be to try to shed five or six pounds, gradually over a period of time, NOT by crash dieting.
You are very sensible to be concerned about heart disease, it goes without saying that eating a low fat diet which incorporates fresh fruit and vegetables as often as possible will go a long way to guard against this.
Be confident about the way you look, you are NOT grossly overweight by any means.

im 14/f...i feel like i sleep a LOT! like here's an average day: wake up around 10...take a nap from like 1 to 3 30...then get up and do whatever...then take another nap from like 5 to 6 30...then stay up until like 1 in the morning and go to bed and do it all over again the next day...is this normal or is there something wrong??? (link)
|
What is your mood like during the times you are awake?
Do you feel life is great, or is everything uninteresting to you?
There are very many reasons why you may be sleeping so much, ranging from something simple such as a disrupted sleep pattern,ie, you go to bed at 1.00am, try going at 11.00 on as regular a basis as you are able to manage, and cutting out one of your day time naps, to more complex and serious reasons why you may be tired.
If changing your sleep pattern doesn't work, I strongly advise a visit to your Doctor.
It could also be your body adjusting to the changes you are going through right now, hormones etc.

How is it that somedays I think I'm fat and then other days I look skinny?
I rate HIGH! (link)
|
You are possibly gaining extra weight a few days before your period is due owing to water retention.(I'm assuming you ARE female).
People also are slightly heavier at the end of the day than when they get up first thing in the morning, which is why that is the time of day you should weigh yourself

ok well what is the urethra? i kno its on a guy i think, but where and what is it exactly? (link)
|
The urethra is the tube which is connected to your bladder and allows you to pass urine in both males and females.
Obviously in a male it runs down through the shaft of the penis.
|
Okay I’m 15 and I weigh 110 and I’m 5’6 is that to skinny? I don’t think it is but some people say that is and I wanna gain some pounds. And I want it to show I just maybe wanna get to like 120 at least. If anyone knows any good ways of gaining some pounds please let me know what they are. Also will you tell me from the information I gave you up top does that sound like I’m skinny or is it fine? Thank you so much!!
*K (link)
|
Stop worrying, you are slim, NOT skinny. If you are happy with the way you look it doesn't matter what other peoples opions may be. If you receive any further comments I would just say,"really, sorry you have a problem with the way I look,I'm quite comfortable with it,thank you".
Your'e also still growing and in all probablity will gain a few extra pounds quite naturally.
|
i generally have my period every 27 days for about eight days. last time i only had it for 6 days and its been over 30 days and im still not getting it! what should i do? (im fourteen) (link)
|
First of all stop worrying. At your age your hormones have not settled down and it's perfectly natural for your periods to be slightly eratic.
The lengh of time you menstruate for varies , anything between three to seven day's is perfectly normal, provided the bleeding is not excessively heavy, at your age it certainly shouldn't be.
Hope this put's your mind at rest.
