You need a deficit to lose weight. 1 lb is 3500 calories so to lose 1lb a week you need a deficit of 3,500 calories a week. I would start cleaning up your diet, and doing a combination of lifting weights & cardio. Cardio will burn fat, lifting weights will build your muscle/lean body mass (if you are female, don't worry, you WILL NOT get "jacked") we don't have the testosterone to do so. Having a higher amount of lean body mass/muscle will allow you to burn more calories at REST. So, cardio and weights are important! I recommend www.myfitnesspal.com to track your food and exercise intake.

In my own personal experience, small things help. Find reasons to walk more. If you're going somewhere close enough to walk, do it. If you drive to stores, park further away. Make sure to do things you enjoy while exercising. It'll help you develop a good routine. If you like wilderness, walk in the park or go hiking. Try listening to music while you exercise, etc.
As for food, there are two important things to consider: The addition of more green vegetables and the subtraction of things like Soda. Green vegetables are exceptionally healthy and are great for toning up. Pop is possibly the worst thing for you and should be avoided at all cost if you plan on losing weight.
Xui answered Wednesday December 25 2013, 8:39 pm: I have lost 143 lbs and I will give you some tips on how I did it.
Cutting out fried, fatty or any foods that contained "Added" sugars.
Example:
Graham Crackers
Fat (10g)
Sugar (23g)
Ingrediants: Brown sugar, Corn Syrup, Eggs etc. << (Contains ADDED sugar) I would avoid this product.
Example:
Powerade Zero
Fat ( 0g)
Sugar (5g)
Ingrediants: Water
(Contains just water and no ADDED sugar) Sure, I'd give it a go.
I also watched the sodium as it can raise blood sugar levels. I avoided pasta and rice as it expands the stomach as it is a good that "blows" up while it cooks and expands.
Exercise, It's extremely important and plays a big role on the weight loss. Jogging or running is one of the best exercises recommended for weight loss also.
I also took up seeing a nutritionist, This helped tremendously. I dropped the sugar drinks and switched it too Powerade Zero or water only. I do not order take out, fried or greasy foods. I eat more fruits and vegetables and I use smaller plates.
