Hi all,
I've been working out consistently for a month now and would now like to incorporate more weight lifting into my routine, rather than just cardio.
As a beginner, I feel that using the weight machines would be a better start in terms of doing the right movement and so on. A more controlled situation, should I say.
However, I'm not really sure what my "plan" should be or how to make one.
My gym does offer fitness consultants but they are very pricy and I can't afford to make a fitness plan with one right now.
So I was wondering if anyone with weight lifting experience would be kind enough to tell me the kind of sets/reps I should have and what order I might want to do things in. I'm looking for an overall tone-up of my body whilst I'm losing weight and of course gaining strength.
My gym offers machines for any kind of muscle work out so there's no problem there.
Right now, on a bicep curl machine I can lift 20kgs 10 times until I feel totally exhausted if that's of any use.
Overall, I would majorly appreciate any input as to how to get this weight training thing going and the kind of routine I should have :)

If you are a beginner, starting on the machines is a smart move, as you said, it will help you with controlling the movement and learning. Instead of doing a set amount of reps, lift until your muscles get tired. The last 3 reps in your set should be difficult. If you can do more than 15 reps, increase your weight. Do 3-4 sets of the exercise, completing as many reps as you can until fatigue and increasing weight when you reach 15 reps. Lifting until fatigue will help increase your strength.
Since you are starting out, you could lift 3-4 days a week doing an upper body (arms, shoulders, back, chest) and lower body (legs, butt, calves) split. Just make sure you hit every body part. If you want to do abs, you can do them as much as every other day.
Cardio will burn fat while you are doing cardio, lifting weights will build lean body mass & muscle which will 1. make you stronger and 2. help you to burn more calories while at REST.
Once you become comfortable with the machines, move to the dumbbells. They are great for forcing you to control the movements.
Make sure no matter what equipment you are using that you are using proper form. Have good posture and stop if your posture gets messed up or if you start to swing your body to finish a rep. This will hinder your progress and be potentially dangerous to your body. If you start using a weight that is heavy for you, don't be afraid to ask someone to help & spot you!

I'm 16 and obese. I've been trying but the pounds just won't drop.
Clean up your diet - make sure you are eating whole grains, veggies, fruit, lean proteins (chicken, egg whites, beans, ground turkey, etc), drink a LOT of water, start doing some cardio & weight lifting.

So right now i weigh 75kg and i dont eat healthy foods or do any sports.I want to lose 15kg,and i looked in different sites and everywhere it says a different thing,i was thinking of buying a treadmill,will running on a treadmill help me lose weight,also im willing to stop eating,or just skip one meal if it will help,but i read that it wont,so please help me if you know some routine or something,i really need to lose this weight till august comes
Download the app/visit www.myfitnesspal.com it will allow you to log your food intake, exercise, and progress. DO NOT stop eating that will only stop your metabolism and is very dangerous.
Think of it as getting healthy, not just losing weight. Start cleaning up your meals. Eat whole grains, veggies, fruits, lean proteins (if you eat meat), beans, etc...all those are healthy foods. Drink a lot of water throughout the day. At least 8 glasses! That is IMPORTANT. A lot of times our bodies mistake dehydration for hunger. Make sure you eat breakfast within 30min of waking up. This will start your metabolism, the longer you wait, the longer it will take to start/the longer it will take your body to start burning calories.
As for exercise, cardio will help you burn fat. You should also incorporate weight lifting because that will build muscle (if you are female you won't get "jacked" so don't worry) Building muscle will increase your lean body mass. The higher your lean body mass, the more calories you will burn at REST. This is super important. Cardio will burn calories while your doing cardio, but weight lifting will help you continue to burn calories even AFTER you're finished.

It's all about calories consumed < calories burnt. You need a deficit to lose weight. 1 lb is 3500 calories so to lose 1lb a week you need a deficit of 3,500 calories a week. I would start cleaning up your diet, and doing a combination of lifting weights & cardio. Cardio will burn fat, lifting weights will build your muscle/lean body mass (if you are female, don't worry, you WILL NOT get "jacked") we don't have the testosterone to do so. Having a higher amount of lean body mass/muscle will allow you to burn more calories at REST. So, cardio and weights are important! I recommend www.myfitnesspal.com to track your food and exercise intake.
Eat clean, lift weights, do cardio, and drink a lot of water throughout the day :)

I've been using the MFP app for about a month now and it is really helping me with my diet. However, none of my close friends use the app and it looks a bit bare sometimes.
I was wondering if there are Advicenators here who use the app and would like a (somewhat) anonymous friend on their feed. I'm eating clean these days and working out!

Oh please don't do that!!! I know it is really hard right now for you, but it WILL get better. Break-ups are extremely tough, especially when you lose someone you care about, but that is no reason to lose your life over. There is a certain someone out there for everyone. If it's this girl, then it will work out in the future. If it's not this girl, you WILL find someone else that is even more perfect for you. If you take your life because of this, you will be hurting your family, friends, and this ex-girlfriend. It's not worth it. Things after a break up do get better, maybe try talking to her in a calm & collected way, to see why the break-up occurred. If she doesn't want to talk, distract yourself by doing things you enjoy, hang out with friends, play sports/videogames/read; whatever you do for fun. Surround yourself with people who make you happy besides the girl. It will help! It will get better and if it's meant to be it will, if not, you'll find another girl who is fits you better. It may not be right away, but you will find that special someone down the road, just be patient. I'm 22 and still haven't found that someone, but I know he's out there somewhere! Don't give up hope.

Oh my gosh no!! You shouldn't even be thinking about marriage at your age!! You need to go have fun with friends. You're wayyy too young, you have your whole life ahead of you to be with someone the rest of your life. Trust me, I'm in my 20's and some of my friends are just getting married now. I can't even imagine getting married at my age and i'm about 10 years older than you! You have so much to look forward to in your life that you shouldn't even be worrying about now (college, a career, etc) at your age you should be having fun and being a kid!! trust me, when you look back you're going to miss those days so much. enjoy being a kid as much as you can!!!!!!

Ok so I'm 17 years old and my boyfriend is about to be 20 years old. We always talk about how we can't wait to finally live together and start our own live together. Now the only problem I have is that I want to have a baby already. How should I tell him that I want to have a baby? He loves children and we have both talked about how we would like to have a large family together. I know that a baby is alot of work, but I feel that we are ready for it. Please help!
you two are still super young. you may talk about living together and all, but a lot of couples do for fun. babies make everything complicated and it takes a lot of money to raise them. you won't have time to go out with friends and enjoy yourself as a young adult. teens and 20s are your years to enjoy life and with a baby that's going to be nearly impossible. having a baby my also cause problems with your relationship (believe it or not) when you're pregnant everything will be fine but once you have the baby he may back out and then you're left alone. and honestly not many people want to date someone who already has a child at that age since it's so much responsibility. make sure you really think about this because you will grow into an adult so much faster than you may be ready for. it'll change your life.

Don't do it. This boy may like you, but he sure as hell isn't going about it the right way. Don't send a picture of yourself that way, because it could easily be spread around and you don't want that. If he likes you then he will go out with you for that sole reason. me and my boyfriend want to do things but we can't because our parents our always home. the only time we did fool around was at my house but it was like 3 in the morning and they were sleeping...i was nervous the whole time though cause i felt like they were gonna catch us. were both 17 so we can't get a hotel. and a car isn't really the best place cause like where would we park it? itd be sketchy...so does anyone know any places we can go? or anything we can do about that whole parent situation?
I mean at night when your parents are sleeping is typically a good time. You just can't be too loud, but if you're in the basement I doubt they'll wake up..or try going to a park. One with like a junglejim and stuff, that way you won't be out in the open. The car isn't a bad idea either, like if he's dropping you off late when your parents are already asleep or vice versa. or at a party? that's a likely place once everyone's asleep. hope this helped

Hey well i have naturally straight and thick hair and i love scrunching it. Problem is that my hair would only stay scrunched for like an hour or two and i really want it to stay scrunched for a whole day at school. I've tried sleeping with two buns in my hair and i've also tried the whole french braid thing. Don't even bother the whole tip your head over and just scrunch thing cause my hair won't work that way. Oh, and i definetly don't want a perm so any tips? Thanks in advance.
i scrunch my hair all the time! haha i first use a pantene conditioning cream to keep my hair moisturized (i have dry hair & thick hair) then i use herbal essences gel and hairspray. i first use the gel and then put it up in a bun and finish getting ready.. then i take it out of the bun and put the hairspray in and scrunch it more. it works really well for me! i hope this helpss =]

can you make a smoothie with the only fruit being strawberries? (It is the only fruit right now in my kitchen and Im CRAVING a smoothie of some kind.) what else do I put in the blender? Ice? Milk?
