How Do I Cope With False Rumors Going Around At School?

Question Posted Thursday September 2 2010, 3:58 pm

One night at a party, and I was running around outside with my friends until i tripped and i lost my necklace. I asked a boy to help me look in the woods for it, because that's where I lost it. While we were in the woods, he said "What do I get if I find it?" and I said, you'll find out when you find it! And sure enough he found my necklace, then he asked for his "reward" and I said he gets nothing but a thank you.

So school started this week, and today a boy walked up to me and said "HEY, if i find your necklace will you give ME head?" and I was really confused. Until one of my close friends came up to me and asked me if i blew a kid who found my necklace at a party. Of course I said no.. because i didn't! And people in school keep bringing it up.

I guess I'm just asking if you have any tips on how to cope with it? Ignore it? Etc.

Thankssss.

You answered your own question- ignore it! People at school want you to get upset, but if you dont, they'll eventually stop. Soon enough, something will happen with someone else that they will be fixated on, then your news, will be old news. Just ignore it, and tough it out, it will pass soon enough :)

I'm going to second what you've already been told - ignore it.

Rumours are ALWAYS going round and I can guarantee that in a couple of weeks or so this will be old news and people will stop caring.

If someone asks you about it, act like you don't care. Alternatively, make a comment about the fact that this guy must be pretty lame to have to make up stories about getting head rather than getting it for real, or that you're flattered he used you in his fantasy.

Well,me and alot of my friends have been in this situation or in this type of situation where rumors are made up and spread around the entire school. The best advice I can give you is ignore it and if some of your friends ask you if it's true, tell them the truth. It will all go away in a short amount of time,(unless people at your school don't let go of that kind of stuff). Just wait until it all blows over. And especially, don't live up to the rumors or the titles that other kids give you if it's bad. Be true with yourself and don't get caught up. Because there are some cases where bad rumors are spread about people and they end up lying to themselves and making it true by not denying it or living up to it.

So,stay pure and honest with yourself.

Sincerly,Your new friend

first of all, that jerk needs to feel bad for what he did. how to do this? nicely request a conference with your counselor to tell him/her what happened, and how it's having repercussions for you around school. see if they can set up some "conflict resolution" between you, so he can apologize in person and say that he will put the rumor to rest. tell your friends it didn't happen, and have them spread the word that the guy is a loser who spreads rumors because he can't seem to get any on his own. if anyone asks about it, tell them exactly what happened. it's honestly a pretty terrible story that he should feel embarassed to have repeated.

Ignore it. Or better yet, pretend like it doesn't bother you. Laugh at their ignorance and stupidity. Pretty soon, everyone will forget about it. The ones who still remember it are probably the ones who started the rumor. Don't let people make you feel like you're below them. You're obviously a much better person than all those people combined.

Honestly a lot of people have nothing better to do that to start rumors and mess up you life. It happens to everyone and honestly if you just ignore the comments for a while everything will blow over. I know its hard to just ignore something like that but you can do it! And if someone comes up and says anything like that again either be like what are you talking about? or just laugh it off and say it never happened.

Hope i helped ("

Ignore them. Hold your head high.

Chances are this is not the first time he has lied about his sexual adventures and his friends are probably suspicious, but hoping he's telling the truth so that there's hope for them, too.

If pressed you can respond "Oh, is that what he's saying? That's interesting."

Unfortunately it is hard to stop that kind of rumor by just saying I didn't do it.

You can -
A. talk to him - but he is a jerk so that won't work
B. Let the rumor die down - rumors are only good until another better one comes along
C. Just keep saying "Apparently He feels the only way he get a blow job is to make one up. That is some pretty serious self esteem issues."
D. It was a necklace and I knew him for 5 seconds. WOW and you believed him? You look smarter than that.

The point is the people coming up to you probably don't believe him but want to make you uncomfortable. Don't be it will takes the fun out of it for them. A rumor that isn't fun to spread dies quickly. A rumor that spreads far and wide becomes a legend.

That is the real trick here is react like it is the most ridiculous thing in the world.

Funny but not advised
E. admit the lie- simply say "Hey he was so sweet and we where both feeling each other but then he pulled it out and well is yellow goo on it normal? I was not going near it! (alternatives-it was soo tiny is 2in normal? etc etc)

Find the kid and dump him on his ass. In the meantime try and ignore it. It will go away that way when people see you aren't phased by it or even dignifying it with a response. But, if you get your chance to hit him in front of others that will go a long way too.

I don't condone violence but when someone has something coming to them like he does they deserve it. Sounds as though he's pretty desperate and a blabbermouth and once you can illustrate that he is the rumor will stop and people won't believe a word out of his mouth.
