embarrassed?

Question Posted Friday May 30 2008, 10:20 pm

i pulled a chair from underneath a guy and he fell and everyone laughed and then he laughed too as he got up. and then he gets up and sits right next to someone else and he barely talked to me when i asked him if he was mad at me.

i later found out he was embarassed? WTF? i wouldn't get embarassed if that happened. whats up with guys? do they really get embarassed that easily?

The below pretty much captured the essence of it.

Men actually have pretty fragile egos most of the time. At least, men and boys with little in their life to call accomplishment. (Think guys under like 35)

Weakness embarrases us. And that little chair pull move of yours ecposed his weakness.

So he got embarrased. That's pretty much all that does embarras us, but its a big one, so, yea, we're that easy to embarras.

Why were you pullin chairs out from under people anyway? What did he ever do to you???
...Not that I care. I probably would have laughed too.

If that happened to me, I'd be embarrassed too. You basically ridiculed him in front of the class, so he had a good reason to be pretty annoyed with you.
Not everyone shares the same views on these things - some might be cool about it and not really care, but it can certainly knock other peoples confidence.
Just apologize and say you didn't mean for him to feel that way. After a bit of time, he will forget about it and hopefully carry on as normal with you.

Believe it or not-- Guys have feelings! lol. I did almost the same thing with my friend. He USED to tuck the front of his shirt in so you could see his belt buckle and I said reallly loud by accident, "Your belt looks really dumb like that." And he doesn't do it anymore and didn't talk to me for the rest of that day! So what I'm trying to say is, Yup guys get embrassed that easily. =]]]]]

Be understanding and open to different people, some people get embarassed easily, and he may have laughed to avoid the embarrassment that he was in, making it not obvious, which was a success! ;)

Not sure that this is a question of being a guy. Some people get embarassed more easily than others. Sometimes a joke will go down well with one person and poorly with another.

In general you should be careful with the kind of practical jokes that have a large group of people laughing at (not with) one individual. Those can easily bruise egos and make the individual feel ridiculed and singled out.

Dont get me wrong, some people don't mind at all, but I have found that they are often a minority...

Edit: Minority: lesser number. i.e. there are fewer people who dont mind than those who do (again, in my opinion).
