My Lab.

Question Posted Friday November 23 2007, 3:13 pm

i'm gonna show you a picture of my dog, right below here.
Tuesday night we found him on our porch, we don't know what happened to him, and i was hoping someone on here could tell me whats wrong, or what happened.

we don't have enough money to take him to a vet..but we have this ointment stuff, and one of our other dogs got cut and it healed him, so this should definetly work, but everyone else is telling us to get "blue ointment"?

well here he is, does anyone think he got cut or burnt?
my dad thinks he got ranover, but we're not so sure.
thanks alot!!

oh and this 'cut' is located on his back, almost by his tail, and it's really wide, thick, and kinda long.

here's the picture:

My dog had something similar, though not as bad.
Your dog probably did not get run over, but rather the car (or whatever it was) brushed your dog away and he skidded on the asphalt.
I know you said you don't have the money, but your dog is going to need stitches.
This happened to my dog, and it cost about $700.

Don't put anything on that.

TAKE HIM TO THE VET!i no u said u dont have enough money but this is urgent!

also, clean it out with a warm soaked towel, and it would be best if you could try to to shave around the area(to keep it from getting infected or irritated by the fur in it, cause i could tell there was a good bit of fur in there)
thats my advice, well really it was my aunts advice(she's a vet)

also she said that that looks like either a REALLY REALLY REALLY bad dog fight(but probably not because there would be more wounds) or it got ran over.

REMEMBER:don't put ANYTHING on it, not even that ointment because it could irritate the gash(not 'cut' or 'scratch')

Please, take him to a vet.
It looks very deep and in need of urgent medical attention.
I also wouldn't put anything on it either. It may hurt him ALOT and could do more damage.
Going to a vet is the only thing you can do I'm afraid.
I hope your dog is okay soon.

im not trying to scare you or anything.. and i know you said you cant afford to take him to a vet but this is one of those times when you NEED to. your dog could get an infection and die. you have no idea what happened to him. and if you really cant take him to a vet at least CALL a vet and ask for their advice. that cut needs to get washed so it doesnt get infected. your dog might even need stitches so i really really advise you to do the right thing for your dog and take him to the vet. think of how much pain he must be in. good luck.

Go to a VET!

That is not a 'cut' or a 'scratch' or even a burn. That is gash in his flesh and he likely needs stitches.

Please. If you love your pet, take him to a vet. Pets are members of the family, and just like a mother or a brother sometimes you have to make sacrafices for them.

Take him to a vet!

oh my god, i'm soooo sorry. I'm a pet lover and I cannot stand it when an animal gets hurt. To me, this is very serious. He could die from this. Even if you don't have enough money, drive to the vet with your dog in the car. Then run in there and tell them that its an emergency. Convince them that you'll pay them later. You can also go to the bank and get a loan. (they give you the money and you pay them later) Unless you want your dog to die, thats the only option.

You could try taking a big towel, rinse it under WARM water and lay it on the cut. Make sure to wash out all of the dirt. If theres any dirt that goes in that cut, it could cause an infection which obviously leads to death. So wash out the cut with warm soapy water and rinse very good. Then put on that ointment that you have. (i'm not sure what you're talking about that blue ointment) before you put on that ointment, check the labels. See if the expiration date is good, check if there are any danger warnings, check the directions, how much to put on, how frequently to use.

if you have a local drugstore or petsmart... see if there are any good creams or medicines that help. If all fails, call the vet himself and tell him. sometimes if you show up personally, they won't take you in to see the vet. So try calling. But if the call doesn't work, then go in person so they can actually see how bad the cut is.

I have no idea how your dog got this, probably not from fire because it would've lit his entire body... and not ran over because its just the back and not the legs. Maybe he crawled under a fence and it cut him?? or maybe another animal jumped on him and attacked him?

I pray for your dog
