Ok, here's the story. When I was younger, I thought of God as an invisible being that always watched you and could do anything he wanted. So i'd always say "yes I believe in god". But as I grew older, people who don't believe in God have pointed things out to me. I mean it was MAN who wrote the bible, and MAN who wrote the ten commandments. who's to say man didn't make it all up? One of my frieds once pointed out that "man does not like the thought of nothing after death, so the created an afterlife to believe in instead". Another person that doesn't believe in God said "he is just like Santa Claus, used to make children be good". These seem like pretty realistic remarks to me. Plus there is no "proof" that he does exist right? People who believe in him just say "the feeling is truly wonderful". I have asked God to come into my heart many times, but I never feel any different. Does this make me Atheist?

I believe in the Holy Spirit. I don't believe that you are atheist. You need to get into a church that you feel comfortable in and truly seek God. Here's a quote:
Wouldn't you rather live like there was a God and find out there wasn't
Than live like there wasn't a God and find out there was!
caramella answered Thursday September 6 2007, 7:33 pm: first of all...if there was no god there would be no atheists..the proof to the existence of god is you being here rite now..who eles woulda created you?the problem here is your hearing points of veiws from people who dont know bout their own religion much...how can god enter your heart if you dont do anything to make him enter it?what i think you should do is learn more bout your own religion...whatever it is...if you have doubts...learn bout the other two religions...islam and judism...and then decide what makes sence...we were all created for a reason... amandan answered Wednesday September 5 2007, 4:17 pm: Hmm, this is a pretty intense question, so i'll try my best to help you out. i don't think this makes you an atheist. everyone has the ability to believe and have faith in God, the fact that you are trying makes you far from an atheist. it's always been easy for me to believe in God, you know, i was raised by that. but in your case, it doesn't seem like you have been. believe it or not, God did write the Bible, but it was through man. think about it though, how could all these people all be haulusenating the same exact thing, and then tell it in the same way. God is most definately real in my life, and He can definately be real in yours too, and i can see that you want that. and i guess the best advice i can give you is to keep trying. start attending a youth group or something near you and see how they feel about it. ask some people there if they can help you through it. any other questions, you know where to find me. :)
blackrose13 answered Tuesday September 4 2007, 4:44 pm: well ,,, the people that tell you that God is like santa clause.. they are COMPLETE idiots that dont understand what "life means" i am sorry.. seriouslyif you want me to be straight forward and strict.. because religion isnt something you let go all of the sudden its not a game.. ok so if you dont beleive in God... think to yourself.. whats the purpose of this life??
why are we here..?

how can a man possibly do that.. people say this is how life is
how the planets and etc.. were made.. how can they suddenly be made?? seriously..? what now it can creat itself?

who is giving you a test
and there is heaven in hell because this life is for something how are you just gonna be made and then theres no ending whatsoever.. how? how cant there be nothing in the end..? so what your gonna live and just die?? no
there will be one day when we all will get judged for our sins..

WittyUsernameHere answered Tuesday August 28 2007, 7:04 am: See, thats the thing.
Because thats what people do. They use things.
You know, Santa Clause is really St. Nicholas. A real person once upon a time who did things for children (I dont know if the random gift giving is exactly the way he went about it)
I believe in God. Ive had a few moments in my life where I felt touched. They have always been times when I felt I was guarded, I cant really explain it much better than to put out an example.
I was hit by a car when I was on a bike. The car was going 30 MPH and I not only lived, I walked away without more than a few scratches. When I was riding, all I can say is a little voice told me to jump on the bike. I knew exactly what it meant and that I had to do what it said right then. Then I got hit by a car, went over the hood and through the windshield where the driver stopped me. He had to go to the hospital, I got a few cuts on my arms and back from the glass.
Now, Im not saying that its not possible that was me. That somehow a part of my brain realized the danger I was in and sent my mental systems into turbo mode to get me moving before I was even conciously aware of the car or the danger I was in. Humans can do some amazing things.
But to me, that definitely does NOT feel like what it was. I know my own mental voice. I dont sound like that in my head.
Everyone has their own testimony. Everyone has their own struggle with faith.
But a word edgewise.
People have been using religion to their advantage for thousands of years. When you arent of some kind of royal powerful lineage, religion is the absolute easiest way to power in the ages pre-revolutionary.
Its not outside the realm of the possibility (and personally I think it could be charted as history some day) that the bible and religious texts and many things have been manipulated so that truth would serve individuals in power.
sizzlinmandolin answered Monday August 27 2007, 9:43 pm: I don't think you're atheist. You're not adamant that God doesn't exist, you actually kind of believe that He does. You sound agnostic to me. You don't believe in organized religion or anything like that, but you think that God could exist, there's just no way to prove it one way or another. As many things that "prove" that God doesn't exist, there's many more that "prove" that He does.
KisaKiss19 answered Monday August 27 2007, 8:36 pm: well, if you don't believe in god, you are an atheist. i'm not going to shove my beliefs down your throat, but i know whenever i truly need help, and i'm at my lowest low, i just look up. and yeah, everything good, thats prob. "whatever's" up there.
You can go with you're friends, and "listen" to them.but what do they know? One thing goes wrong, and theres no God? Its OUR fault there's War. OUR fault we have a government, and in my opinion,a bad president.
This doubt, maybe its something you should think about more. Maybe, you feel somethings really there, that's why you asked advice on this, right? 98% Of teens don't believe in god, because we're too stubborn now a days, people always need an explaination. The things that can't be explained, are left to be unreal. Why is it so easy for people to believe in ghosts, but not God? I don't know, no one does. In the end, no one knows where it all began. i hope i helped <3.
RATZY answered Monday August 27 2007, 4:45 pm: have a read of this story from a forwarded email, and hopefully you can decide for yourself:
A MAN WENT TO A BARBERSHOP TO HAVE HIS HAIR CUT AND HIS BEARD TRIMMED. AS THE BARBER BEGAN TO WORK.
THEY BEGAN TO HAVE A GOOD CONVERSATION. THEY TALKED ABOUT SO MANY THINGS AND VARIOUS SUBJECTS. WHEN THEY EVENTUALLY TOUCHED ON THE SUBJECT OF GOD.
THE BARBER SAID: "I DON'T BELIEVE THAT GOD EXISTS."
"WHY DO YOU SAY THAT?" ASKED THE CUSTOMER. "WELL, YOU JUST HAVE TO GO OUT IN
THE STREET TO REALIZE THAT GOD DOESN'T EXIST. TELL ME, IF GOD EXISTS, WOULD THERE BE SO MANY SICK PEOPLE? WOULD THERE BE ABANDONED CHILDREN? IF GOD EXISTED, THERE WOULD BE NEITHER SUFFERING NOR PAIN. I CAN'T IMAGINE A LOVING GOD WHO WOULD ALLOW ALL OF THESE THINGS." THE CUSTOMER THOUGHT FOR A MOMENT, BUT DIDN'T RESPOND BECAUSE HE DIDN'T WANT TO START AN ARGUMENT.
THE BARBER FINISHED HIS JOB AND THE CUSTOMER LEFT THE SHOP.
JUST AFTER HE LEFT THE BARBERSHOP, HE SAW A MAN IN THE STREET WITH LONG, STRINGY, DIRTY HAIR
AND AN UNTRIMMED BEARD. HE LOOKED DIRTY AND UNKEMPT. THE CUSTOMER TURNED BACK AND ENTERED THE BARBER SHOP AGAIN AND HE SAID TO THE BARBER: "YOU KNOW WHAT? BARBERS DO NOT EXIST."
"HOW CAN YOU SAY THAT?" ASKED THE SURPRISED BARBER. "I AM HERE, AND I AM A BARBER. AND I JUST WORKED ON YOU!"
"NO!" THE CUSTOMER EXCLAIMED. "BARBERS DON'T EXIST BECAUSE IF THEY DID, THERE WOULD BE NO PEOPLE WITH DIRTY LONG HAIR AND UNTRIMMED BEARDS, LIKE THAT MAN OUTSIDE."
"AH, BUT BARBERS DO EXIST! THAT'S WHAT HAPPENS WHEN PEOPLE DO NOT COME TO ME."
"EXACTLY!" AFFIRMED THE CUSTOMER.
"THAT'S THE POINT! GOD, TOO, DOES EXIST! THAT'S WHAT HAPPENS WHEN PEOPLE DO NOT GO TO HIM AND DON'T LOOK TO HIM FOR HELP.
THAT'S WHY THERE'S SO MUCH PAIN AND SUFFERING IN THE WORLD." [ RATZY's advice column | Ask RATZY A Question ]
MyHappyShoe answered Monday August 27 2007, 3:36 pm: If you believe there is a heaven and a hell then you're agnostic. If you don't believe in it then that makes you Atheist.
The reason why God hasn't come into your heart is because you're shutting Him out. Let Him into your life and soul, you might not PHYSICALLY feel any different but you will somehow feel a difference. Just open up to Him don't turn your back. [ MyHappyShoe's advice column | Ask MyHappyShoe A Question ]
