i think i'm getting in over my head, with two math classes and two honors classes. also, i'm in cheerleading that has practice 3-5:30 daily after school, and i'm in volleyball, which practices 6-8 every monday, wednesday, and thursday.
do you think i should drop one or both of the honors classes? [english and biology] i'm deffinately staying in algebra 2 and geometry, because i love math and i can deal with those.
personal experiences would be great.
thanks in advance. (:
Additional info, added Monday July 30 2007, 3:48 pm: oh and by the way, do you know what calculator i'll need for algebra 2/geometry?
someone else asked that, but they only asked about algebra 2, so i didn't know if it'll be different because i'm in geometry. thanks (:. Want to answer more questions in the Work & School category? Everyone wants to stay active in school and while doing that, being in honors and everything which is great!
However, all these activites will exhaust you and you will grow grumpy during the school and tired during your activites in the afternoon.
I personally think you should drop one activity such as Volleyball. You can also drop cheerleading if you love Volleyball better. Drop one of them. Also, you should drop one math class. You forgot all the homework and you will need sleep. Drop one class in school and one activity. You will be more free to live your life plus do an activity you really love. You might have time to actually sleep! Sleep is important and every person needs it. If you disagree with dropping two things, drop one activity and keep your math classes you enjoy. I think that will be good for you. [ orphans's advice column | Ask orphans A Question ]
advicer answered Monday July 30 2007, 11:03 pm: I did honors English and honors world history my freshmen year, and played volleyball. We had volleyball everyday, the same you have cheerleading. I did okay in history, but I stuggled a bit in English. The only thing really tough was the tests. They were just too long, and I'm usually the last person done with a test, because I like to take my time. Plus, I didn't try as hard as I should have. I didn't read like half the books because I couldn't stand that Mythology crap, haha. Too many people and stories and all that. But, I ended with a C.
I'm not sure about honors biology. I'm taking that this year [I'm going into 10th grade]. But, my friend took it and said it was really easy. She got like a C on every test because she never studied, and ended with an A in the class because there was so much extra credit offered. And, when she did study for the final, she ended with A.
I'm pretty sure that for math, you'd need a graphing calculator. I'm not 100% sure because I'm taking geometry this year. My friends that took it didn't like it, but I think most got a B, but you like math, so that's not a problem.
I'm not sure what Spanish you're taking. I just took Spanish I and it was really easy.
As for the sports, it's up to you. I played volleyball, and it didn't conflict too much. But, since you're play two sports, it might not leave much time for homework and studying.
If you're willing to work really hard, then go for it. Don't drop any classes. But, if you know you're probably going to slack off, you might want to suggest dropping one. My suggestion is try that schedule to the first semester, and if it's too hard, you can drop out at the semester. Plus, volleyball is only a few months long. I'm not sure about cheerleading though. I'm sure you can do it though. I'd try it. Good luck! :) [ advicer's advice column | Ask advicer A Question ]

Taking honors classes is good for you simply because it can help you to graduate early & get into better colleges. So does doubling up on subjects like Math, English, Global & Science. For Math, you'll need a scientific calculatro UNLESS your teacher tells you otherwise.
Doing all the things you're doing now is good for college & can even get you a scholarship if you really work hard. Don't drop it because it'll help you in the longrun. I've never done an honors class, but I'm doing AP Psychology next year which I was recommended for. I can guarantee that it'll look good, so keep it. Besides, challenge yourself & see what you can do.
Erinn_the_bamf answered Monday July 30 2007, 10:10 pm: I'd say don't drop the honors classes. It's good to challenge yourself. Out of 8 classes, I generally take 4 honors classes. It's really not hard.
xwishonstarsx answered Monday July 30 2007, 9:22 pm: I say keep all your classes.
My freshman year, I had geometry honors, latin 1 (which is weighted as an honors), english 1 honors, chemistry 1, a business class, and weightlifting/life management skills.
I ran cross country and track, and was in 3 clubs.
It got a little tough at times, but I managed to get all A's.
Just pay attention during class, study and do your homework during whatever free time you have.
It's better to take challenging classes than to skate by, taking easy classes.
And, you'll have a higher GPA + ranking. :) [ xwishonstarsx's advice column | Ask xwishonstarsx A Question ]
LaceyIsPrettyBomb answered Monday July 30 2007, 8:41 pm: You deffinetly might want to consider dropping one of your honors classes with that schedule. I wouldnt say drop both, because I'm in one honors class and things like that, and I'm fine. But two honors classes, two math classes, and cheerleading is a little much. At my school, honors biology is actually pretty easy. I dont know if its the same at your school, but you might want to drop honors english.
At my school, in algebra one and geometry, all's we had to buy for calculators was just a scientific calculator. We used graphing calculators, but the school provided a classroom set for each teacher, so we didnt have to buy one. It would be a good idea to buy a graphing calculator for homework and things because theyr really helpful, it just all depends if your willing to pay that much(they can run around $100 depending upon where you get it)
