im a varsity cheerleader and we just got back from camp and it was pretty tough. we stunted alot and im a base so my wrists hurt really bad. is there any way i can protect them? or do i just need to get used to it? also what can i do for my sore arms?
XkittyOkatX answered Friday June 29 2007, 3:10 pm: Okay, so from my experience (1 year as a base and 4 as a flyer) this should help you:
Sore arms, as bad as they feel, are a great sign! They mean you're lifting with your arms and doing your part. But you also have to lift with your legs, as odd as it sounds. Make sure you bend when about to push your flyer up. This will help get elevation, and will make your job easier. Just make sure you and the other base are in sync.
You can protect your wrists by either getting a wrist guard, or simply taping them. This will help restrict them from going too far back, and reducing pain in the end :)
LowTeaToe answered Friday June 29 2007, 2:26 pm: you should try a brace for your wrists. apply ice often....OR OR..(lol. ^_^) get some of this ointment stuff called "bengay" or this other stuff called,"icy hot." either one works REALLY GOOD on sore spots. uisforukelele answered Friday June 29 2007, 2:21 pm: for soreness you could try taking tylenol or something. also, icyhot is good for topical pain. i have played piano for a really long time, so my wrists start to kill me from time to time and i have this wrist brace thing. you can get them at the drugstore or grocery store. they are surprisingly comfortable and effective. you might even be able to get one that you can wear during practice, but that's your decision. runawayxlove answered Friday June 29 2007, 12:17 pm: Hey, well if you have cheering practice anytime soon be careful and try to stunt as limited as you can (i know thats hard because varsity cheering is serious and hard to slow down with). If you dont becareful with your wrist, it could end up really messed up and then you could be out with an injury halfway during the season. Go to CVS and look at the medicial section. See if they have like a stretchy cast type thing for your wrist. Wear that around the house so your not moving it around that much. Stretch it out tho before you put that on. Put your arms and hands out in front of you. Notice how you fingers go fisrt, switch that up. Turn them so your wrists go first instead of your fingers. Then lay your hands flat on the floor and feel the stretch. Good luck =]. [ runawayxlove's advice column | Ask runawayxlove A Question ]

With your sore muscles, soaking in an Epsom Salt bath does wonders. It may also help with the ache in your wrist.
