They give you the straight on, full-out answer.
It is what Tina_Duh described best, not what you want to hear, but what you need to hear. ]
basically, they dont 'sweeten' their answers.
they tell the cold hard truth like it is. ]
It means you tell the truth & say what they NEED to hear rather than what they WANT to hear. ]
It mean's they're blunt, or maybe rude.
They will tell thing's how it is without any hesitation, they don't care if they hurt your feelings. ]
basically they arent gonna be all nice about it they will give you the honest truth if you need it.

Just means they'll be very blunt/honest with you, even if it's rude/mean. They're not going to lie to you to spare your feelings basically. ]
it means they don't mess around with a bunch of stuff to "give you what you want to here" or "lie to agree with you/make you feel better"
example:
"i'm 4'11, 200 lbs and my doctor said i'll have a heart attack by 20 if i don't lose some weight. should i lose weight?"
sugarcoated answer: hmm maybe you could try to shape up a little for your health. you seem ok though, there are a lot of big-boned people out there.
not sugarcoated: yeah you should really go to a gym...you are really overweight and unhealthy. listen to your doctor and lose at least 50 pounds.
if you need anything else, let me know. <3 ]
well whoever it is means that the truth is not necessarily told in a "diplomatic" way... i.e be warned the responses you get from that columnist may be harsh or just blunt as much as truthful.... ]
