Alright well, my mom gave me a book when I turned 13 called "What I Wish Someone Told Me About Sex When I was 13" I wanted to smack her for giving it to me because I felt so retarded. But, I ended up reading it when I got bored enough. It was all about what the bible said about sex and such and there was a section about masterbation and it basically said that masterbation isn't mentioned in the bible and that there isn't really anything wrong with it.

The way it was described to me by church leaders, is that it's not just actual masturbation that is the sin. What do you think about when you masturbate? Do you fantasize about having sex? Do you look at porn? Do you think about someone in particular when you masturbate? That is something a lot of people don't think about when contemplating whether masturbation is a sin or not.
Now, I can't tell you whether it is a sin or not. I have no idea. Only you can make that decision. My opinion? I agree with the other columnists. Go for it.

Gen.38:9-10
And Onan knew that the seed should not be his; and it came to pass, when he went in unto his brother's wife, that he spilled it on the ground, lest that he should give seed to his brother. And the thing which he did displeased the LORD: wherefore he slew him also.

This passage in the Bible, in which a man essentially refuses to impregnate his brother's widow, is the basis for all the Church has to say about the sin of masturbation (it's also the entire basis for the Church's stance against birth control). There is NOTHING else in the entire book about the subject. (Actually, there is a bit in Leviticus that says you should wash yourself with water if you get any "seed" on you, but you're probably already doing that - see Lev 15:16-18.)
In other words, whatever your church has to say on the subject, it's clear that the Bible has very little to say - and the Bible has a LOT of specific rules about how and with whom one is permitted to have sex. A reasonable person would assume that since masturbation is not specifically mentioned, God isn't taking sides on this issue, and the Church's ideas have more to do with tradition and inertia than the Word of God.
Spoolie21 answered Wednesday April 18 2007, 7:28 pm: Hey. I'm a Christian too and technically mastrubating is a sin, but ALL sins are forgiving. Anyways, not only Catholics can go to confession. I'm NOT Catholic, but I go to a Catholic school and I go to confession all the time. If you don't feel comfortable talking to a "father"/priest than you can talk to God. Just as a normal prayer, asking him to forgive you and help you do better....etc
We all sin and always will, but if we ask for God's forgiveness or mercy then we will be okay and he will always help us and never put us through more than we can bear...
