OK, if I only eat a little everyday, what will happen?
Question Posted Thursday April 12 2007, 8:56 pm
Ok.I'm basically not skinny. I've tryed EVERYTHING to get it to go away. I've done dieting, but I keep on braking them, and I'm already in about 1 thosand sports. So I'm thinking about only eating lunch and a little dinner everyday, but I don't know how bad that is for me. Like for lunch, a salad, orange juice (which is nasty), and for dinner maybe only an apple. So should I do it or not? Plus, I need to know if I should do it or not, what should I do?
pootietang answered Friday April 13 2007, 12:46 am: You shouldn't eat that little amount of food. The lettuce in your salad is extremely low in calories, and an apple has about 80. So that would be around 400 calories maximum..every day?
Your body needs breakfast, first of all. I can see having an apple for breakfast because that's what I usually eat. Then for lunch, just have a main entree (hamburger, spaghetti, etc.) and 2 sides. No buying ice cream or chips.
Replace your drinks with water. This REALLY helps. Also, you need a larger dinner than an apple. Something about the size of your lunch should be okay.
To be honest with you, I tried a diet very similar to the one that you're thinking about. I lost some weight, but I was absolutely miserable. I had to convince myself not to eat almost every 5 minutes and food was constantly on my mind. It is very similar to anorexia, and you could become depressed by it as well as very unhealthy.
I beg you to just limit the size of your meals. What I've noticed is that limiting the size of your meals is a faster solution to losing weight than exercising. This doesn't mean replace dinner with an apple or lunch with a salad. It means turn 2 plates of pasta, 3 sides of mashed potatoes, gatorade, and cookies into 1 plate of spaghetti, a side of green beans, and milk.
lbwhite89 answered Thursday April 12 2007, 9:40 pm: That is definitely NOT healthy. The average person should consume between 1200-2000 calories a day. If you go any less than that, it is very unhealthy.
This is what I eat each day:
Breakfast:
-Bowl of cereal (Special K w/ Red Berries or Honey Bunches of Oats (plain, peach, or strawberry) or Raisin Bran Crunch
-OR 1 pack sugar free instant oatmeal with 2 splenda packets and a Light & Fit yogurt
-OR 2 multigrain blueberry waffles with sugar free syrup and yogurt
-OR 1 whole grain english muffin with sugar free strawberry jam
-OR 2 mini multigrain bagels with lite onion & chive cream cheese
Lunch:
-Low Sodium soup with a 100 calorie pack or light potato chips
-OR a sandwich made with light wheat bread, regular cheese, and low fat lunch meat with a low calorie pack
Snack:
-1 yogurt, 1 low sugar granola bar, and 1 calorie pack
-OR fruit of any kind
Dinner:
-I eat sensible portions of everything my mom makes. She uses real butter and everything, but I don't count calories so I just include it in my daily diet.
Snack:
-1 pack low calorie popcorn
-OR 1 rice cake and a no sugar added apple sauce
I also jog/power walk over a mile (20 minutes) 5 days a week and do extra exercises such as squats, crunches, etc. 3 times a week.
You just have to eat sensibly and watch your portions. Eat low-fat/light everything, whole grains, fruits and veggies, etc.
However, I do all of this to MAINTAIN my weight. I only do it 5 days a week and on the weekends I eat whatever I want.
I also had a weight problem for a while and dieted and all that and it never stuck. You could try Atkins...that was the first diet I had the willpower to stick with and I lost almost 30lbs while on it. The only reason I switched to low-cal instead of sticking with low carb was I eventually got sick of meat, eggs, cheese, broccoli, green beans, spinach leaves, and peanut butter.

The diet you are wanting to go on sounds very unhealthy in relation to nutrition that your body needs and you will endup doing more harm than good.
Diets are very hardto stick to - the longest I managed was a month but I hadto break mine because of an accident. I will give you a breakdown of the diet I was on and will be back on in a couple of weeks hopefully as it really made a difference tome personally:
Snacks: When I felt I needed a snack instead of going for something unhealthy like crisps or chocolate bars I went for fruit instead. Apples, peaches, grapes, bananas - any fruit helped get rid of that snack craving and was healthy at the same time.
Breakfast: It's not how much you eat but more what you eat that counts. I go for a wheat based breakfast and instead of sugar I use sliced bananas and strawberries and low fat milk. A drink to go with this would be either tea without sugar (if I needed to wake up, lol) or freshly squeezed orange juice.
Lunch: Sandwiches with a tuna filling and a drink of any kind (no drinks containing caffine like coke and such). Although it doesn't seem like much the tuna was very filling and when I felt like wanting something hot Imade toasties using the tuna. Didn't taste excellent but they did the job for me.
Dinner: A serving of vegetables along with a drink and either a grilled fillet of some form of fish or some meat to go with the vegetables.
Add with this a 4 days a week trip to the gym and I was well on the way especially since at the gym I had a personal trainer help develop a plan just for me.
The routine I said above was written up for me by a cousin who has a lot of experience with this kind of thing so I knew I was in safe hands. I would strongly urge you to seek the same kind of help from someone who can advise you professionally on what kind of a diet to go on. You could try your doctor who can recommend a professional you can talk to or visiting a gym may also help as they generally know a lot about this kind of thing (atleast here in the UK they do). As I said above, if not done correctly you will only end up doing more harm to yourself which is something you should certainly avoid.
Stick with it though and don't give up on yourself. It is really hard to stick with a diet but once you get into it you really will forget your on a diet and it will just become second nature. [ ammo's advice column | Ask ammo A Question ]

orphans answered Thursday April 12 2007, 9:22 pm: hey girl
i totally know how you feel - but it's way stupider to do that! you know why? cause the LESS food you put in your body, good or not, the less calories you burn off, and the slower your metabolism goes :/'
the problem is probably that you're turning the "fat" into muscle by doing so many sports! do only one or two - muscle weighs more than fat.
eat 6 "snacks" a day. one could be like, yogurt & cereal in a bowl, another could be a fruit cup, or even like a strawberry smoothie (low-fat). just get all your food groups in - not just fruits & veggies like everyone says. that way you'll get so many nutrients & vitamins that your metabolism will be fast throughout the day.
another tip is to eat your meals smallest to largest. aka, breakfast the largest, dinner the smallest. know why? cause if you eat the most food in the morning, it will keep you going & keep you energetic & active throughout the day. however, if you do it the other way around, all the food from dinner sits in your stomach & turns into fat. also, allow 2-3 hours after dinner to let the food digest. don't just hit the hay after dinner. christina answered Thursday April 12 2007, 9:21 pm: You'll lose weight, become unhealthy & possibly give yourself an eating disorder.
DepthofHeart answered Thursday April 12 2007, 9:20 pm: That's not healthy. If dieting doesn't work for you then try to cut back on your portions and drink more water, but don't starve yourself. Besides not eating breakfast slows your metabolism. [ DepthofHeart's advice column | Ask DepthofHeart A Question ]
