make it red, and get a light with a dimmer that you can put on the ceiling. your could get those drapes people put over beds, and try to find a bed spread thats black and white striped. put pictures up or your band posters. then you could write some of your own lyrics and display them. OH. and get like chalk board paint. what you do is paint a section of your wall with the paint, and the you border it. you can write on it and it'll look so good with the red.
another option, is paint your room alllll white with one black chalk board wall. or you could use slanted red + white stripes,on the walls. i hope i helped you some what & good luck :]!

Hey. I would paint your room a dark red. But for a trim either on the top the middle or the bottom, you could put a strip of black. Then you can hang up posters of bands or celebrities you like and bam! A room that you and your mom can agree on. Hope I helped ♥ fabulous

Have some advice from a fellow goth: I had my walls done in a shade of dark grey couple of months ago, and it looks really great! Black walls can easily get too massive, and then you'll get sick and tired of them. But dark grey's wonderful and looks great especially if you have red lamps! And don't forget all the posters of your fav goth bands and all your gloomy drawings!

Hope I helped, anything else you want to know, just ask me.

DOn't do anything too drastic. I'm a fan of being what you want to be but trust me, in a year or 2, you will be into different things.
I would do a very classic black, white & red theme. white walls, black curtains and red accessories. I don't know what kind of goth you are but that's what i think would look very edgy without freaking someone out. if you need anything else, lemme know. i love designing rooms. <3

EDIT:purple black white pokadots... hmm. Find a bed spread with one of those solid colrs and then curtains with that color with polkadots or vice versa. you could do the white wall think or maybe paint on purple circles if that's your thing. if you want to keep it simple, get a purple or black light andhave everything else purple/ black or white.

I hope that you realize that the columnist straightup does have a point. You're a teenager. You need to start thinking about your future. It's closer than you think. People don't take goths seriously. You say your mom hates it, well so does everyone else. You will have a really hard time finding work if you plan on staying goth into your adulthood. If you're not into drugs or alcohol yet and you remain goth, the chances of you becoming so are much higher. Even though you may believe that you'd never do that, you must admit that it does come with the territory. People will think you're on drugs anyway even if you're not and that can be just as detrimental for you. If your time being goth leads you to become a drug user, that will affect your future even more in a negative way than just the way you dress and the music you listen to. While you are goth, do your best not to get involved with the drug aspect of the culture. Druggies are seriously the scum of the earth and will forever be the victims of their own obsessions. You're stronger than that.

I'm not saying that it's not okay for you to be goth in dress, music, and such, for the time being. It's perfectly fine as long as you realize that you just can't stay that way for the rest of your life and still be a successful person. I'll admit goths are pretty cool. I like the gothic culture minus the drugs. The goth look is amazing. Stay with it, but drop it in a few years. You'll be really happy that you did. Other people's opinions of you are very important and define who you are more than you do yourself. It sucks, but that's how it works. If you want to spend the rest of your life "expressing yourself" you need a huge reality check. You need to make people other than yourself happy through the course of your life to get anything.

I hope that you read what I'm saying to you and really think about it. I don't expect you to understand it now because you are only 13, at the peak of rebelliousness and egocentrism. I can only hope that someday in the near future, it'll get across to you. Please don't base your response to my advice on whether or not you liked what I said to you. Please base it on the quality of advice that I am giving to you. Whether you want to take it or not, it is probably some of the best advice that anybody will ever give you. I'm not tooting my own horn here. I've heard this advice given to girls like you many times before and when it was actually followed, I've seen it do a whole lot of good. I know it's good advice. I can only hope that I presented it in a way that you will think so too. It could be the difference from being in poverty to enjoying a great life.

To your actual question. I know a girl who's parents wouldn't let her paint her room black so she chose red. It looks AMAZING. It came out more of a dark orange, but it just looks so sinister and very goth especially with all of the black posters and things she has for decorations. I've seen black rooms before and they just didn't look good. It's too dark and boring and it's not "in your face" at all, which is a huge part of the goth culture. Red is just, whoa. I highly recommend that to you. Even if you give up the goth thing, it'll still look pretty sweet. Good luck. :)

A vibrant purple would look great on the walls - like the purple of Dita von Teese's wedding dress - and shouldn't be too dark/OTT for your mum to object to, as it would be easy to 'lighten up' with different furnishings/accessories. I am not sure what your budget is or what your current furnishings are like, but a black wrought iron bedframe is sooo cool and gothic, and a really neat and cheap way to add light and a bit of gothic fantasy to the room is to get plain fairy lights, you know like the christmas kind but not the multicoloured ones, and wind them around the bedframe. Looks really cool at night :)
Also nothing is more gothic than a four-poster bed, but a cool way to get the same effect is to buy a black mosquito net and hang it over your bed, they should be pretty easy to find.
A few splashes of red and white would also brighten up the purple, so if you have a desk or side table, maybe brighten it up with a black vase filled with fake red roses, and a framed photo of a cool black and white print. White candles here and there would also look really cool, and you can pick up some pretty cool old candelabras from second hand stores.
Have a look at vintage shops, auction houses and second hand stores for accessories! Old strings of pearls can be draped over mirrors or cast on the top of desks for a really romantic goth look, ooh and if you can find a wrought iron bust or an old dressmaker's dummy, they make cool sculptural pieces of art, especially if you dress them in a cool red/black/white/polkadotted corset top and a strand of pearls.
There's so much you could do! If you have any more specific questions please contact me, I hope I helped!
*EDIT* With a silver bunk bed, you already have a four poster :) You could buy a couple of lengths of cheap black chiffon from a fabric store, and drape them like curtains from underneath the top bunk, so they obscure the bottom bunk, and hold them to the side with some tie-backs. Get some contrasting red fabric to cover the underside of the bunk, and attach some red fabric roses, tres romantic and makes the bunk bed not so kiddy! If you sleep on the top bunk, cover the bottom bunk in black fabric, a white faux fur throw and some nice red and black cushions, and voila! It's a great gothic chillout space.

You should probably drop the goth thing now while you still can. Let's face it, you won't be goth for your whole life, and you will want a job someday, somewhere other than subway or mcdonalds. So try to decorate it in a normal way- something you wont regret in a year. Maybe paint it a neutral color, and decorate it in a gothic way with pictures and shit that you can take down and change.
I'm just trying to save you some time.
Good Luck.

well my friend is kinda gothic and she has a purple room and has like a black bed spread. red is a good color too and maybe even like.. stripes (up and down) would be cool. posters also are really good. like my friend she has like posters of bands covering on side of the wall and lamp shades make a diff. too. anything goes pretty much. trust me once you go into a store youll find lots of gothy things!

&& remember that you can do this over time really slowly so your mom doesnt realize it as much. or maybe even try putting up pictures and paintings. maybe even a collage of friends on one wall. it might not seem gothic but if your gothic and then people you hang out with are gothic then it might give the room more of a gothic vibe. =]

Okay, if you hate pink, blue & green, you basically hate the outside? Haha.

Anyways, paint your walls maybe a deep purple, or a deep blood red. Then have like black bedding & try to get black/red carpet. Or white. Basically anything.
