Yes, this is exactly why your computer will run slowly. Luckily, there are things you can do to keep your computer running fast. You can Defrag your computer (otherwise, known as Disk Defragment), you can find this in your start menu, under "System Tools." I also, recommend Disk Cleanup, which you can find in the same place. These will both remove unwanted, and programs that you do not use and will free up lots of space. I recommend doing this once a week, or twice if you have many programs on your computer.

Also, you can go into your Control Panel, and click on "Add/Remove Programs" and remove any programs or software that you do not use or do not want, this will free up space as well.

Do you open too many windows? Programs?

Usually that's it.

You could either close the windows you aren't using and your computer shouldn't be lagging.

Or, get more space.

You might have too much info on your hard drive.
Either that or you have programs that take up too much space on it. TIP:Get a new computer.

You can get an external harddrive, install RAM, or delete unnecessary files.

That means you need to install more RAM. RAM is pretty cheap, $30-$60 for 256MB. You'll need a technician to install it for you, since it's pretty advanced. As a TEMPORARY fix you can right click on "my computer"(in start menu) and then go to the "advanced tab" and then click on the button by "performance" and then go to "advanced" tab and then click "change" at the bottom. Then double both the numbers in the boxes and click "set". This is not the same as RAM and it's not a permanent solution.

Virtual memory has nothing to do with a hard drive, and you shouldn't buy one for this problem.
