Dependant Cousin

Question Posted Tuesday January 30 2007, 11:23 pm

Alright well my cousin copies me A LOT! I MEAN LIKE ALL THE TIME!
She's a year younger than me...i'm 13/f
-She wears her hair like me all the time
-She's trying to get a cell phone because I got one
-She's getting a perm because my hair is naturally curly
-She tells me im pretty all the time so she tries to look like me
-one time she came up to me and asked me if i liked the song mockingbird by eminem and i was like "no, i hate that song." so she was like "omg me too! it's so annoying." but then my other cousin nick ran up to me and said "she's lying, she told me she LOVED that song!"
It's getting to the point where I don't know her because she's trying to be me! She needs to be her own person but i dont know how to tell her cuz i've tried and it never worked. she's been copying me for years and i've confronted her about it like 3 times...
but i get jealous when she temporarily stops copying me and copies someone else
REALLY JEALOUS!
but whenever i ask her something like..."do you like the song say it right by nelly furtado?" she'll ask me if i like it first shell be like " i don't know do you?" and then if i say yes shes like "me too it's awesome." so then i change my mind a minute later and say "nah maybe not" so she says "Me neither" so i can keep changing my mind and she'll change it with me!
help! i don't know if i want her to stop!
i just need to make up my mind,
<3<3<3<3
thanks in advance!!!

She just looks up to you sweetheart.

You should be flattered.

Although it may be annoying at times, please try to be a positive rolemodel.

She wants to be just like you, and it's pretty inevitable.

All you can do is embrace it and keep in mind shes younger.

Good Luck,

wow, that could get annoying. but this may be a good sign for you in the future! you're obviously a good role model since she does that so much. you should tell her, it's ok to look up to me, but act the way you want to, like what you like, if i don't like something you like, it's not a big deal. i wouldn't worry much. hope this helps!

I know it can get quite annoying, but, think of it this way, someone (no matter who) is looking up to you. She thinks you're special. So, my advice is to set a good example for her. Trust me, my little cousin does the same thing with me. And, someone else will come along that she will copy and admire eventually, but for right now, just live with it, and know that you really mean something special to someone.

Whoa. This is a damn good question. I've been in that position before. And it's really annoying.
Ask yourself: Which one do I prefer, or which one can I stand more- For her to keep copying me? Or for her to copy someone else?

That's all you need to know. There's no use for me to go on preaching about the goodness of her being unique. Ultimately, you're the one who's gonna make the decision.

I guess you could look at it this way- she looks up to you as a role model.

I like how you think she should be her own person, because I think that is very important. Otherwise, she is a follower instead of being a unique individual.

Try to teach her that it's better to like her own things, have her own style, and develop her own opinion rather than liking things because some one else does.

This will cure you jealousy, because she isn't copying some one else, and it will cure your frustration that she's copying you.
