What is the difference?
I am seriously confused,
because I've heard that Agnostic means you don't believe in anything, and Athiest means you make fun of God.
Is that right?
PunkieFreak4690 answered Thursday January 25 2007, 8:01 pm: I used to get confused between the two, as well but they are pretty different from each other. And no, being agnostic does not mean you don't believe in anything, nor being an atheist meaning you make fun of God.
Agnostic:
1. a person who holds that the existence of the ultimate cause, as God, and the essential nature of things are unknown and unknowable, or that human knowledge is limited to experience.
2. a person who denies or doubts the possibility of ultimate knowledge in some area of study.
In other words, an agnostic believes in a higher power, or that there is a God (powerful person) out there, and not necessarily the specific God many people refer to in Christianity.
These people can also be rather more skeptical of an existence of God, which Christians & Catholics (etc) worship, or can be completely unsure of a God's existence. It's similar to being atheist so don't get confused on this part.
Atheist:
1. a person who denies or disbelieves the existence of a supreme being or beings
In other words, someone who does not believe that there are NO existence at all of a God or of a high power. They don't believe in Gods, Goddesses, etc.

Alin75 answered Thursday January 25 2007, 6:40 pm: Im an agnostic. Basically it means I have the joy of arguing with both camps :)
Seriously though, very generally, agnostic belief is based on the notion that there isnt enough information upon which to make a categoric decision about God's existence. Basically, there is certainly no proof that God exists and, similarly, there is no proof he doesnt either. In other words we acknowledge that we simply do not know.
Athiests on the other hand categorically do not believe in the existance of a diety.
queenhearts answered Thursday January 25 2007, 6:06 pm: Agnostics believe in a higher power, not really 'God'.
Athiest means you don't believe in God.. at all.
It doesn't mean you make fun of God.
It's just.. some athiests dislike religions/religious people and tend to make fun of God because they don't believe he exists. So it's like.. "HAHA you believe in someone that's not there"
xokristabelle answered Thursday January 25 2007, 5:29 pm: Agnostics believe there is some form of god, but nothing specifically.
Atheists don't believe in God or the devil.
Negative things:
Some agnostics are people who want to be atheists, but are afraid of going to hell.
A few loud atheists have made people think they're weird. Most atheists ARE normal! (I'm one and I don't make fun of "god"- unless someone tries to convert me). [ xokristabelle's advice column | Ask xokristabelle A Question ]
Xineph answered Thursday January 25 2007, 5:17 pm: An agnostic person is someone who is unsure of what to believe. This means they have either grown disheartened by their own religion and will probably switch, or they have decided that the mysteries of the universe are unsolvable and not worth spending that much time on. In short, someone who is unsure as to whether or not there is a God/higher power/afterlife.
An atheist is someone who has looked at all the facts available to them and decided not to believe that God exists. They believe him to be impossible for a wide number of reasons, and ultimately can not accept the idea of an all-powerful supernatural being. [ Xineph's advice column | Ask Xineph A Question ]
LoveNJstyle answered Thursday January 25 2007, 5:16 pm: Agnostic is where they question whether God is real or not and still want proof.
Athiests don't believe in God or just don't believe anything in general. <3 [ LoveNJstyle's advice column | Ask LoveNJstyle A Question ]

I am Atheist, but I do not "make fun" of god, i just do not believe in him, nor jesus christ.
pockets answered Thursday January 25 2007, 5:07 pm: ---EDIT---: no reason for giving me a 4 when other people who don't know what they're talking about were given 5's.
Uhhhh...No.
I'm an athiest and I have never in any way made fun of or disrespected god or any religion.
Agnostics aren't sure what they believe, they're more of the "i'll believe it if I see it" people.
Athiests do not believe in god or any religion, and they're very matter of fact about it, they aren't unsure, they definitly don't believe in god. [ pockets's advice column | Ask pockets A Question ]
theymos answered Thursday January 25 2007, 5:01 pm: agnostics don't know what they believe(or believe it's impossible to know what's true), atheists firmly don't believe in anything. [ theymos's advice column | Ask theymos A Question ]
