Question Posted Monday January 1 2007, 12:30 am

whenever i change my pad or tampon at school it takes a long time and makes a lot of noise ( the crinkling paper and taking pads off)

so what are some tips on how to do this faster and quieter?

i'll take anything i can get!

ok this is what i do. because i always change my tampons right before lunch when a lot of girls go to the bathroom. i put my tampon in my lunchbag and then when i go into the stall i take my lunch with me. then i wait until someone either flushes the toilet or turns on the water and i quickly open the tampon wrapper. then you can put it in or put on your pad and then when you flush you can put the wrapper in the little box that all of the stalls have.

i hope that helps a little :]

this shouldn't be embarrasing

We are all girls and we all understand.

Really there should be no problem.

Stores sell pads and tampons that have a "quiet open" wrapper. They are made of this cottony stuff so it doesn't make that platic opening sound. They are just as much as the regular stuff. Happy 2007.

you could wear two pads instead of one and when you go to the bathroom just take the one pad off and the new one will already be on. and if two is too much all the girls in the bathroom know what you're going through so the noise won't really matter. hope i helped :)

Theres really no way to make it go any faster. You dont want to rush because if you rush, you run the risk of putting it in wrong and it will be VERY uncomfortable. Its better to take your time. I think if it really does take you that long, ask to go to the NURSE instead of the bathroom. Then tell the nurse that you need to use her bathroom to put in a tampon (She will understand.) About the noise - in my school, we turn the water on so it runs and blocks out noise when we go to the bathroom. It works.

I really don't know a way to be faster or quieter. But I do know that while it seems like it is obvious to the whole school and everyone is judging you, it just isn't like that. You are certainly not the only girl in your school who gets a period. The others probably have the same concerns. It also is probably not as noisy as you feel it is. It took me a long time to realize that. I do think tampons are quieter, and also more discreet, so I would probably stick with those at school. There are less crinkly parts to them. Other than that, just remember that every girl in your school will go through the same thing, so it really isn't something to worry about. It is certainly better than leaking through the pads and tampons (don't ask me how I know . . . )
