I had that same problem, but as soon as I quit, I wanted to start back up again, so I wouldn't quit yet. Finding a new teacher might help. If you're playing music that you don't enjoy, that will also make your interest level go down. Try some new, fun songs, songs that you know maybe from movies or something like that. Hope this helps !! Good luck !!

I had that problem. And I quit piano. But my parents forced me to play it. But I told them i didnt really like it anymore and i couldnt be wasting there money anmore. So i quit. Then a year later my younger sibling started playing piano and now shes still doing it. So if you have a younger sibling you could just teach them all the fun ways to play piano and they might just be interested. But I really think you should just give up because you just cant play and waste your parents money like that.

Hmm I've had a similar situation.
Maybe you've just lost interest?
I mean that could be the case and if it is, it's not a bad thing at all.
You don't have to like it forever.
Try new things!
You could play piano once in a while but you're probably sick of it.
Just get into new hobbies and maybe you'll be missing the piano?!

Good luck!

I used to be like this also.

I don't think it's the fact you think you're too old - you're never too old to be taking piano lessons and playing the piano.

I played for 5 years straight, and the reason I quit was because I didn't HATE it, I was just bored with it. I'm one of those types of people who can't do something every week, every year, continuously. I have to try something new or just stop because it always makes me feel like I'm in a rut. I tried to get out of lessons and everything, I didn't mind playing. I just didn't like all the lessons.

Also, for me, it was my teacher. We sort of... had a conflict between how I was playing and how she wanted me to play. I couldn't play with the way she wanted my fingers to move, so I figured "hey, if you want me to play, i'll do it my way."

So it could be that.

Try getting a new piano teacher and see how that goes. If you find you want to practice more and play more, it could've just been the teacher, but if you find you're still not liking it, maybe you're just bored with it or don't like it. And even though you don't WANT to quit, if you want to feel better about it, you should. You just might not be a quitter, but you can always play at home on your own time.

Maybe purchase a piano for home, of get a keyboard, like I did.

I still play at home on occasion and I'm so happy I don't have to go to those long, boring, lessons.

I hope I helped.

i also hate playing piano and ive been doign it for almost 6 years, but i dont want to quit, and i dont think you should either if youve done it that long.

i hate practicing, and i look for excuses to get out of it, but i would not want to quit.
you caNNOT be too old, ever

maybe its your teacher --> my sister had piano lessons with my teacher whos kinda strict, and hated them because of her. so then she got a younger, more relaxed teacher, and she began to like it better. i however like my strict teacher because she pushes me

I had the same exact situation last year, and I ended up quitting. What I decided was that it was getting old for me, and that I don't need lessons to play piano. If you've got the gist of it (which I think you do, considering you've been playing for seven years), you can probably quit lessons but still play in your free time.

I've been in a situation like yours. I play the harp, and after a few years I hated it. I despised practicing, thought my lessons were awful, and would do anything to avoid the harp.
I changed teachers, and I am so glad I kept up with my music- now I make $250 an hour playing for weddings, and I got a college scholarship!

Why don't you try switching teachers, and if that doesn't work, see if you can keep practicing and working on new music without a teacher. When you're older you will be so thankful that you didn't stop playing, so don't give up!

Hey,

I was in the same situation about a year ago and I chose to quit! But I have regreted it ever since and although I hated to practice I have now relized that I loved to do it. So don't make the same mistake I did and stick with it or you'll regret it in the long run.
