Question Posted Thursday September 28 2006, 7:33 pm
Im 13, and im a Chathlioc [sp?] Cristian. Well, in school, we went to Confessing. I told the preist all my sins, but one. I masturbate. I did'nt wanna just be flat out, I maturbate, because the priest is friends with my family. Is this wrong. As much as I love God and Jesus, I just can't say I maturbate. Is it a sin anyway?
fatalxheart answered Wednesday October 4 2006, 6:03 pm: Yes and no..
it's confusing and it really depends on how you interpert it.
Yes, because from what I've heard, anything that is self-pleasure is selfish. Is this what it says in the bible? Don't entirely take my word for it, but no.
No, because in the bible, one of the males 'spills' his sperm before sex which means he can not reproduce a child with his wife and somehow that is a sin.
Melody answered Wednesday October 4 2006, 12:37 pm: FYI; it's "Catholic, Christian, & Confession". Just so you know. :]
that's not my religion so i'm not really sure in what they believe in. i'm pretty sure though, that for all kinds of christians, masturbation is a sin. i don't see anything wrong with it though, but i'm not going to through my opinions in your face. but catholics HAVE to confess their sins during confession. it's part of the religion in general. if you can't bring yourself to do this, then maybe it's not the right religion for you. Forgiveness is there for you no matter what sin you commit. As long as you confess what you did and ask for forgiveness, you can be forgiven for anything and everything you do and not feel any guilt anymore. Even though the same forgiveness is there for murder as there is for masturbation, since you're gonna sin anyway, just be glad you're a masturbater and not a serial killer.
Since you are a Catholic, telling a preist your sins is a part of your religion. If you think it's more right and beneficial for you to just tell God yourself, then maybe Catholicism isn't the right religion for you. Other branches of Christianity don't involve confessions with preists and have generally the same beleifs. If you wanna stick with Catholicism, don't hold back. Get everything out. It's gonna be hard the first time, but once you get going, it'll get much easier for you. Good luck :) [ sizzlinmandolin's advice column | Ask sizzlinmandolin A Question ]
smirkingrevenga answered Friday September 29 2006, 1:36 am: Well it's a sin but I think only the most ridiculous, god-fearing priest will care that much. It's perfectly normal, and if you tell the priest he is REQUIRED to keep what you tell him a secret. If a man confessed a murder to a priest, he wouldn't be allowed to tell anyone. So don't worry about it if you must be fully honest in your confession [ smirkingrevenga's advice column | Ask smirkingrevenga A Question ]

It's NO ones business but yours. I mean if it really bugs you why dont you pray and tell god not tell the priest you know? i think you did the right thing. Hope i helped. Exquisitechick answered Thursday September 28 2006, 10:58 pm: Honestly, i dont think you had any reason to tell him. Masturbation is something VERY VERY personal && nobody reallly needs to know. Plus, youre only 13 i bet you would feel very very awkward telling this guy thats probably in his early 40s about what you do on ur personal time. Just talk to God alone and tell him that specific sin. I dont reeally consider it a sin though. But, yeah u get what im sayin. =]
NinjaNeer answered Thursday September 28 2006, 10:15 pm: Well, it all depends on your personal beliefs. Personally, I think that although the Bible makes for great guidelines, it should not be taken literally, since times have changed since it was written (Then again I'm an atheist...). The Catholic church has traditionally been against it, but religion is always open to interpretation.
If you want to see what the Bible specifically says about masturbation, check out this site... it's actually quite interesting.
