Hey! 14/f. I'm just wondering if anyone has every been through a situation like this: well I'm a freshman in HS now and I'm kinda worried about my lunch period. School hasn't started for me yet but I'm kinda concerned. My school starts at 7:15am, which means I'm going to have to eat breakfast before I go on the bus, which will end up being about 6:15-6:30 in the morning. My lunch period is going to be at 12:35pm. This means I will have to wait almost 6 hours to eat...and I'm kinda concerned because last year I could barely last 3-4 hours. Well I can't change my schedule or switch lunch periods, the school has already made it clear that we have to stick with the schedule they gave us. I just wanted to know if anyone had any ideas on what I can eat that will fill me up for 6 hours that I can prepare in the morning/or the night before school. Or any snacks I could jam in the hallway in-between classes. Thanks in advance!

Drag your breakfast out. Eat an apple or orange at the bus stop. If your allowed, on the bus would be even better.
Pack a something that is not high in sugar to eat in between classes, like a low-sugar snack (or meal replacement) bar. Those 100 cal snack packs make good mid-morning snacks, too. You can usually find them in chip and cookie aisles.
Finally, if you feel _really_ bad when you go that long without eating, see a doctor. You might have a small blood sugar problem that would allow you special permission to eat in class when you feel hungry or sick. [ cailoisa's advice column | Ask cailoisa A Question ]
curliecue answered Friday September 1 2006, 11:53 pm: Yeah, that's a tough one. My advice: eat plenty for breakfast, more than usual. Have a bowl of cereal, plus a piece of fruit, plus a cup of yogurt, plus half a bagel(Just an example, mix it up a little bit). I try to eat two servings of bread, a serving of fruit, and a serving of dairy on most mornings just because it seems to satisfy me for a long time. Eat your fiber for breakfast, it sits in your stomach longer (bread and fruit and veggies) and protien fills you up too (dairy products have quite a bit of protien). Then, pack a few snacks with you to school. Granola bar, energy bar, pretzels, crackers, popcorn, nuts, grapes, anything. Just keep those in your locker and grab some when you need a boost. Also, some teachers don't mind if you snack on something in class, as long as it doesn't make a mess. Most teachers will understand the situation, so if you just politely ask if its okay if you bring a snack to the class, they usually say yes. [ curliecue's advice column | Ask curliecue A Question ]
MelLeDisko answered Friday September 1 2006, 10:57 pm: I have this problem. My lunch period doesn't start till around the same time as you, but I find it a good thing. Because then by the time I have to eat, I'm starving so I eat whereas sometimes I barely eat any lunch. But if you really want to eat something during the day, pack a little bag of saltine crackers or graham crackers or a little piece of poptart in a baggie and keep it in there and just have a piece when you're on your way to the bathroom or your locker. I hope I helped. [ MelLeDisko's advice column | Ask MelLeDisko A Question ]
NoLies_JustLove answered Friday September 1 2006, 10:18 pm: Hey, I had a similar problem last year when I was a freshman. I had lunch at the very end of the day too. But, it's really not that bad once you get used to it. Last year, I would try to eat something other than just cereal, because cereal doesn't fill you up that much. Try eating oatmeal and maybe a piece of fruit. If you don't like oatmeal, try frozen waffles or pancakes that you can prepare easily. Try to avoid sugary breakfasts, like Poptarts, because they are really unhealthy and don't fill you up. It's kinda like the equivalent of eating a dessert for breakfast lol. The breakfast hotpockets are really good, too. As for eating in between classes, you can bring granola bars, rice crispy treats, or fruit snacks with you and eat them while walking down the hallway or put them in your backpack. You might be able to have a small snack in class, but it kinda depends on what teachers you have. Don't eat in class unless a teacher says it's okay. Good luck in high school. =) [ NoLies_JustLove's advice column | Ask NoLies_JustLove A Question ]
