Tampons- Tampons are insterted into the vagina to stop the blood exiting. Think it this way... When something is leaking, you must clog it so it can absorb it, well a tampon aborbs the blood. When you use a tampon, always put a tampon liner in your underwear to make sure if it leaks.
Pads- When the blood exits the body, it drips onto the pad and the pad aborbs the blood. Think it this way...water is dripping so you use a pail for the water to go into or you use a paper towl to absorb the water.
You choose what is more comfortable to use. When you start your period, first begin using pads. After your first, the next time, you can use Slim Fits tampons to begin. If you don't like the feeling, next time you have your period, try again only if you want to use a tampon. When I insert it, sometimes it hurts becuse of my cramps.

cherry01 answered Sunday August 20 2006, 8:24 pm: Pads i would recommend if you feel uncomfortable putting things inside of you. Although pads are rather annoying and you always feel wet down there, they are better to wear at night and just lay a towel under you so you wont have to worry about ruining your sheets. Tampons are inserted into your vaginia and you dont have to worry about the blood, but you really should not wear tampons at night to prevent infection.Tampons should be changed about every 4 hours depending on your monthly flow. If your sleeping, you can not change your tampon. [ cherry01's advice column | Ask cherry01 A Question ]
MummuM answered Sunday August 20 2006, 12:40 pm: Pads are good if you're just hanging out around the house. I don't think they're good for going out and about with friends and such. You're always worried about if you leaked or not and it feels like you're wearing a diaper. They're very uncomfortable and I prefer tampons over pads.
Tampons go inside your vagina, so there's really no mess with blood and what not. You're able to do everything you want to do; even go swimming. They're also great for when you go to sleep at night, you won't have to worry about leaking everywhere.
EDIT: Actually, I haven't put tampons in, in the past. I've just started wearing tampons. Before, I was scared to have a tampon in me. Now, I realize how comfortable they are, that's why I switch. Plus, the mess is gone, which is great! ♥ [ MummuM's advice column | Ask MummuM A Question ]

A tampon is hard to put in and uncomfortable at first, but it makes you feel more secure when you're in public b/c you know you aren't going to "leak". itsz_JESS answered Saturday August 19 2006, 7:46 pm: tampons- tampons go inside the vagina and personally, i think it works much better than the pads because pads are gross to sit in and such.. you could also go swimming in tampons and pads you cannot
orphans answered Saturday August 19 2006, 5:00 pm: tampons: good for swimming, sleeping, and extended use (but not over 8 hours, may cause tss, toxic shock syndrome, if you leave them in too long. you have to be responsible about remembering. they are better because less leaks happen. these are normally worn with an unltra thin pad and changed every 4-8 hours
pads: good for walking around the house, may have to be changed eveyr few hours. not too good for over night sleep, becuase you may leak. since you can feel the uh, wetness, its kind of gross because you feel self conscous and you are worried that you may get a leak
krazyismefosho answered Saturday August 19 2006, 3:18 pm: Tampons: Go INSIDE. If you put them in right, you can't feel them, cant see them, cant smell them and can swim and be acive with them.
Pads: You can leave them on as long as you want, and they sometimes feel like diapers.
I personally like tampons better because you can't really tell you're on your period until you change it (every 4-6 hrs, up to 8 hrs).
