I really really REALLY want to get my ears pierced. However, is it a problem that I've had them like....5 times before. Would they get really infected if I got them again? I also wanted to know if getting a piercing below the cartilage hurts. If I get it there, will it hurt?
Just listen to your ear. ^^ After doing some research, I concluded that I ought to:
1. drink 8 cups of water a day. Water has many functions in your body, and I am sure that one of them is healing? Lol.
2. eat one or two oranges per day (and/or other fruits... oranges worked for me). "Vitamin C is required for the growth and repair of tissues in all parts of your body." [Link](Mouse over link to see full location)
It also aids with the healing of wounds, which is what an ear piercing is, and helps your body to fight infections.
3. exercise a lil each day - go for a walk
4. spray on earcare - I did this 4 times per day
This will hopefully max your health, max healing time and thus min chances of infections. Just do everything you can to minimize the chances of infection - the key is determination. [ FallouiFalls's advice column | Ask FallouiFalls A Question ]
SoNuLiCiOuSsS answered Friday August 18 2006, 1:33 pm: It's not going to hurt, you probably keep gettin infected because you are probably allergic to nickel. You can either go to Claire's or Wal*mart and get earrings for sensitive ears. They say for sensitve ears at wal*mart, and at claire's they either say sensitive ears or nickel free. or you can wear only real gold and sterling silver [ SoNuLiCiOuSsS's advice column | Ask SoNuLiCiOuSsS A Question ]

She started buying more expensive earrings and kept them in alot more an cleaned them twice a day. If i were you id try one more time, and do something different with em, you never know! And of course it'll hurt, its a hole in your ear, but how bad, is up to your pain tolerance.
Notso answered Wednesday August 16 2006, 10:27 pm: if you've had your ears pierced 5 times in the same spot, then you are going to have some problems. Scar tissue might have built up, making it harder for the needle to go through. As long as you take care of them though, they shouldn't be getting infected. If you don't feel like wearing earrings all the time, make sure you just put an earring through your holes every once in a while so they don't close up and you have to get them repierced.
Below the cartilge should hurt just as much as a first hole would- not at all. However, to reduce the pain, and reduce your chances of infection go to an actual tattoo parlour. Ear piercing guns are fairly unsanitary, and not recommended. [ Notso's advice column | Ask Notso A Question ]
bitterxsweet answered Wednesday August 16 2006, 10:27 pm: naw its not a problem. jus keep em clean & take care of em and itll be fine. also, cartilage piercings dont hurt. its just a pinch when they pierce it then afterwards you cant even really feel it. i have both mine done & i even did the 2nd myself with a needle, so its not that bad. just try not to sleep on that side for a while and be rlly careful when you brush your hair and such.. itll rlly hurt if yer brush or anything gets caught on to it. And i have my cartalage peirced and yes it hurt when you got it but soon after it went away. But after you get it done putting pressure on that ear or laying on it will hurt for a awhile till you get use to it.
lianaliana1 answered Wednesday August 16 2006, 6:54 pm: For you're first question, I don't think it's a problem to get them pierced again as long as you clean it everyday, they are pierced with gold earrings (to not get infected) and keep them in for 6 weeks before taking it out. Under those conditions i think it's okay! :) and for the second question, I have my cartilage pierced and didn't feel a thing! But, then again, getting it pierced hurts differently for anyone, but if you really want it i'm sure it'll be worth the piercing. Hope this helps :)
lindsay00 answered Wednesday August 16 2006, 6:29 pm: you're probably allergic to the type of earings that you've been using. it doesn't hurt at all i've peirced my ears plenty of times and i used to have the same problem as you but now it's good =] i have my tracus (sp?) peirced too you know that little thing in your ear in the inside that kind of sticks out haha and i love it but that one kind of hurts =/ [ lindsay00's advice column | Ask lindsay00 A Question ]
TEENAGExHEARTS answered Wednesday August 16 2006, 6:27 pm: okay well i had the same problem. but i found something that works so my ears don't get infected anymore. i put "new skin liquid bandage" on them. it is a liquid that you would normally put on cuts, but i put it on the post of my earrings. this way the earring never actually touches your ear. i found this out because i knew somebody that had diabetes and this is what she did to keep her ears from becoming infected. this works really well for me, so it should work for you too :]
holahayley56 answered Wednesday August 16 2006, 4:43 pm: 5 times? You can only get the max like 3. Or, your gonna have serious ear infections. Thats what my doctor told me. I don't know though, because I always like forget to put earrings it. I haven't this whole summer. & then now, you actually just reminded me. hahaha & I could tell I went through some skin. I don't know. 5 times is alot though. Ask your doctor or the lady, that pierces the ears about it. & i'm sure piercing below the cartilage hurts. I don't have it done, but I can tottaly see it hurting.
BitsandPieces answered Wednesday August 16 2006, 4:37 pm: I don't have any way of knowing that for sure. You can reduce the chances of infection by keeping your ears and whatever touches them clean. They sell antibacterial products specifically made for piercings at the piercing facility itself. They can suggest the best for you. I used Bactine and it worked for me, but I can't promise anything. Good luck!
You could be creating a lot of scar tissue if the piercings are "healed" and the holes closed. The trouble is you cannot pierce or rather repierce through old scar tissue. I am not sure where exactly you want to pierce them, but the lobes are probably the least painful and easiest to heal. Maybe ask a few certified piercers to look at your ears. Get more than one opinion that it is safe before you proceed. Did your other piercings rip? That could be worse as far as more scar tissue build up. Make sure that you follow cleaning instructions perfectly and only go to a professional and sanitary certified piercer if you do go through with it.
