I had the same problem as you. My room was messy all the time. But then it all turned around. A few weeks ago I decided that I would clear my room. Literally! What you do is you take a lot of boxes or bags and gather everything out of your room and take it outside or in another room. Then you go through the boxes and only take back what you need. Then it's like starting with a clean slate (literally)! Even do it in front of the TV, or listen to music, or even invite a friend to help. That really works!
Good Luck!**

I have the sammeee exact problem as youu. I recently moved into a new room- and I realized how much junk I actually had that made my room a disaster. Try getting rid of all of the clothes you never or rarely wear, magazines, papers, garbage, etc. You'll realize how much neater it is after you get rid of all the junk. Next try to buy or find an organizer/shelf type of thing. I tried to find a picture but I couldn't find onee. I hope I helped ! :]

The best thing to do is to give your room about 5 minutes a day, and so cleaning won't be so stressful. This way the mess is never too huge.

Be merciless with your stuff. Don't organize junk, throw it out! If you haven't used it in a year, don't need it, or don't like it, throw it out or give it to the emergency closet. Good luck!

The problem with cleaning (especially cleaning a bedroom) is that it's VERY dull to do. So make it fun. I always used to go with the idea previously mentioned, of playing some music to clean up to. There is actually a CD that has been specifically put together for housework called "Housework Songs" and it's full of tunes that you can bop to while cleaning!

I also used to use cleaning as an opportunity to practise my bend and snap! You ever seen the film Legally Blonde? It may seem a little silly at first but when you're bending down to pick up half the clothes you left on your bedroom floor last week, it makes it a little more interesting!

If you don't feel like going the whole hog in one go, or if you want to try to maintain a clean room, try making sure that every time you enter and leave the room, you take at least 5 things that shouldn't be there out or put 5 things that should be there back in.

After all this, create a little schedule for yourself so that you allocate one specific day to mundane tasks like dusting, polishing and vacuming. If you can keep the mess away a little, you will find this takes only a few minutes.

Lastly, you need to find motivation to keep your room tidy. This is ALWAYS the hardest thing. For me, the motivation came from what I wanted my room to be. I looked in an Interior Decoration magazine and I wanted my room to look JUST like one of the pictures because it looked so beautiful and serene. So I cleared everything out of my room, redecorated it and then put the essentials back in. Afterwards, it looked so great that I couldn't BEAR to let it get messy! So if you think that might help, give it a shot.

Clean it very well, then whenever you are in your room just don't let things get messy. Prevent it.. Instead of letting clutter build up, just organise things while you are using them.
Also, cutting clutter helps a lot. Get shelves and containers to put your stuff in so that it won't be everywhere.

I liked Amanda's ideas for cleaning after the mess, if your like me though you also want to know how to avoid having such a huge clean up in the first place. I personally used to live like a slob and it would take hours and hours to clean it was a huge waste of a good weekend! What I do now, and I'll be honest its because my husband doesn't like a mess, is assign myself a different day to do different things in my room for example on Mondays I dust, Tuesdays I change my bedding, Wednesdays I pick the clothes up off the floor, on and on, make sure that you only put one little thing a night so that it takes maybe 20 minutes.

Hope this helps.

hey cleaning up is always a dreaded chore for me so i make it into something i enjoy. first: set the mood. turn on the radio or make a fun CD with dance music especially for room cleaning. now for the fun part: this is actually kind of corny but still fun. when cleaning my room i imagine i am doing an activity i like such as shopping or playing sports when i am actually picking up clothes and other various clutter. when i clean out my closet it is usually overflowing with clothes lying on the florr making it hard to close the door, and i haven't worn those clothes in a while, so what i usually do is pretend that i am shopping for new clothes. i make two piles: clothes to put away and clothes to get rid of since my style changes a lot and i like certain clothes sometimes and don't like them other times. then, i fold/hang up the clothes in the put-away pile, and put the other pile in a clean garbage bag. then i have a clothes-swap with my friends and we all recharge our wardrobes with eachothers' discarded clothes. when i am making my bed and changing my bedding i imagine i am in a furniture store and am making up the beds. silly things like that actually pass the time and make room cleaning up fun!! hope i could help

love always

xoxo amanda
