ok so my little brother is 9 years old and he always wants me to play with him. he doesnt understand that im older and have things to do. whenever i try to explain this to him, he gets upset and thinks i dont want to play with him so i feel really guilty. how can i explain to him that im busy a lot and dont really have that much time to play with him?
tjam106 answered Saturday July 29 2006, 4:59 pm: awww, it's so sweet that he wants you to play with him! He loves you! Always remember that, ok? Anyway, try to find just a little time for him. Find something you can do together...like video games or a TV show or something like that. Even if it's only 15 minutes, that 15 minutes will mean the world to him. I know it's not fun to play yugioh and bionicles and stuff like that when you're 15...what about sitting down together and doing a project? Make something, like a birdhouse or a treasure box. Or paint, even play doh can be fun. I know you have your own life...but don't ever be too busy for family. [ tjam106's advice column | Ask tjam106 A Question ]
SoNuLiCiOuSsS answered Saturday July 29 2006, 12:42 pm: well since he is a child explaining this to him is going to be hard. Just when you are busy doing something tell him exactly what you are doing rather than just sayin ur bzy. You dont have to go into detials, but if u are workin on a project tell him that you are doing homework and tell him you will play with him whenever you know you are available. try your best to spend time with him, and dont worry if you can't he will understand when he is older. askmex3 answered Saturday July 29 2006, 2:09 am: schedule little play date type things. maybe 30 minutes a day, or one whole day together during the week. just break up the time into sections, this way everything will be equal and organized. [ askmex3's advice column | Ask askmex3 A Question ]
StarryNightSkies answered Friday July 28 2006, 11:22 pm: You should set a play date or family night so you can hang out with him on that day all the time you can plan games and activities and arts and crafts to do with eachother at least until he grows out of the whole " i wanna play with my big sister 24/7" thing.
DancinCutie08 answered Friday July 28 2006, 10:51 pm: I would just be straight up with him. Let him know you love him but you are getting older and have other things to do. If he feels bad maybe if you ever babysit him allow him to have a friend over. one that is trust worthy so you can do your thing and they can do theirs. He wants you to feel guilty so you play with him and he is going to continue to do it. I would ignore him until he understands. Maybe you can try getting him a new video game or something too so that he isn't bored? Just make sure you don't ditch him all together [ DancinCutie08's advice column | Ask DancinCutie08 A Question ]
bitterxsweet answered Friday July 28 2006, 10:06 pm: you jus have to explain to him that you have alot goin on.. but talk to him and set a time when you two can play together -- then stick to that. its probably hard for him, especially if yall have been close in the past, & if so hes probably just upset because things are different and yall arent together as much. but as long as you get some time in with him, im sure things will be fine! betterthanyou_X3 answered Friday July 28 2006, 9:30 pm: Just because you're older than him doesn't mean that you can't play with him. I hang out with my little brother sometimes and it's fun because you get to act like a kid and have an excuse. It's very understandable that you're busy though. So set aside time to play with him when you aren't busy and promise him that you'll do it. Maybe turn it into a weekly thing. Like, every Thursday you guys do something together. Good luck!
