Algebra/Geometry.

Question Posted Saturday July 22 2006, 11:26 pm

Last year I took Algebra 1, and I sucked at it, but it wasn't me, it was the teacher. At the end of the year she ended up passing everyone in my class by one or two points, probably to make herself look good, because we were all failing miserable. Point is, I'm still moving onto Geometry next year..but I know absolutely nothing about Algebra 1, I didn't get anything out of that class. My mom will be getting me a tutor outside of school & I have notes on Algebra 1 now. But my question is, is Geometry harder than Algebra 1? Or is it similar? Does it deal with Algebra 1 alot/at all? Thank you.

Geometry is hardly anything like Algebra 1. It deals a whole lot with shapes and finding the other side. However, when you pass Geometry and are going into Algebra 2 that's when you need the first part. I had a horrible Algebra 1 teacher and I'll be taking Calculus this year. It's not like the end of the world or anything. It'll be okay. :]

i did good in algebra and sucked at geometry. usually if you do good at one then you won't do good in the other! geometry has little algebra in it so i think you should do great.

im going to tha tenth grade and i took algebra in the 8th grade and geometry in tha 9th . its going to seem harder because youre taking it early and you didn't get anything from algebra. the teacher normally goes over the stuff from algebra just as a review befor you use it. if you have a problem you can always ask tha teacher. $ JAZZIEPINK_09$

hey i did algebra 1 in 7th grade. and i did geometry in 8th. im going into 9th now. geometry was hard. i found both of them hard. but i think thats because i was 12 when i did algebra one. so im not sure if you will think its hard. its a whole different ball game. its not too difficult so dont worry! i wouldnt say it was much harder than algebra 1

i've heard that if a student doesn't do well in algebra i, they excel in geometry... and vice versa. i'm sure it's possible to be good at both, but from what i've heard, algebra and geometry are very different.

Dear, math headache I suck at math too always been the lowest..as far as Geometry goes it's acually alot eaiser plus you may have had the wrong teacher back then..if you get a good teacher that will be willing to help you there should be no problem.Geometry more revolves around fractions anyway ^^ Your friend, Violet

i barely made a B in Algebra 1, but i made an A in geometry. it really depends on your learning style, geometry is much more visual. i would say there is very little if any algebra 1 in there, and if so its very basic.
basically geometry is everything you learned in elementary school (triangles, rectangles, squares, blah blah blah)...
the only math class i ever made an A in
watch out for algebra 2 it sucked

Not very much Algebra 1 is used in Geometry, BUT at least half of the year in ALgebra 2 is review from Algebra 1. It's worthwile to get a tutor.

I loved both Algebra 1 and Geometry.

In Geometry, no algebra is used whatsoever. The tests and homework in Geometry usually don't even have numbers. You will learn almost everything about every shape there is. Every chapter, you have to memorize about 5 rules (they are very easy rules). You must remember these rules! You use the rules to prove (or disprove) that a statement is true. For example, one test question might be a picture of a triangle (I'm being very basic). Under the triangle, you are given facts, like "This angle is the same size as this angle". Then, under THAT, you are asked to prove something, like "Prove that this side is the same length as this side". It's very hard to explain with words. Sorry! But no numbers are used unless to give you an angle measurement or the length of a line.

Nothing to fear. It's easier than algebra if you don't like math.

geometry doesn't require an extensive knowledge about algebra 1. so i don't think that you should stress too much about it. hopefully you get a more qualified teacher next year. but after you take geometry you will probably have to take algebra 2..so i think the tutor would be a good idea because it will give u a strong basis that you will need in algebra 2. =]]] hope i helped.

Hardly any Algebra is used in Geometry, so there's a chance you can be even better or worse at Geometry. Geometry mainly deals with postulates, theorems, & angles. I think you should do perfectly fine if you have a tutor & keep good notes. When I took Algebra 1, I think I passed with a 93%. & when I took Geometry, I passed with an 83%. It all depends on how your teacher teaches grades & how hard you work for your grade. But to give you a heads up - most people aren't very good when they hit Geometry. But to do good in that class, I think all it takes is good notes, more studying, & your full attention in class. Atleast that's how it was for me.

Well I liked Algebra better but Geometry is easier if you keep up with what's going on. The things you learn at the start of the year, you'll need at the end. But if you keep your notes and such, it won't be a problem at all.

Geometry has some Algebra in it but not much. You'll just need it to figure out equations like, if this half of the segment is 2x+7 and the other half is 5x-3, how long is the segment?

They should go over the Algebra with you a little and since you have the extra help, you'll be fine. Just make sure you ask questions the second you don't understand something.

High school geometry doesn't really require you to have any algebra skills. You'll probably only do proofs, logic, and conic sections. The only knowledge of algebra you will need for that is how to solve quadratic equations (for conic sections).

I had alot of problems with algebra 1. Like also failing terrribly. Last year i took geometry and passed with flying colors. Theres a little bit of algebra in geometry. But according to the teacher if you had problems with algebra geometry will go great. but if you did well in algebra you wont do so hot in geometry.
