mkay. well i'm dark brunette and once i got red highlights done professionally, however they turned blonde and it looked like shit. but if your face is right,it would look good, it depends on your face. if you decide to do it you might also want to dye your eyebrows the same color lol.

I'm a dark brunette as well and blonde would definitly NOT work for me. If you do dye your hair blonde, you might have to dye your eyebrows as well. But going from dark brunette to blonde is a drastic change. My suggestion would be to go a natural blonde color. Maybe dark blonde or strawberry blonde. No platinum blonde, that looks cheesy and unnatural. But profesionally done is the way to go. I don't think swimming will ruin it. But remember: blonde hair in chlorine makes the hair temporarily turn green. (if you're in there for too long) Good luck with your dye job! Hope this helps!

Good idea getting it done professionally.

You can't go directly to platnium blonde, though. You have to work your way there getting lighter every time you dye.

Ask your beautician and they'll tell you the drill.

Why? Dark hair is so pretty! I adore mine! -ahem- Maybe you'd like to see what you'd look like first, like a preview? Maybe that would give you a better focus. Go to www.clairol.com and go to the Try-it-On Studio. It's a blast seeing what you'd look like with different colors and styles. Bear in mind, like everyone else said, the transfer from one extreme (brown) to the other (blond) might not work. Best to ask your stylist or local hairdresser.

ADDED TODAY:

No, the clairol thing is absolutely free, and that's why I love it! Go ahead and try it! It's got everything...highlights, styles, colors...all you do is scan in your own picture (they don't show it to anyone, it's on your own account) and start trying it on! Let me know how it works!

Very, very, very bad idea. I know lots of people who have tried it...if your hair is darker than light brown, it will turn your hair orange. Try some highlights instead.

I also have dark brown hair and I have tried to go blonde, two different colors and it didn't work out. Actually it was completely awful!!! I hated it and everyone around me hated it.
If you want to go lighter try a lighter brown.
Swimming at the beach won't ruin it. I have heard if you have blonde hair Chlorine changes it to a green color, but from what I have seen and my own personal experiances it doesn't.

Just my own experience of seeing girls with dark hair go blonde, I don't think it'd be a smart choice. Really dark hair to blonde hair I think is too big of a change and not to mention your eye brows will still be brown and that doesn't look too good.

What I would suggest is first get some light brown and dark blond hi-lights. It's not too drastic and it'll still look good. Then, you can gradually get lighter if you wanted to until you get to a dark dirty blonde. As long as it isn't a full out bleach blonde or something, I think it'll be okay.

Something else if you'd like to try is dark strawberry blonde hi-lights. I got those for a while and they looked pretty good.

As for the beach, do you mean ruin the color? Dyes fade over time as you wash your hair anyways and the beach won't make that much of an impact. But I think chlorine turn blonde hair greenish (from what I've heard from blonde friends and such) so if you swim in a pool, make sure you shampoo right after.
