Going for an MRI scam

Question Posted Friday July 7 2006, 8:36 pm

I have an injured jaw (with an unknown cause) and I have to go in for an MRI scan. Has anyone else gone for one? How long do you usually stay? (in the machine) I guess. Haha if you could please tell me about your experience it would be greatly appreciated! THANKSSS! :)

I had one around 6 years ago for a bad hip problem.

You have to take off literally everything you are wearing that is made of metal, because the machine is basically like a big magnet.

When you go in, it's a really long tube type thing and you have to lie perfectly still. I was in there for around 2 hours, but that was because I accidentally moved during one of the 'photos' and it came out blurred. You usually get given a set of headphones to put on because the machine is REALLY loud and they play music so you have something to occupy you.

It's not too bad to be honest and even though I was in there for ages in the end, it went by really fast. The best thing you can do is shut your eyes, focus on the music and try not to move. It'll be over before you know it.

I had one of those when I had my BIKE VS CAR accident (car hitting bike) and I had to have my head checked, it took about 10 minutes or less for me, it didnt hurt at all, it was kinda scary being there, but just relax and do what they say, its not that bad! No pain involved, unless you have like broken bones or something.. because broken bones hurt in general. Buy yeah dont worry about it :)
Hah, they also gave me the ex ray of my brain. it was kinda cool, yet creepy.

Good luck sweetheart!

I've had two MRI's in my life. I had my whole head done twice after a concussion, and I was probably in the machine for 15-20 minutes. Since it's just your jaw, they don't need to take it from as many angles, and you might be out in even less time.

As for the overall experience, it wasn't scary, uncomfortable, or anything bad like that. It's actually an interesting experience.
