Why is it that this is turning into a site for just teenagers? All they know about is boys, and sex, and makeup, and periods, and discharge, and tampons, etc. Why aren't there more sensible people here?
The questions reflect the needs of the people who ask them. If teenagers need advice on boys and makeup, they can ask for it here. Relevant answers will be given by people who have answers. This doesn't mean that those things are all teenagers know about. It just means that they need advice on those things.

THERE ARE. Open your eyes. There are plenty of people on this site who are very sensible and very mature. Check out the "Browse Columnists" page. At least half of those people are very respectable teenagers.
Why are there a lot of the crap questions on this site? I've been on here for three and a half years, and there's ALWAYS been the crap questions. But just because the questions are bad doesn't mean the columnists are. You can't judge the ENTIRE site based off of a few questions. That is ignorant and flat out stupid.
Do I know about sex? Heck no. Do I know about makeup? Uhm, no. Do I know about periods? No. Do I know about discharge? No. Do I know about tampons? No.
Mostly I don't know about them because I'm a guy, but my point is, that's not all teenagers know. I know a lot of things. Like Chemistry, Biology, Physics, Literature, Spanish, History, Religion, Technology, Calculus, Algebra, Trigonometry, Geometry, Journalism, and a whole array of other subjects that have nothing to do with these stereotypical topics you think teenagers know about, and nothing else.
You are ignorant. Rate me a 1. I don't care. If you took the time to actually explore the site, you would realize that there are meaningful questions asked ALL the time, there are many mature teenagers, and there are so many things other than your blurred view of the site.
christina answered Friday August 7 2009, 7:20 pm: I think I should start off by asking you a question.
Why is it that you think that every teenager is an idiot who knows nothing about life except periods and sex and boys/girls & makeup? Why can't a teenager know about more stuff than that?
Not every teenager asks about stuff like that. Not every teenager is limited to knowledge about just those topics. I'm 18 and I can bet that I'm smarter than you'll take me for.
It isn't fair of you to generalize teens as a group of people who know nothing about life. I've been through a lot during my life and I know my concerns in life happen to be none of those. Right now, my problems are about college, my job, and making it on my own.
I've browsed columnists on this site a lot, and I can honestly say that there are a lot of interesting, and very intelligent teens on this site.
You cannot sit there and generalize the whole site (or teenagers) into one group just because someone who was younger than you upset you. If you're going to be butthurt about stupid things such as this, then you need to go somewhere else. Your question is insulting and makes you seem like you're of a lower intelligence. You may be older, but you're lacking when it comes to intelligence. And I don't care if that offends you. Take your ignorance somewhere else. [ christina's advice column | Ask christina A Question ]

It's just that this site makes it easy to ask those kinds of questions, and those questions come up a lot. Asking about them doesn't make us insensible in any way.
Darby answered Friday August 7 2009, 5:39 pm: There are probably a few reasons why this site has mostly teenagers on it.
First of all, teenagers browse things like this more often than I would assume adults would. When they have questions about sex, boys, periods, ect.. they search advice on the internet and this site pops up.
Maybe you haven't noticed that most of the questions are about sex, boys, makeup, periods, ect.. According to you, that's all teenagers know about. So, in turn, isn't this site perfect for teenage advicenators?
As far as teenagers being sensible, I'm seventeen and would consider myself to be more than fairly sensible. I've also seen a lot of columnists on here that give good advice, use correct grammar/spelling, and clearly know about more than the few things you mentioned in your 'question'.
rainbowcherrie answered Friday August 7 2009, 5:13 pm: I'm a teenager and I'm pretty sure I know about a fair few more things than boys, sex, makeup, periods, discharge and tampons. Like Laura below me, I know I'm not the only one on here. Having said that, I do know ALOT about those things..because they're pretty central to the female teenage life.
I've been on this site for five years and it's ALWAYS had a lot of teenage users. Why? Because teenagers are going through the most distressing and turbulent experiences they've ever had. As an adult, you learn that getting your heart broken isn't the end of the world and how the body works.
I was fairly lucky in my upbringing that my Mum was incredibly open and honest with me and answered all the questions I had about sex and puberty, but many don't have the same experience. Although it's easy to look down on a 13-year-old for wanting to know what's going on with her body when it starts white fluid from embarrassing areas, imagine how she must be feeling, having absolutely no idea what's wrong with her.
Personally, I feel that answering those naive and ill-informed questions we see on this website IS the sensible option. We're here to give advice and answer questions for people who don't know where else to go for help. Of course it's tedious to see the same questions repeated time and time again but there ARE 'better' ones, you just need to look for them. The moderators do a great job of rating questions, which means that the less-than-brilliant ones tend to be quickly removed.
As for people GIVING advice, yes, there are some stupid answers from people who don't really know what they're talking about. Think you can do better? Then correct them. For truly terrible advice, we have an abuse report system. I happen to be a L2 moderator, which means I deal with these reports and I can assure you we do deal with those giving incorrect or dangerous advice.
So yes, in short, there are a lot of teenagers on here. It's nothing new and they certainly aren't all stupid and narrow minded. There are plenty of 'sensible' people here, see my favourite columnists list for a small selection. You are welcome to make up better questions to encourage a bit more maturity on the website if you still feel it necessary. [ rainbowcherrie's advice column | Ask rainbowcherrie A Question ]
LOL_x0x answered Friday August 7 2009, 4:17 pm: Oh hi, I'm a teenager and I'll have you know that I know a lot more than you think. I'm not some stupid idiot who only knows about boys and tampons. I'm completely sensible and you really offended me with this.
Just because you might be older does not mean you're smarter. Judging by your lack of research on this site's teenage columnists, I'd say you're not the brightest crayon in the box. I mean no offense by that comment, I just am very upset that you would post something like this and insult me and probably my friends, too.
I could give you an entire list of columnists my age, on this site, who are brilliant minds that would blow you away. I've made a few friends from this site, and I consider all of them to be intelligent and extremely sensible people. Therefore, I have no clue where this opinion of yours is coming from.
So next time, let's not insult the site just because you maybe got a bad answer from an immature 13 year old. Kay, thanks, bye!

surferchick16 answered Friday August 7 2009, 3:20 pm: Actually that is not true. I am a teenager, and I could talk to you about anything, faith, school, and even the economy. It is just unfair for you to say that were just teenagers. I for one believe that I am sensible, so you message me about something you want to talk about, and we'll talk about it.
