Keosha answered Tuesday July 25 2006, 1:16 pm: They have a system called WIC. Which pays for certain foods while your pregnant and after your pregannt i think until your child is up to 5 years old. They give you a WIC check and it pays for eggs and milk and cereal and juice and stuff but you can only get a certain kind of product and publix usually has the signs which will tell you what WIC items u can buy. You must apply for this. Try your local health dept. Also the health dept is free and they also have Pregnancy crisis centers which will help you with pre-natal care. I hope I helped!

If you don't like my advice- be honest and say as much. Because, to be quite frank, I like to know that someone thinks my advice is good, but I'm not here for a rating. I give an honest answer and you can take it or leave it, because ratings shouldn't be a reason for people to help others. I don't really care if someone likes my advice or not.
Now. About your situation...
You should apply for a state medical card. That will pay for all of your expenses, even if you are under 18. BUT you have to have a paper from the doctor or the health department that says you are pregnant before they will give you a medical card.
You should do that, and GO TO A DOCTOR! If you go to the doctor before you get your card, it should cover any doctor visits 3 months prior to when you applied. At least it does here in Kansas, and probably every other state as well.
You can go to your local SRS office or your county health department. They will help you get the medical you need. Also, the health department can get you WIC assistance so you can get the nutritional foods you need. (Milk, cereal, juice, eggs, etc. Then when the baby comes, formula and stuff the baby needs.)
You said that you approached a columnist... Was it me? I got a inbox notice, but when I went there, it said I didn't have any unanswered questions. So- if it was me you asked, that's why I never answered.
If you want, get ahold of me and I will do what I can to help you. I suggest you get ahold of my by way of my email address so you know I get the message, and so we can correspond a little easier. I can try to look up some information for you, but you will have to at least tell me what state and county you live in so I can get you accurate information.
Sadie63341 answered Sunday July 16 2006, 10:45 pm: www.birthright.org can help you with pregnancy-related things. They can also help you get a crib and baby clothes when your baby gets here. Sign up for state health insurance. Here in Missouri it's called Medicaid. They take a bunch of information from you and you're approved automatically as long as you don't make too much. I'm assuming since you're on your own you don't. I hope this helps, prenatal care is VERY important. Go buy some prenatal vitamins from Wal-Mart. A bottle lasts a while and it's only like $6. Take 2 a day unless it says otherwise on the bottle. That will help a lot until you can get prenatal care. Good luck. [ Sadie63341's advice column | Ask Sadie63341 A Question ]

EarthMother answered Thursday June 8 2006, 3:09 pm: Dear Prenatal Care:
All states have medical assistance programs for folks with low, or no, income called "Medicaid." Call your local Information & Referral, or Social Service, agency for the 411 on where theses services are located in your area. You will have to apply, which means filling out multiple forms; and, if you need help doing this, ask for it.
All states have a Medicaid program, although it might be called something different in your state. For example, in California Medicaid is called: Medi-Cal, and in Arizona it's called: AHCCCS. Also, ask about the WIC (Women, Infant & Children) program too.

kristen22 answered Wednesday June 7 2006, 3:22 pm: Go to your local Health Department. If your under the age of 18 the state pays for EVERYTHING. My sister goes there to get birthcontrol and she has never had to pay a dime. [Link](Mouse over link to see full location) at the top of the page type in your city, state and zip and that'll tell you where your local health department is.

toll-free 1-800-230-PLAN or 1-800-230-7526 to ask medical questions, or to schedule an appointment with the Planned Parenthood health center nearest you.
Tulipg17 answered Wednesday June 7 2006, 2:34 pm: Go to planned parenthood, they will have the information you need. Most likely you will need to get approved for low income state provided insurence for the term of your pregnancy but the rules are different state to state. They will tell you exactly what you need to do. Just show up, no need for an appointment.
