karenR answered Thursday June 1 2006, 2:52 pm:
Recent international research indicates that male condom breakage ranges from zero to 12 percent, with many of the US-based studies falling in the two to five percent range. The percent of condoms that slip off the penis during or after intercourse is in a similar range.

I read somewhere in a study of 50 fertile couples where condoms were the only method of birth control used, 8 women got pregnant. None of the men did. So your chances are about 16% of it breaking.

LOL I love these idiots telling you there is a 90%+ chance of a condom breaking. Why would anyone ever buy them if they did? How could they leaglly sell them? Condoms hardly ever break babe, just make sure you use the correct size and he knows how to put it on.

Well they usually have a 98% chance of working according to the condom makers. So theres obviously a 2% chance of it breaking, or just not working.

loves2shop86 answered Tuesday May 30 2006, 5:31 pm:
Hey! aahhh ok there is deffinitely NOT a 90 percent chance that a condom will break (response below mine)! That would mean that out of 100 people using a condom, 90 of them will end up with a broken one and as a result possibly get pregnant! Condoms are 97% effective... meaning that 97 out of 100 times, IF they are USED CORRECTLY they should collect all the sperm and not lead to a pregnancy. That means that the chance of a condom breaking is 3%!! If the condom is too small on the guy or if it is placed incorectly, there is a higher change that it will break. Also, if there isn't enough lubrication, the condom can break as well from the friction.

So what should you do? Read all the information on the back of the condom and know how to use it! Check the package before opening it to make sure there are no holes or rips anywhere (if there are, throw it away). If the condom is too small or too big on the guy, don't use it! use a lubricant to make sure there is less friction... make sure to use a WATER based lubricant that won't dissolve the latex condom! if the lubricant is ok to use with condoms, it WILL say on the back of the package! if it doesn't say... don't use it! When placing the condom on the guy, make sure to leave about half an inch to an inch in the front for the sperm to collect, and squeeze the tip while placing it on to make sure there are no air bubbles which can cause it to rip more easily!

to be extra safe, you may want to use spermacide... but be careful because it is irritating to a lot of people. or try and get on the pill... they are up to 99.7% effective if they are used correctly! let me know if you need more help!
