Question Posted Sunday May 14 2006, 3:41 pm

(14/f)
What is the age ( or around the age) that you have to start getting your vagina examined by a doctor?

Can the doctor tell if you've have sex before? Would the excuse "I pushed a tampon in too far" work?

Are doctors allowed to tell your parents you've been having sex if you dont want them to?

You already have some really good info from other users. I just want to point out that the BEST time to see a doctor is BEFORE you become sexually active. Not just when you become sexually active. I know most don't do it that way but its the ideal time. I would suggest anytime after age 16 unless you become sexually active before that.

The doctor will ask probably before the exam, if you are sexually active. It is simply so they can give you information and answer questions you may have. They will not judge you one way or the other so be honest.

Once you become that doctors patient he/she will not discuss your sex life with your parents. They will know of any tests you have if they have insurance paying for the visit, but they should all be routine tests. Any talking you do or questions you ask though will remain private between you and your doctor.

Most girls can get away safely with waiting until they've become sexually active.

The doctor cannot tell for sure if you've had sex. For your own safety, do not lie about it. With the decision to have sex, comes the responsibility to keep your body healthy. If you aren't mature enough to do that, keep your pants on.

To answer the last question, no.

It depends on the doctor. Some recommend you start having exams once you start your period. Most others recommend you start when you become sexually active. If you are sexually active, I'd recommend you start the yearly exams as they can pinpoint problems that affect your fertility and your health.

The doctor should be able to tell if your hymen is intact or not, but not how it was broken. If they do ask, I would recommend being honest. A sexually active female needs different tests than one that isn't sexually active.

The Medical Confidentiality Act says that the doctor can't share any information about you unless you give your permission. If they do so without your permission, it's illegal. If you tell the doctor not to say anything, then by law they're required to keep any details to theirself.

i went and i1m 15 and my doctor told me that i was to young to get examined, she said the age is 18 that they usually start examining unless you think you have something wrong, thats another story.

they can`t tell if you`ve had sex, but they can tell you if you`re cherry has popped, but it coulda popped from playing a sport or wearing a tampon.

no, doctors are not allowed to tell your parents unless you say that they can, everything is confidential.

best of luck =]

There's no set age, but if you have had sex, you really should have them look. What if you have cervical cancer? Wouldn't it suck to not know about that?

Since you would probably tell them before hand that you wanted to be examined because you've had sex, they would know that you have had sex. Besides that, you do NOT want to ever lie to your doctor. If you have an STD, but you told them that you were a virgin, they might think it was something else. It would be a waste of time and money--YOUR time and money--and if they don't treat the STD, you're in huge trouble. Also, it's just better to always tell the truth.

And if you tell the doctor not to tell your parents, they are legally obligated to keep your secret.

you can see a doc anytime you feel the need, and anything you tell him will be COMPLETELY confidential by law.

you should be upfront and honest when you visit him, as the questions he'll ask you are all health-related and important. you have nothing to be ashamed of, and the visit will be more beneficial if you tell the truth.

really, you can go to a gyno anytime you feel the need or want to. theres really no SET age. just when you need to. im not sure whether or not the doctor can tell if you have had sex or not. im pretty sure theres a sheet you fill out and it asks if your sexually active or have been. but, i doubt that the tampon excuse would work. because they are professionals and know what they are doing. and if you tell the doctor that you dont want your parents knowing, then no they are NOT allowed to do that. its a relationship or bond that a doctor has with a patient. you can ask or tell your doctor anything and everything. and they wont be able to tell your parents [unless they feel you are in danger for your life or something]. but i really suggest you not having sex at 14. thats really early. you shouldnt be having sex unless you'd be comfortable with telling your mom/dad about it. what if you got pregnant? at 14. thats just kinda crazy. but its not my place to judge.

hope this helps!! :] ♥
