Would you give somebody a rating like a 1 if for an example you wrote something to try to help the questioner person but somebody below told them the say thing but in different words?

I wouldn't, but here is my reasoning: When I answer a question, I don't read any other of the columnest's advice because I don't want it to effect what my advice would be, you know? But I only give advice if there is only 1 or 2 people that have answered, or if it is directly in my inbox.

I understad your dilemma because it isn't fair if people are just copying someone else's answers and getting a 5 because of it. Unfortunately, you don't know whether the person looked below or not. So they may have given you great advice, but someone else said something very similar before them, and then they are getting a rating of 1, even if they deserve a rating of 5, which isn't really fair to them.

It's really your decision because you're the one who asked the question.

Hope I helped!

Hi

Personally I feel that if someone has given you good advice, whether you've heard it before or not, should be rated fairly.

I quite often won't read the other answers (you can bet your butt I will now!!!) I know myself, when I answer a question, I do it because I care, and I don't think that should be punished because I didn't read the other 10 replies.

Even if the answers are similar, they will be different in some aspects, and the person asking the question may get something out of one answer that they didn't in the others.

Just my two cents.

Brenda

I'd give them a 2 myself or a 3.

The reason it was changed to show the answers to the questions BEFORE you answer is to avoid this very thing.

If enough people start rating correctly, perhaps people will read whats already been said and we can avoid all those repeat answers.

A few 2's and they will start reading.

Just be sure and note the time. Don't give someone a 2 if they answered at about the same time as the one before them did. Their answers may have overlapped. I'd give 15 minutes between same answers for dropping the rating.

No. I doubt that many of the time advice givers even look at the other advice given. I for one don't. I just answer it best I can.

no!! not at all! rate the advice not the fact that someone already said the same thing before! a lot of times the advice that can be given for a problem is the same... so of course there will be repeats! not to mention that a lot of people don't read all teh answers before they answer a question! so basically, rate the advice individually, not according to what everyone else said to answer the question!
