This is for people in high school. Sorry if it's long but I'll rate all 5s && give feedback! When you go into high school from middle school, does everything change alot? && Also, do you loose a lot of friends/do a lot of people change/is there a lot more work?? I'm just really nervous for high school && that everythign's gonna change I know high schools "the best years of our lives" but Im scared so if you guys could tell me your expierences with it && if you loose your old friends/best friends && everything changes && how it changes. Thanks. I will rate you all fives promise! &♥; dayna.
I actually didn't have a hard transition at all. Yes, I did lose friends, but I made SO many new friends that it all works. Everyone that I know has changed in some way. Like, all of my friends understand that, and no one in my friend circle has changed drastically.
I'm a freshman, and I don't think that there's a lot of work, but it depends on your courses/teachers. I have about 20-30 minutes of homework on average every night.
High school has been amazing so far, and I'm excited beyond words for this upcoming year. Make sure that you join clubs//sports//activities, though. I'm in choir this year and it's the best thing that's ever happened to me. Seriously.
I have made more guy friends, and I still have most of my girl friends. High school, I think, is when boys start to grow up and girls start to come into their own nd develop their own sense of beauty//style. I know i have.
SeriousAsAHeartAttack answered Monday May 8 2006, 1:41 am: Honestly..YES. Everything changes. i didnt think it was. Depending on how big your city is and how many schools you have, then yeah alot can change. alot of my friends went to dif. highschools, the work does get harder, because what you do in highschool reflects on what kind of college you can get into, wich is VERY IMPORTANT. I lost 3 of my best friends, but i still do have fun with my other friends at my current school. Highschool is very fun though! A whole year has almost gone by and ill be a sophmore..crazy to think that a year ago i was asking the same questions as you! Dont be scared, itll turn out ok, just like the transition from grade (elemtary) school to middle school. GOOD LUCK! And feel free to ask more questions. :D [ SeriousAsAHeartAttack's advice column | Ask SeriousAsAHeartAttack A Question ]
Mr_Skittles answered Wednesday April 19 2006, 12:01 am: I noticed a change in popularity status. In middle school you know who is popular and who isn't. In high shcool that image will dissipate and soon it'll be just you and your friends. You won't know who is popular and who isnt. [ Mr_Skittles's advice column | Ask Mr_Skittles A Question ]

I have lost a few friends because they wanted to be cooler. But i have also gained alot of cool friends and betterones. So things cahnge but if you stay true to yourself then ecrything will be fine.
IN high school there is alot more work becuase you ahve to work yourself up to college.
At first i was nervous but after the first month its the same thing..
Try not to be soo nervuos and don't take in to peer pressure. be yourself.
am-bur answered Saturday April 15 2006, 2:19 pm: ewll im a freshie right now! and i thought the same questions when i was in 8th grade!!
i have lost some friends! and i have also grown closer to people who i used to no like in middle school!
stay close with your really good friends!
and high school is the itme when people GROW up. there still might be drama and stuff but im sure you'll make more friends then lose some!
some people will change like i said there growing up being more mature and stuff
and it depends on your classes! like we have block scedule so i only have 4 classes a semester! i dont really get that much homework! but i no people who do! so it depends on the classes an teachers
and please dont screw up your freshman year! i did.. and i failed some classes for that! which sucks! just seriosly do like all your work! because they normally dont give make-up work in high school
pootietang answered Saturday April 15 2006, 11:32 am: Personally, I had more homework in middle school than I ever did in high school. But that's just me. In high school, the work load is about the same (maybe a tad bit more) than middle school. Class is more boring because you take notes more often than you did in middle school.
In high school you also do lose some friends. =( I had TONS of friends leaving middle school, but about a quarter of them I still talk to. But I met a lot of new friends and yeah. Highschool is so fun. But caution: everything you say about someone WILL get to that person. And never tell someone who you like because they WILL tell! You can't trust anyone in high school.
Yes lots of people change in high school. One of my shy friends is now one of the most popular girls in school, which ticks me off but whatever. People start to label more ("goths", "preps", "skater", "nerds", "emo").
One thing you need to remember is that the meanest people you will ever meet will be in your high school. Believe me! No, not all people are mean, but the ones that are have completely no respect for anyone, and if one of them is against you, they all are.
Don't worry about high school. It goes by incredibly fast =( I remember freshman year like it was yesterday and now I'm about to be a junior. Make the most of it. [ pootietang's advice column | Ask pootietang A Question ]
GwinnCheer2006 answered Saturday April 15 2006, 11:01 am: Hey i just transfered from middle school to highschool a year ago. So im a freshman. Somethings change, but its not as bad as everyone says it is. You dont loose alot of friends, it also depends on who you are. I hang out with a different group of friends now then what i did in middle school. It all depends on the teachers if you get alot of homework. I think that the homework stays the same. Dont be that nervous its actually not as bad as everyone says it is. Trust me! let me know how it goes &&hearts Ashley [ GwinnCheer2006's advice column | Ask GwinnCheer2006 A Question ]
itsz_JESS answered Saturday April 15 2006, 10:53 am: 1. yes middle school and high school is really different and you have much more freedom and teachers usually dont bother you as much
2. i once had this best friend that i was really close with in 8th grade but now she has new best friends because over the summer she started hanging out with them constantly so we arent as close as before but were still good friends.. some of your friends may change and some may not.. over the summer is when you usually lose touch with friends because you dont see them as much like in school but since you wont have school over the summer, you could hang out with them more so you guys are still good friends if you know what i mean
3. theres nothing really scary about highschool other than getting lost, but even if you lose some of you old friends from middle school, you can always get new friends and meet new people! it worked for me
vermillion26 answered Saturday April 15 2006, 6:32 am: It varies from school to school and from person to person. You might lose friends, it really depends on how hard you work to keep them. If you are going to the same high school then you will most likely be together for the first few months and then find your own friends. Thats not what happens all the time, though. I had a good friend from middle school and when we went to the same high school we stayed good friends. We simply made new mutual friends. If you are going to different high schools then I think much depends on how close you are to begin with. I have a friend who I was very close with before high school, we went to different schools and we are still pretty close.
People do tend to change in high school, there are so many different people and oppourtunities. Don't be hurt if friends begin to hang out with a new crowd, its most likely nothing personal. You will probably change as well. You will find new friends and hopefully keep some old ones. Seriously, high schools tend to be so highly populated that there will always be friends for you.
As for the workload, I don't find it too overwhelming. If you are involved in a lot of extra-curricular activity then obviously it will be more diffucult to keep up. Most teachers understand the difficult transition from middle school to high school and will go easy on the homework for the beginning. The workload does get more, but not by huge leaps and bounds. If you concentrate in class and keep up with homework, you should do well. Teachers don't chase you as much for assignments in high school. Its more your responsibility. So, if you are away get the missed work, if you don't understand ask the teacher until you do understand, if you STILL don't get it go in and see them for help.
Overall, high school is what you make it. If you go in with a negative attitude then you will probably have negative experience. Your first year is always the worst. High school can be a very fun and exciting step forward and I hope that I have helped prepare you for it. Congratulations and good luck!

HeartsLiesFriends answered Friday April 14 2006, 11:48 pm: It depends. If you and your really close friends go to different high schools, more than likely some will be lost. I dont mean lost, they just wont be as good as they were before. Im a freshman right now, and one of my closest friends that i once had, isnt so close. Its not that we dont get along so much, were just so distant and live two completely different lives now. People in high school are ruder than in Middle School. Dont think you're ever gonna put your word in on something without anyone giving their two-cents in. High Schoolers can be very rude and tend to cause a lot of drama, even when theres no reason for it. The work isnt so bad, but theres a lot more. You're not going to have the chance to have missing work as you do in middle school. The teachers i have now don't even want missing school work at all. You will be piled on more work, and have more projects as well. You shouldnt be scared. If you go into High School afraid and nervous, then its not going to good smooth. There are so many chances to make new friends in high school. I have met some of the greatest people so far, and its unbelieveable how much you have in common with one person. There are more chances to find people of your interest in high school. You're going to gain and lose friends, thats just how life is. Im not saying you will lose your friends, maybe not, im just saying some may not be how they once was. High School is really actually cool and not so bad. I'd just be careful of those boys, especially freshman, they're so immature and are total dorks :-] aha. I think High School is wicked awesome and im sure you will too. xoxDaneCookRox answered Friday April 14 2006, 11:43 pm: No its really not that bad. Im a freshman and the freshman year is basically the worst. Yea people change and you loose friends but you make lotss more friends too. I dont think the work is that bad. I mean its high school so it will be harder but i dont think its gonna be as bad as you think it will. I love it though cause your so much more free in high school than in middle school. Well over all its really not that ad you dont really have anyhting to worry about.
NinjaNeer answered Friday April 14 2006, 11:35 pm: Congratulations! I'm not in high school anymore, but it's only been a year since I was.
I loved going to high school! I had a great time, made lots of new friends but I lost contact with a few old friends. I found it was so much easier to meet people similar to me, and I loved that part of it. Also, there are lots of ways to get involved.
There's more work, but it doesn't get really heavy until grade 11 or 12.
I wouldn't, however, call it the best years of my life... It was a long hard road! You do a lot of self-discovery, and you're having to plan your future, so it can be a little bit scary. I PERSONALLY would say that university is shaping up to be my best years, but I guess it all depends.
