Making the most out of a small room

Question Posted Saturday April 1 2006, 10:43 pm

I'm 15/f

I have a relatively small room. How can I make it seem bigger [i.e. mirrors]? I want to make the most out of it too. Thank you

hi, try paint the walls whiite and have a focus wall and piant it like a rich pink or orange yellow aqua terquoise[sp?]brown mocha ect (browns/ neutral colours work really well.) then place a mirror on your focus wall. keep the room neat and tidy. sometimes placeing large pieces of art work or a large mirror will make the room look bigger. a futon is cool because it doubles up as seating and saves heaps iof space during the day. multipurpose furniture is great. store books ect in cute boxes and place ontop of your wardrobe. inside your wardrobe is also good for storage. basically keeps as little junk on show as possible. hope it helps

Sort everything and keep it clean. Don't leave messes on the floor because then it will seem cluttered, stuffy, and closed in. If you keep it clean it will seem more open and big. Have at least a standing mirror in your room so you can look in it and see the room from behind you, making it seem larger. Paint the walls with bright colors like Orange, Yellow, Turquoise, Hot Pink, or Lime Green. These will make the room seem fun and exciting. Also, have no brown wood, if you can. Try white wood to make it seem more fresh and open.

Well, here are some tips that will *hopefully!!* help...

*If you have a rectangular room, put your bed against one of the shorter sides of the room.
*Paint with bright colors
*Keep the clutter away...DoNt MaKe MeSsEs!! (thats probably the hardest part...for me too)
*Use mirrors...the really tall mirrors help a lot.
*Try eliminating some of the stuff from your room, such as Dressers, or stuff that you dont use anymore.

I hope i helped you out!

My room is like semi small so what I did, was got rid of my dresser and hung all my clothes up, which I have a pretty big closet so that might not work for you, but at walmart you can buy this little storage case and put like all your bras, socks and panties in there. You can also paint your room a light color, mine is light purple and white and keep your room like spotless and clutterless. And maybe you can try getting rid of stuff you don't need. Good luck <3

-paint bright colors
-the bigger your bed is the smaller it makes the room
-the cleaner your room is, the more space there is.
-get the long tall mirrors and put them on your wall, or on the back of your door etc.

i have a small room too, so i feel your pain.

Paint your room with brighter colors and don't put anything huge in your room. That will make your room look larger. I hope that I helped, and remember that my inbox is always open. You don't have to rate, but it would be nice. Thanks!

One of the best ways to lighten up is to put light colors on the walls. If you are going to put in mirrors, don't have too many and don't put them everywhere. You can place a few small mirrors next to eachother or spread across a wall for an artistic look. You can also just get 1 big mirror.
Lighting plays an important role too. Make sure there is a good source of light in your room.
Lastly, make everything simpler. Everything from furniture to bedding will make the room look better if you use simple shapes and colors. Get organized if you already aren't (haha) because mess is not inviting (ovbiously).

Ikea not only has simple, stylish products but they offer a lot of decorating info. Click on a category, (like "lighting" for example) and there is information at the top of the page. [Link](Mouse over link to see full location)

My room is also pretty small. Basically, try to keep as little furniture and clutter possible. Try getting a light paint job or do something to accent the wall opposite of your door so it seems more pushed back. Hope i helped! :)

Don't use dark or bright colours. Use light ones. Also, don't make it too cluttered. If there is less stuff that the eye sees, then it seems bigger. For storage, use containers that can fit under your bed or closet. They need to be out of the way, and that will make the room seem more spacious, and bigger. :)
