Am I depressed?

Question Posted Tuesday March 7 2006, 3:52 am

Lately i have been crying all the time. I have been feeling overwhealmed and sensitive to everything. i used to be so happy and laughing all the time and now i havn't laughed for ages and cry over everything. I read about similar symptoms in a amgazine and it said that the symptoms mean i could be depressed. Is that true and if it is what should i do? I feel so down all the time and upset. Please help

Those are all symptoms for being depressed, however, only a therapist/doctor can diagnose that, so I would suggest seeing one.

i'm no doctor or anything but from personal experience.. let it out, just cry! you don't need a reason! just cry until you can't anymore, it's stress it really is i don't think you're depressed. i've been through this same thing a couple of times i'll cry, eat some ice cream, have a happy conversation with a friend and then feel better! : / i felt so stupid for wanting to cry because "oh my gosh i dropped my cell phone" or "i can't find my biology book!" i was just so stressed and needed to cry about SOMETHING.. anything it didn't matter.
if it doesn't get better maybe you should right about your day in a notebook and if THAT doesn't work definitely talk to your parents and maybe they could help out! hope i helped and i hope you start feeling better!!

you could be depressed. it happens to a lot of people, so dont feel so out of place. talk to your mom or dad or someone about it. i suggest going to a doctor. you most likely have depression already in the family, and you may need medication. but seriously i know hwat your going thorough. i had really bad depression. i was in and out of hospitals, and i had no idea why i wanted to basically hurt myself... if you cant talk to your mom or dad, go to a councelor at school, or talk to your doctor. being on meds are wierd or stupid. it helps you a lot. if you ever need to talk to someone, just leave one in my inbox, or im me at: IAmShammay
i can help. and i want to =] dont be afraid to talk to people about this too. its so common nowadays.

it could be depression but it could also be stress. I read in a book that crying and sleeping helps relieve stress. I was going through the same thing last month but after crying and sleeping alot i feel alot better. THe only way to figure out if its depression is to of course go to the doctor. But it may be depression considering its close to the end of the school year and so much is taking place. Hope i hlped!

Firstly, you need to think about whether there is anything in your life that could be causing these sad feelings:arguments with friends, (or just general lonliness) and stress over work are both major contributors to depression. Also, remember the time of year-this dark and gloomy season pulls many people down. There is even a condition known as SAD(seasonal affective disorder) which is specifically caused by lack of natural light. Pity all those poor people in Scandanavia.......
Having said all this, please remember that nobody on this site can tell you exactly what is wrong with you:we're not doctors, nor do we know your exact circumstances. If you really feel that your problems come from nowhere, and you're puzzled and frightened, then you should see a doctor who will determine whether or not your feelings are due to some chemical imbalance. Don't be scared, just go to the doctor.
Good luck.

I had the same problem. I dont quite no how i did get rid of it but i know hanging out with my friends that dont start drama all the time. just think of some stuff that made you happy before. And most likely you probably are depressed. i know its hard and the littlest thing someone says you get upset. It will go away. its just part of being a teen. Just try not to care about the things that make you upset.

hope you feel better.

Almost all teens go through periodic bouts of depression.

If you think about it, teens go through a lot of changes really quickly. You get your period if you are a girl, lots of hormonal changes for both girls and boys. You start dating, worrying about your looks more, start driving, thinking of college....boy, the list goes on & on!

So, for the most part, it is usually nothing out of the ordinary really. If, however it lasts for months without going away, or if you should have thoughts of suicide then you really need to seek some medical attention.

Most of the time it will come and go. :)
