I'm scared to death of tampons; but I need to start using them because I play volleyball and I don't want the pad to be visible. I keep trying to put them in, but they get to a point where I can't push it in anymore and it hurts so bad I want to cry. I've used almost a whole box trying to put one in; does anyone have any tips that might help this be less painful?
Nallie answered Wednesday March 8 2006, 12:32 am: Use tampons with the smooth plastic applicator, smear some k-y jelly on the applicator if you need to. Stand up, put one foot on the toilet(knee bent) and one foot on the floor (with your legs apart) lean slightly forward. Angle the applicator toward the small of your back (your belt line). After you insert the tampon pull on the string slightly until you feel a little resistance (not too far) this will set it in place. Usually it will pinch or feel uncomfortable if not in the right position. [ Nallie's advice column | Ask Nallie A Question ]

Tashaandnicola answered Tuesday March 7 2006, 4:25 am: hi..first of all, relax coz its easier when you r relaxed. put your foot on da toilet seat if you want to. dont rush, insert the tampon at a backwards angle, like towards your bum, not verticle. makin sure that the tampon doesnt come thru the applicator. when you think you have got it far enough, push the applicator n it goes the extra little bit more in. then hopefully, if youve dun it right, it will feel comfortable and you wont b able 2 feel it. dont worry about it, it wont get lost up there so you cant insert it 2 far. when you pull it out, bend your knees a little and pull at an angle again so it slides out. hope this helps you. good luck :) [ Tashaandnicola's advice column | Ask Tashaandnicola A Question ]
jessiKAKA answered Monday March 6 2006, 11:45 pm: First of all, don't be scared. Because when you're scared your muscles tense up and it's really uncomfortable to try and stick something up there when your body is tense. Second, start off with the smallest size and PLASTIC. Plastic is key, it's easier and it slides in. Cardboard can hurt. [Oh, and by plastic I mean -- the applicator.] I hope this helps, I had the same problem with volleyball. Eventually you'll be used to it.
LoveNJstyle answered Monday March 6 2006, 10:09 pm: instead of putting it straight up in there, you kind of have to go back towards your but once its a little in. relax your muscles too.... tell yourself its perfectly normal and that if it hurts a little you just need to adjust. go in slowly until you find how you like it. make sure it goes in as far as possible or it will hurt. <3 [ LoveNJstyle's advice column | Ask LoveNJstyle A Question ]
