Why do I feel so "fat"?

Question Posted Thursday February 23 2006, 5:52 pm

Sometimes... I feel so chubby.

Well, like most young teenagers, I'm obsessed with my weight and staying healthy. Actually, it's not exactly my weight... It's just that I look kind of fat. I'm 14 years old... I stand at 5' 1" and I weigh just about 105 pounds... I never thought that I was over-weight (but am I?)... It's just I look fatter than how much I really weigh. Is that even normal? Does that even make sense?(o.O) My friends are always telling me I look fine and that I'm "skinny" but I know they're just saying that so I won't feel bad. A lot of my friends weigh more than me and are taller than me... but they look more... normal. Sometimes I just think I'm insecure... or something... Should I exercise more often? Should I try to lose just a little weight? Or am I just going crazy?

Thanks...

No, their not saying that so you dont feel bad, their telling you that because they care about you and its the truth. The average weight for someone that is 5'4 is 120 pounds, and decreases/ increases with the increase and decrease of weight so.. it goes as follows

5'4 120
5'3 115
5'2 110
5'1 105

so basically, your at average weight, and you have nothing to worry about. Everyone is self conscious about one thing or another about themselves, and the only reason it would look like your fat is because girls in general are so critical about themselves, every little tiny miniscule thing is some huge flaw, but noone else can see it except us. Fact being, if we believe something is true, we can see it, even if its not really there. Just tell yourself that your gorgeous & skinny, and you will start to believe it & wont see yourself as being chubby anymore, because sweetie, you really arent.

You aren't fat! What is going on is all mental. This is how so many eating disorders start!
Stop telling yourself that you are chubby because after a while you'll really believe it (maybe you do now). Just tell yourself that it's not important, and that your friends don't care (since they think you are fine already). You are perfectly healthy, don't be obsessed about your chubbyness. If your thoughts continue, talk to someone or get help. :)

you are absolutly positively not 100% not fat. When I was little I too suffered from what some people call 'shortie syndrom' where you look bigger because you shorter then average. If your only 14 you shouldn't be worried about your weight my god your only 14. When I was younger I was about 115 pounds and I thought I was the fattest thing on the planet. I think that (and i'm trying not to get all shrinky on you) but the media is to blame and i know you have probably heard this a billion times but love yourself for you and not what people say of you.

Oh, I'm exactly the same way. I'm 5'0 and 112 pounds. It's because we're short. It's like everything's squished together, and if we were stretched out, we'd be bean poles. Exercise is always good. They say that 30 minutes a day for a growing teen is absolutely necsissary. Exercising isn't just for losing weight, but it's to help keep you in shape and you'll feel better about yourself. I hope I helped :)

first off, noo you definately aren't fat. i mean you're only 5'1 & you're still only 105 lbs. that's actually good. everyone picks the bad things out about themselves. you can exercise if you want, it won't hurt you, but you're definately not overweight. i'm guessing you're a girl, soo most girls do that most of the time. a lot of girls that eat my lunch period eat nothinggg because they think they're fat when that's not the case.

-hope that helped!♥

The way you see yourself is different than you see other people. Even when you look in a mirror, you're looking from a different perspective. I have a suggestion for you! I saw Paula Abdul on TV talking about anorexia once. I realize you're not anorexic, but I think that this will help you. Anyways, Paula was anorexic and one of the things she did to get over it was have someone trace her onto a sheet of paper. She then got to see how small she really was from the same perspective as she looked at other people. I really think that this is something that you should do. It will help you a lot!Sidewalk chalk will work too :)

What the hell?! You're not fat, you're skinny. I'd kill to be your size. I weigh 145, trust me, it's not so good. They're not telling you that so you won't "feel bad." They're telling you that because it's TRUE. You are insecure, trust me, you're NOT fat, AT ALL. If you really wanna stay in shape, and gain confidence; EXERCISE and EAT HEALTHY. Very simple.

I definatly don't think your crazy to start things off! ha And for your height and everything, it sounds normal ( i'm no doctor ha ) not SUPER skinny, bit its aite. If you feel chubby maybe its because of flabby arms? gross stomach? big thighs? idk what the case is. Maybe if you got a beginners pilates or yoga dvd, you could tone up. Sooner or later your gunna exercise because as you get older, you gain weight <-- plus its heathly to exercise. Maybe if you started walking at your schools track? or around the block? or wherever. Maybe if you joined a sports team. i'd say stay away from eating a ton of donuts, cake, and cookies. Don't really worry to much, unless you start to gain weight. Just tone up is what i'm thinking.

sorry thats all i have

just EAT breakfast, don't skip meals, drink water, and not a ton of sweets. but don't say oh no i can't eat anything! just watch, don'g limit. Eat lots of fruits and veggies (duhh ) and try whole grain bread, chicken, eggs, turkey, sugar-free jello/pudding. theres plently.

just watch

later
