tanning

Question Posted Saturday February 18 2006, 10:33 pm

i go to a tanning salon before dances, and i've been going every other day for about 3 weeks. i've been using the same lotion for about 3 weeks also. i went tanning yesterday, and today i woke up with these little bumps all over my thighs and stomach. they aren't red, but they are itchy and you can feel them if you run your hand over my skin. i'm not sure what they are - is it sunpoisioning from tanning too often? or maybe im allergic to the lotion? but i used it all over my body and there are only bumps on my thighs and stomach. what could this be?

Could be herpes. I heard you can catch it from sharing tanning beds.

its prickly-heat. babies get it often in the summer- because they have such sensitive skin. clean it with the same cleanser youd use on your face, and try not to wear very form-fitting clothes for a few days. and DONT scratch it! use calamine lotion on it if it gets annoying enough where you cant keep your hands off it. but it should go away soon. hope i helped. spitfire9631@yahoo.com

It may be sunpoisioning but theres only one way to tell go to the doctor if they dont clear up in about 2 days then id go or if the itch gets worse. Also your tanning to much and this could cause serious problems, not to scare you or anything but my friend went about the same amount you do and she had passing out spells and almost died in a car accident from passing out and it was all from tanning to much. Id chill with the tanning go maybe like once a week or twice not every other day thats way to harmful. Hope i helped

Wow, you are tanning way too much! Aren't you afraid that you're going to get skin cancer? You can keep a good tan from only going once a week or even less. Please don't tan so often. It's not necessary and look what it's doing to your body! It definitely sounds like "sun" poisoning to me. That's not good at all. Put lots of lotion on the bumps and don't go back tanning again right after they go away. I don't think you should tan for awhile. What you're doing is really bad for your body. It's one thing to get a little color and look nice, but it's quite another to go every other day. Again, that's way too much. Try to be a little more careful and good luck.

i would say its sun poisoning or your skin is too dry. upi arent tanning to much though. like ive gone as much as you and ive been just fine. your prob not allergic to the lotion because it would have given you a reaction within the first few times of using it. make sure after you tan you moisturize and maybe take a few days off. like only go mon. wed. fri. or something like that so you have time for your body to regenerate itself for w/e

An allergist once told me: You can suddenly develop an allergy to something you have used for years, just as you can suddenly not become allergic to something. Allergies are weird that way!

My guess is, you are either allergic to the lotion or something that they used to clean the tanning bed. Maybe the cleaning solution residue was just more concentrated in the areas that had contact with your thighs and stomach.

Hopefully the bed is cleaned between uses or you could have a type of infection from the last person that used it.

To start with, since the areas are itching, take an oatmeal bath (aveeno) and use hydrocortisone 1% cream. If you don't notice improvment in 2-3 days or your symptoms get worse you should see your Dr.

From now on when you go tanning, wipe the glass off well with plain water, and dry it before laying down.

You tanned to much. Keep a type of cream on it, and stay away from tanning for awhile.

♥ Its deffinatly sun poisoning. Try staying out of the tanning beds for a little while. Like a week. Put lotion on it so the itching can go down. Its not too serious but i wouldnt expose yourself to the tanning beds for a little while.
