Passing out

Question Posted Tuesday January 24 2006, 2:26 pm

Lately I have been under a lot of stress from finals and other things. In the past two weeks I have passed out 4 times. How much blood do you ussually have to lose before passing out and what could be other causes of this? I'm 14 and relatively healthy.

[ Answer this question ]

Additional info, added Wednesday January 25 2006, 3:33 pm:
Shall we say there are certain complications that make it so that I would rather not go to a doctor. I also am pretty sure the passing out has to do with losing blood.

I just lost blood from some minor uhmm injuries. Just like a few scratches.

well since most of your question has been answered ill take care of the last part. if your body isnt used to it, and you let your mind wander, you can pass out after loosing a pint of blood. i give blood pretty often, they take a pint, the first time i gave i passed out. since then i havent passed out after giving.

passing out doesnt nessesarily have to do with you passing out. my sister used to pass out all the time because she just recently found out she has a somewhat common heart condition that makes her dehydrated and passes out. you should def see a doctor.. my sister was perfectly healthy before this.. she was a normal athletic 12 year old

really the best thing to do is see a doctor. its preobably really important that you do, because passing out that much isnt normal. it might be nothing, but its best not to take a chance. hope you get better soon!

Passing out four times in the last week sounds very serious. I'm not sure why you asked about blood loss though. Have you been losing a lot of blood lately for any reason? Regardless though, it would probably be wise to see a doctor about this because there could be something seriously wrong with your health. You might be diabetic, hypoglycemic, have epilepsy, or a number of other medical conditions. I'm not trying to scare you or anything, but passing out is not something you should take lightly, especially when it has happened that many times. With stress though, it could also just be from exhaustion. Have you been getting a lot of sleep lately? Staying up late to study might sound like the best thing in order to be prepared for your finals, but actually, being well rested is more important so you can think more clearly. Hope I helped. I wish you the best of luck with your finals.

Stress is the cause of many health problems,it dosn't matter if you are healthy it can stil affect you pretty badly.Stress cause the muscles to get extremely tense.Your body also starts releasing a chemical that alters your cell functions, making you more worried, frustrated and starts making disbalances such as your blood sugar and pressure.Dosn't mean you lose blood,it means your amount of sugar can decrease or increase in a unhealthy way causing you to pass out. Also the blood pressure can be a cause,as I said before ytour muscles get really tense and that includes the heart muscle, making your heart and body get overworked and causing you a blackout. That blackout is your body screaming for rest, all your functions shut down.

You need to rest. Also maintain your healthy eating just incase. Most importantly try to relax.Work out a schedule so you could feel more organized and secure.Take time to study and do your best.Confidence will be a great pain reliver.
Hope it helps

hey i passed out quite a bit around my exams. Make sure you're eating enough, stress can make you skip meals and that really isn't good for you. If you don't eat enough, your blood sugar levels will drop and this can cause lightheadedness and fainting. Make sure you're not dehydrated as well, you should be drinking at least a litre of water a day. To be honest I never manage that but make sure to drink SOME!
If you're studying hard and that's causing your stress then make sure you take breaks.
Don't put too much strain or pressure on yourself, make sure you just take some time out and chill, go see your friends or whatever.
I'd still go to your doctor about it, he can check for any underlying conditions that could be causing this. When I used to collapse it was a combination of things - including low blood pressure so when I stood up too fast the blood drained from my head. Make sure you haven't got anything wrong with you!
Hope I helped!

There are a number of reasons that can make someone pass out. The best thing to do is to see a doctor about this.
And if you're stressed, try to be calm ;) Just relax about those finals. If you can't pass them there's always next year. The calmer you are, the better your chance of passing them is. You might want to try drinking herbal tea, if you're into that kind of things.
