I am overweight (13 yrs old, 5ft 4in, and 140 lbs) so I use a bathroom scale to check my weight 2 times a day, in the morning and in the evening. Why is my weight different at those 2 times of the day? How do I know which one is telling the truth? Are any of the scales telling the truth? Because one time I went to the doctor and I weighed more on that scale than on the one I own at home. Why are these weights all different? How much do I really weigh? Help me please! What should I do?
NextMiaHamm answered Saturday January 14 2006, 8:50 pm: first off, i do not think that you are overweight. everyone is different sizes. the doctors office scales always make you weigh more so don't worry about that. and when you weigh in the morning, you are lighter because you haven't eaten anything in a little while because you have been asleep. and your weight in the evening is heavier because you have eaten during the day. if you are trying to loose weight, just try cutting down on one particular area of food. i cut out sodas for a couple of months during soccer season and lost ten pounds. or you can not eat candy or much sugar. that might work. but the last thing i am going to leave you with is that you shouldn't worry much about your weight. you are beautiful just the way that you were made and don't forget that! hope i helped you! <3 <3 <3 [ NextMiaHamm's advice column | Ask NextMiaHamm A Question ]
MikeCFT answered Friday January 13 2006, 8:17 pm: You are lighter when you wake up because your body has eaten up all excess food energy in your stomach and now since you didn't eat all night, it wants energy. You "break" the "fast" of the night. If you do not eat breakfast when your body is craving nutrients, you will hold water under your skin and slightly gain weight. The myth about holding water by drinking too much of it is so stupid I don't even know why anyone would believe it. Just remember- the more you give your body what it needs, the less your body will hold (such as water and fat) never ever skip breakfast and eat often to avoid radical weight gain and of course..stay hydrated. Dont worry so much about how much you weigh all the time because the scale is tricky but a mirror never lies. [ MikeCFT's advice column | Ask MikeCFT A Question ]
xopinkbarbie answered Friday January 13 2006, 3:47 pm: I've always heard that your correct weight is in the morning times. You weigh different in the evening because you've eaten things that day, etc. But, when you wake up in the morning.. all your food has been digested and you basically have an empty stomach. Doctors scales are more accurate because they are more expensive & so forth. [ xopinkbarbie's advice column | Ask xopinkbarbie A Question ]
purpledragonfly answered Friday January 13 2006, 2:46 am: first off don't weigh in soo much!! this just makes you anxious and paranoid. try just weighing in once or twice a week. All scales are adjusted differently. how often do you use the doctor's scale? if it's not more than once a month or at a regular check up i would stick to using the weight on your bathroom scale. Igotamonopoly answered Thursday January 12 2006, 8:17 pm: How much you weigh depends on gravity. Your mass, which is what those scales should measure, can fluctuate based on your food and water intake. Before breakfast, you are likely to weigh less that you would after dinner. IAmShammay answered Thursday January 12 2006, 7:25 pm: your wieght changes at different times during the day, because of the graviational pull of the moon to earth. thats what my teacher said a few weeks ago. [ IAmShammay's advice column | Ask IAmShammay A Question ]
HCOxBABE answered Thursday January 12 2006, 7:02 pm: It's different two times in the day because in the morning [ if you didn't eat anything yet ], it'll show you your actual weight. In the evening, the scale will say you weigh more because you had lunch & dinner. You're not suppose to weigh yourself twice a day, just once in the morning every few days or once a week. Make sure when you weigh yourself, you're just wearing your pajamas, nothing like jeans & shoes. The doctor's scale is most accurate but if there's a big weight range between your scale & the doctor's scale, than your scale's most likely broken. Sherry answered Thursday January 12 2006, 5:35 pm: I was on a diet for a while... so I know how to tell which time is telling the truth. In the morning! You have to make sure you went to the bathroom, your naked/or just have your bra/underwear on, and that you havent ate anything yet (dont even brush your teeth) and then weigh yourself. That is your current weight, what it is in the morning. Because throughout the day your body makes changes so if you weigh yourself again later on in the day, its totally different. So I suggest only weighing yourself in the morning.
p.s.
140 is not really overweight, though it is over the "normal" weight for 5'4...your not overweight enough to consider a diet. =) [ Sherry's advice column | Ask Sherry A Question ]
karenR answered Thursday January 12 2006, 5:20 pm: You are going to drive yourself nuts weighing twice a day! Stop that :)
Actually, your body retains water and that will make you weigh more one time and less the next.
You need to pick one morning a week. Weight yourself one that day, once a week, same time of day if possible. Always weigh yourself the same way...as in with or without clothes on, shoe on or off etc.
The bathroom is the worse place to keep your scales (I know everyone does it there) because they absorb moisture. That is what I was told anyway.
Dr office scales are usually pretty accurate. They get you down to the last ounce!
If you weight just once a week, you will get a more accurate idea of how much you lose or gain.
