I, like you, want to persue a career in theater, and i, like you, am a HORRIBLE singer. But okay, theres a difference between musical theater and theater.

My advice, go for it, you probably have amazing talent and not every job in the theater industry has to do with singing.

Good Luck,

kooka

well first i think its great that you have this dream to act, and you are obviously willing to go right out there and try and achieve that. before you get down on yourself i think you should first look at the positive side. its true that we all might have dreams that for one reason or another might be unattainable, but i wouldnt give up on your dream to act or be in musicals just yet. if your singing skills are not what you would like them to be, you might try getting some lessons. if you check your local paper a lot of times there are college students in music programs who are looking to help people with music lessons. you might want to give that a shot and see if your singing improves. and also, you dont have to sing to be a successful actor. if it turns out that you arent a great singer, you can still put your acting skills to good use, and from what your friend says it seems like those arent a problem for you at all. good luck, and dont stop dreaming!

i am an awful singer as well...but i have been acting for 6 years and believe me you don't need to know how to sing. obviously if you want to star in musicals having a good voice is necessary, but there are also plays. in my school we have one act plays every year - no singing, only acting, and i won the award for best actress out of 75 kids. so yes, you can be an actress/actor even if you can't sing...just do dramas, not musicals! good luck!

you should try out some vocal lessons and see what the teacher says. ask them if they think you have potential and if they think you will be a better singer by taking classes. i took classes for half a school year once and i saw an improvement.

It is important to get lessons in both acting and singing if you are serious about a career in the field. If you think you suck, get a voice teacher, and if you're already good at acting, stick to trying out for the plays instead of the musicals. Also, you sound like you might be into broadway. Dance experience is good to acquire as well.

Edit: and just some realistic advice, you said you don't have any experience with acting, and yet you want a career in acting?... It seems to me that you like it for the superficial reasons...how do you even know you want to do that for a living if you haven't even actually taken any initiative to pursue it? You think people are just going to drop in one day and say, hey, you have no experience but you should be in our play!!! ... no. Don't take interest in it just because you want to be famous. I could be reading this the completely wrong way but I've been working my ass off in theatre during high school and so it seems weird that someone who has no acting experience would know enough about it to dedicate their life/career/whatever to it.

Your feedback: ok you just ruined my whole life dream i think i'll be a accountant like everyone else in my family! thanks, just think, you ruined someones life today! by the way, thanks for being a smartass about it too! ;]

My response: Pretty sure it was your choice to let whatever I said get to you and that I was just telling you the facts rather than what you wanted to hear. Look up the definition of smart ass- I wasn't being one. I wasn't being cruel, just honest. This is me being a cruel, smart ass: the truth?! YOU CAN'T HANDLE THE TRUTH.

Bottom line: Maybe you should question your motives again if you were so easily swayed.
haha. Cry me a freakin' river.

some people find bad singing funny. i mean you see it in comedy shows all the time.. you can always persue your career in acting. if you want to be famous i would recommend singing lessons just because it adds something that people look for. i mean if you were looking for an actor for your show wouldnt singing just be a plus? and singing also builds confindence and will help you acting skills and voice quality.
