grades

Question Posted Tuesday December 13 2005, 2:50 pm

i have horrible grades. and i dont know how. i try hard. but i have to miss a lot of school. our school has a rule about after 11 absents' you may loose class credits. im a sophmore. i try hard and im very smart. i have easy classes. but i think the bad grades are because of the missing school. you know. which most of the time wasnt my fault. i was in a really bad wreck. my car rolled 6 times. and i broke a rib and slightly punctured a lung. adn broke my collar bone. and had 311 stitches in my left arm, and 83 staples in my head. so obviously a bad wreck. my doctor ordered me to stay out of school for a week or two. so i did for a week in a half. and that was 7 school days. then i got really sick. adn missed like 3 days and then sick again and missed a couple more days. my princepal has told me i need to go to school. but i was sick and couldnt even hardly get out of bed. what would you do to get your grades up if you missed a lot of school
ill rate high

Allright sweety, your school is COMPLETELY UNFAIR! They cant blame you for missing school because your seriously injured! My God, thats so unfair! they should give you your work to do at home. this is a matter worth sueing. have one of your parents call the school and tell the principal that you are very injured and you need your school work to do at home. good luck!

I'd suggest talking to your teachers. Ask about extra help, make-up work, extra credit. Some teachers offer extra credit for community service work. Christmas is coming, volunteer in a shelter. There are plenty of ways to raise your grades. Now that you're doing better and are able to get to class, try studying a week or so before your tests, no last minute ordeals. Make sure you get in all of your homework and classwork, busywork points add up in the end. I suppose that's all you can do for now, you just have to work hard.

omgg im so sorry to hear about the accident ! get betterr !!

you should talk to your teachers or princepal and tell them everythign that has ahppened ( its not your fault anyway ) and maybe you could get your work emailed to you or go in once a week and get all the work then go back the next week and so on and so forth. there has to be a guidance counselor you can talk to or someone, otherwise this could happen to anyone and the school wouldnt know what to do . feel betterr hun !

xoo hope this helps !! ♥

It really depends on your specific school but usually the rule of thumb is if it is an excused absence, it does not go towards your LC count. You should get a note from your doctor(s) to excuse you from those days. Otherwise it is your responsibility to catch up with the work and, yes, it is hard.

My advice is to talk to each of your teachers individually. Stay behind after class for a couple minutes to either talk to them about how you can make everything up or with any extra questions.

Although you do make an effort outside of class, show them you make an effort IN class. Your teachers will realize your extra perseverance to try and catch up with the rest of the class and they will take the days you missed into consideration when sending in your grades.

Student-Teacher relationships are very important and by maintaining that it has helped me a lot in the past. Voice the fact that you can strive for better grades. ;)

Hey, I'm really sorry to hear about your accident.

None of this seems the slightest bit fair especially because of your traumatizing car accident. The truth is though if you miss a lot of class, you're going to be behind. I understand you were sick as well. These are all things you can't help.

However, unless you get EXTREMELY sick again to the point where you are throwing up or can't get out of bed, make an effort to go to school. I can't stand missing school because making up work is always a nightmare. Because when I finally get back to school, I have to do that days homework, all the homework I missed, and try and jumble studying for tests or quizzes I missed while I was out. It's a nightmare--and teachers don't always give you or tell you clearly what you missed. Then, they accuse you for not having your work.

I'm not exactly a perfectionest but I try and strive for high grades. I'm not the kind of person that lets a bad grade or two roll of my back. It usually bothers me, so I know how you feel. Best idea, as annoying as it may sound, is to go into the classes you are doing poorly in at lunch, and get extra help if possible. Or sit a friend down that does well academically and have them explain to you what you don't understand.

Make it a note to study for tests you don't think you're going to do well on. Study at your desk earlier on in the day so that you don't get weary and give way to sleep!

If teachers are giving you a hard time about the work you missed, see the principle or a guidance counseler and explain to them your troubles. If they still don't understand, have your parents call in and tell the principle or guidance counseler why you couldn't do the work. It's not fair that you should be expected to be in school on days when you absolutely are in no condition to attend.

Good Luck, I really hope all goes well for you. If you need more help, inbox me! :)

well by law the school cant make you loose a credit if a doctor ordered you to stay home or whatever. i would recomend getting a tutor or staying after school/before with some of your teachers to catch up. if your mom calls the principal im sure they would understand

Well, you can't help what has already happened in the padt. What's done is done. Usually, concerning loss of credits due to absences you can do something called Credit Restoration and stil lget your credit. Because you missed school for a valid reason, you and your family could also appeal to the district. So look into that. Also, you should go in for tutoring with your teachers, stay after school, go before school, etc. Get outside help. Study hard. Try your best, in the long run things will get better. :)
