I've just been wondering, how do you know if you're going to be left-handed or right handed when you're born? Is it that you just tend to use your left hand/right hand more than the other than you become left handed or right handed? Or does it have to do with muscles? And what about those people who are ambixterous?
buzzie answered Tuesday December 6 2005, 6:05 pm: I am left handed and the only one in my whole family who isnt right handed.
I don't think there is any way to know if you will be born left handed or not.
But I can give you some interesting facts about lefties.
For an example, only 7 percent of the population is left handed.
Did you also know that left handed people are more likely to be in an accident or die young than right handed people? This is because we have to adapt to living in a right handed world.
I think it's cool to be left handed!!
Hope this has helped you! [ buzzie's advice column | Ask buzzie A Question ]
naimee answered Tuesday December 6 2005, 5:43 pm: It's which side of your brain is the strongest. See, if your left side of the brain is stronger then your right, then you write with your right hand. & When your right side of the brain is stronger then the left that's when you write with your left hand. (: So basically.
sizzlinmandolin answered Tuesday December 6 2005, 4:49 pm: I believe that it has to do with what the kid observes. Kids that age like to imiate what older people do. If they see their dad writing with is left hand they think that that is how you're supposed to do it and they train their left hand to be their dominant hand. I remember when I was younger I would always color with my left hand and write with my right hand. This is because my dad (left handed) taught me how to color, and my mom (right handed) taught me how to write. Now, I can't use my left hand for anything. I was trained, and trained myself to be right handed. As for kids that have both parents being right handed and they turn out left handed I'd say that it's because they just pay less attention to detail. I hope this makes sense to you and I hope I helped you! :) [ sizzlinmandolin's advice column | Ask sizzlinmandolin A Question ]

Kr4z3y_Ch3lly answered Tuesday December 6 2005, 4:38 pm: its your parents choice really. or just the childs. if the kid feels more comfurtable holding it in the left then theyll write with the left same as right. or if the parent want them writting with a certain hand they can keep changing the hand the kid writes with so that he/she will write with the hand they want him to. ambidextrous is if the kid was writing with both hands at the same time while he was learning to write and just came accustom to both or when he/she was older decided to learn to write with both hands they practiced and practiced till they were good. so really its just what the child feels most comfurtable doing as a child.
heres an example. when i was younger id always try to use my left hand to write but my dad didnt want me to be a lefty so he made me use my right. (who knows why he didnt but whatever lol)and now my sister is 4 and when she started writing she tryed using her left hand but my dad made her use her write. so really i think its just whats comfurtable for the kid. sorry this is kinda long hah.
