My love, I am an amputee who lost her left leg following a really nasty motorbike accident. It took very many years for me to come to terms with losing my leg. It is not something that can be gone into quickly. I did not lose my leg immediately after the accident, but 13 years of walking with a grossly disfigured leg left me with a legacy of pain. I spent 3 years talking to amputees from my local limb centre and asking the very many questions that go through your mind. If you live in England then you may know about Heather Mills. If not, she is Paul McCartneys wife and she also lost her leg through a motorbike accident. She is a very good campaigner for the limbless. If you are going through a compensation process and it is definite that you will have to lose your leg then please make sure that the compensation covers you for new limbs for the rest of your life. They are not cheap and the good ones cost from about £7,000 upwards.

It is very possible to live a normal life being able to do everything you could before your accidents.

It is something that does take a while to get used to, but like everything, it does become a part of your life like putting on make up. The prosthetists are professionals and they take pride in their work.

I am very willing to help you if I can with coming to terms with amputation. I was 19 when I had my accident and 32 when I had it amputated. In those intervening years my life was hell and I regret not having it done earlier.

I wish you all the very best and good luck. Have courage and lean on your family and friends. Please let me know how you are getting on.

I should add that in England prosthesis' are free on the NHS and specially made ones are charged for privately. They are very lifelike and worth having at least one of.

Well, this isn't really our choice to make. It's your leg, but I'll give you what I would do. Honestly, I would probably just get the leg amputated and have a fake one, one of those electronic ones, put on. If it realy is impairing you, and is dead weight...there's no use for it honey... The fake leg would be able to be moved and used. You could walk normal again and even run.

Good luck sweetie

Personally, I would keep my leg there even if it was dead. I mean what's the difference if you get it amputated or not if you can't use it. I would keep it there just for the fact of having both legs.

oh my god i am so sorry to hear that! if i were you i would go ahead and get it amputated so that maybe you can get those cool HOTT looking plastic legs and learn to walk and swim and stuff like that. BUt honestly that is your decision and no one can make it for you because it will be with you your whole life. Think it over and if the doctor says it is best do it. Dont worry its not a big deal every one knows your an amazing person and it wont make you any different. Love ya tons hope it all works out

That's an extremely hard place to be put in. If the leg is simply going to 'rot' or 'wilt' away and look strange, I would definitely have it amputated. I know that has to be difficult. If it pains you in any way... have it amputated. See, if you get it amputated, you can get a prosthetic and perhaps learn to walk again?

I'm sorry you're in such a place. Talk to your parents and doctors, perhaps consult a guidence counselor or a pastor, as well as your friends.
God bless,

Unless I had gangrene and I absolutely had to get something amputated then I don't think I would. Yeah, you can't use your leg but at least you have one, ya know? But if it causes a lot of pain then you should probably go ahead and do it.

Oh wow. I'm very sorry to hear that. But, the only person who can make the decision is you. Whenever I can't make a decision, I make a list of the pros and cons of each option. So what would be some pros if you got your leg amputated? And what would be some cons? Try this. I hope I helped.

Hi There,

With regards to your medical problem that decision is entirely up to you we can only offer you advice so whatever you feel and the doctor feels is in your best interest you should take that direction. I mean if it's gonna have a positive effect then do it I understand and empathise how you are feeling its probably one of the biggest decision you will have to make in your life but you might want to speak to a counsellor as well to help you get through this. I wish you a speedy recovery and all the best

God bless
