Question Posted Thursday November 10 2005, 7:46 pm
What song can I sing to audition for my schools musical? I do not have a very good voice, so I am only looking to be in the chorus (I have been in it the past, so yes, it is possible to be in the chorus even if you don't have an amazing voice). I am a 16 year old female, who cannot sing very high at all. I would like something that is easy & will sound good on my voice. I would like something from a Broadway show, or Disney. (preferably A MUSICAL PLAY). THANK YOU!

sizzlinmandolin answered Friday November 11 2005, 12:50 pm: "On My Own" from Les Miserables. It's a really great song and it stays low. "Last Midnight" from Into the Woods, "Think of Me" from Phantom of the Opera, "Wishing You Were Somehow Here Again" from Phantom of the Opera, "Maybe" from Annie, "Tomorrow" from Annie, "In My Own Little Corner" from Cinderella, "Ten Minutes Ago" from Cinderella", "I Could Have Danced All Night" from My Fair Lady, and "I Dreamed A Dream" from Les Miserables would also be good choices. Good luck! [ sizzlinmandolin's advice column | Ask sizzlinmandolin A Question ]
MrsStevenMarkJones answered Friday November 11 2005, 11:11 am: the song from Guys and Dolls is a good one.
when you see a guy reach for stars in teh sky you can bet that he's doing it for some doll!
its a good song that it not too high at all. I sang it at my audition. or even some where over hte rainbow. it is not too high of a song, but it does have some high parts. Obviously you are an alto if you are saying you can not reach very high notes. so thinking of low range songs is kind of hard seeing as i am a soprano 1. lol. i know a ton of musicals and (sad to say) disney movies. if you want to drop me one in my inbox with a bit more detail i am sure i can fidn a better song! lol [ MrsStevenMarkJones's advice column | Ask MrsStevenMarkJones A Question ]
ChOcOLoLo answered Friday November 11 2005, 12:39 am: Hey there, two cool songs you could sing which are both from Broadway are:
1) Someone Like You-Jekell and Hyde
2) Once upon a Dream also from Jekell and Hyde.
Just make sure that when you sing, you use much strength, and this strength comes from inhaling air into your stomach and singing through your diaphram. Also, don't think that you can't get the high notes because I've learned that it's "all in your head." hehe Just keep on sticking to it and practicing, and I'm certain, everything will come out beautifully. Take care, and I wish you the best of luck.

Hey! By inhaling air for your stomach and singing through your diaphram means to take a deep breath, and using that air to sing through your chest, which gives a lot of strength to your voice. To make sure that you sing through your chest, you need to OPEN YOUR MOUTH and sing. Don't sing with your mouth opened only a tad bit, because the sound that comes out will be nasly--it sounds like you're singing from your noise. And hey, when you open your mouth and get a lot of strength from your chest voice, you are more able to top those high notes! Take care, and I wish you the best of luck!
