too skinny.

Question Posted Tuesday November 8 2005, 9:31 pm

I'm 17 years old and I weigh under 100 pounds. I don't have an eating disorder or anything like that. In fact I eat a lot, and I'm pretty healthy. I don't like feeling so skinny though and I want to know if anyone has the same problem and if you have any suggestions for me to gain some weight? I've always been so small and weighed so little and seriously, if I got to even just 100 pounds I would be so happy. Smallness is kind of genetic in my family but I want to gain! Help please.

YEahh i have that problem. I'm 13 and weigh 90 pounds. A lot of people used to think i was anorexic, but i wasn't nor am i now. I don't like being too skinny either it actually makes me selfconcious and i dont wear skirts even though i want to. I usd to try and gain weight by eating fattening foods and sitting on my cmputer chair all day infront of the computer. But that didn't help much. But, eating actually healthy and getting a food guide making sure you eat the right amount of that category helped me gain weight faster. Hope that helped

Alot of girls want to be that small and as a small person i would never want to gain weigt because all you would do is get fat You should like the fact that you are small and don't have to try hard to stay skinny i mean i only weigh like 85 lbs so you should not want to gain weight as long as you don't have an eating disorder your fine and gaining weight could be dangrous to your health

i'm 14 and appx. 95 pounds. i get to a certain weight level and then i just stop gaining weight. i don't have a disorder either. i heard that peanut butter helps you gain weight. it's pretty gross to eat it without bread or something but i think i gained about three pounds off that thanks to other advicenators. if you just want to get to 100lbs then try working out cuz muscle weighs more than fat which you probably already know at age 17. also eat potatoes and pizza. and drink whole milk. i hope it helps i'm still trying to gain weight so let me know.

The best way to gain weight is if you lift weights when you get muscles it makes you look heavy but in a healthy way.

Talk to your doctor or a dietician about it. It may not be healthy for you to try to gain weight, but if it is than your doctor or dietician will be able to give you a better diet and better suggestions than anyone on here. Just eat more, or eat less healthy foods aren't good choices. You have to eat the right types of foods in the right amounts. I know a girl that has had problems with this and her doctor helped her out a lot. Good luck!

Gaining weight and keeping it on can be as tricky as losing it and keeping it off. Rather than having the occasional extra snack, you need to regularly take in more calories than you burn. Combining this with toning exercises helps, too.

Set yourself realistic target weights and aim to gain gradually - say, around 2lb a week. To do that you'll need to add an extra 300 to 350 calories or so to your daily intake. It's best to do this in a healthy way as part of a balanced diet, rather than simply eating more fried foods or chocolate!

- Keep a food diary for a couple of weeks to learn more about your eating habits.
Rather than struggling to eat a few really big meals, plan three regular meals plus two or three snacks.
- If you tend to eat erratically, write down a regular meal plan and keep to it.
- Make meals a little larger or more calorific. For example, have an extra slice of toast at breakfast; drink grape juice rather than orange juice; make coffee with milk; serve an extra spoon of mash, rice or pasta; be more generous with healthier unsaturated oils, salad dressing and spreads; always have a dessert.
- Have snacks to hand so you never go short. Good choices include nuts, seeds and raisins; pots of rice pudding, cereal or cereal bars; pancakes; milk, yogurt drinks or smoothies;cheese and crackers; fruit plus small chocolate bar.

Try this out for a couple of weeks and see what happens. If you don't gain ANY weight, you need to see a doctor.

Heyy! Well I'm 15, 5'0 and I'm 98 lbs...hahah and NO I do not have an eating problem. Just like you, I eat ALOT..but most of it goes...welll..I don't know whereee...I used to REALLY want to gain weight..b/c people asked me if I was anorexic..but I've learned that it's a good thing..Your metabolism is fast...and that's good! If it's genetic..well, I'm positive you can't change your genes..;) haha but appriciate your weight! When you get older, your metabolism will slow down..so enjoy it now! Eat healthy..don't eat junk food so you'll gain weight..(that's unhealthy!) But If you really want to gain some weight, visit a doctor...he will give you his personal opinion...if he thinks that you should gain weight, he'll give you some special medication..OR just do what the "non-serious advice-givers" will tell you..eat eat eat, then lie down on the couch. (I'm pretty sure that will do it!)....no but really...don't do it..I was kidding..If I were you, I would be happy :) But since you're not, eat fruits and veggies and RICE..and I recommend going to a doctor because if this is genetic, It's unlikely you can do anything. Hope I helped! XO

How tall are you? If you're between 4'9 and 5'1, this is probably a healthy weight for you and you shouldn't worry about changing it. Have you spoken to a doctor about this issue?

The main thing you want to worry about is staying healthy. Eating junk food will make you unhealthy, and it might not even make you gain weight either. Try to accept your size. If it's genetic, it's probably not healthy to change it anyway.

This may sound weird as well, but it may help if you exercise. You can gain a little bit of muscle weight. It won't help a lot, but you may feel more secure with yourself!
